Silly me, always cite your sources. Code is based on this excellent answer: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/9620278/how-do-i-make-calls-to-a-rest-api-using-c As for the scores going down, it's been shown in the thread that the mission results aren't being included in the "earned crystals" number. They made this change after they started accumulating stats around one of the recent Halloweens, and generally around the time they introduced the rating system. Every time you play now, it does not show you earning as much as before because your claimed missions no longer show in the total. This means that those who play slowly go down, and those who do not remain where they are (with nearly all of their career stats showing the previous, "easier" crystal earning rate). The formula can be improved significantly by introducing an attenuation factor. Your most recent results should be the ones incorporated into your rating, and stuff from the past shouldn't mean as much. In tennis, your rating is based upon what you've done over the last ~365 days. This can be extended slightly to say that the last 90 days mean more, less so for the quarter before, etc., through the desired time period. This will put only active players at the top, and the best in recent times will secure the best positions. They also need to remove the crystals earned by ranking up, since this award will dwarf the average non-pro battle.

Oh, do you mean something like this? C# code for how to get this data:
  3. It is possible to hit Legend without buying. It's possible to get M4s without buying, so the rest is simply playing out the string. I am a Major General who in a few days will have M4 Thunder without paying a penny [got Bulldozer the last time it was offered around Colonel, before M3s all moved up to Marshal]. This puts me on a collision course with Legend; the only variable is time... I suppose I need an M3 hull at some point, maybe... I'm still scoring a "top" on winning sides in Wasp M1 now and then, for crying out loud. Yet, my Mammoth M2 is outclassed. Without buying, I recommend concentrating on a couple of combinations which can cover all the game types. Do daily missions and milk it. If you must play more than missions, play pro battles without supplies.

I just realized that I am scoring 10,000 experience a month. It will take me 62 more months to get to Legend... but I'll have an M4 in a few days at Major General, without buying. Some things just don't make sense...

    Is my garage good?

Chase strength with strength. Free-to-play users can't have breadth. You need depth. Pick your best hull and stick to it. You appear to have Viking and a tin can, so that settles it. If you're best with Striker, ride that wave and upgrade it first. Viking upgrades at 10/20 will be far more expensive per pound of punch than the Striker upgrades at 2/20. Go Striker to 10 (use the sale if you can in September) and see where you are from there. I'm way over my head with an M2 Mammoth, but I have been able to hold on decently as free-to-play against M4 druggers because I have 19/20 Thunder against them. "Yes, enemy Isida, heal your friend. Get really close..." If you want to spend some crystals on breadth of gameplay, then save for it and do it on a sale. However, you will need something as your bread-and-butter combo. You kind of said it yourself; your Railgun is for play, and your Striker is what brings home your Tanki salary. Striker is your day job, so embrace the identity. You buy toys, but you invest in your career.

    Weekend Giveaway Winners Announced!

Only 379 players made the top tier on EN. We're only 20% of Tanki's fervent community.... I didn't bother to try, and settled for the second tier.

You're hinting that it's not terribly possible to draw a clear line, and I'd agree. However: If you have a shop paint, you're definitely a buyer. (That's going to change this weekend with the wide-ranging hand-outs for the "Bacon" paint. If this is not the only one, though... caught ya!) If you have premium for a long time running (i.e., way longer than the daily missions or giveaways), you're definitely a buyer. And that's about all we can say with near-certainty. I think your "buyer score", if I can take liberties with the nonexistent Tanki census results of ratings data only, is higher if: You have inordinate supply usage per unit of experience You have XT items below (e.g.) Generalissimo You have many M3s below Generalissimo More generally than above, you have a lot of equipment at maximum modification for your rank You have paints worth many crystals not used in product kits sold in the garage, below Generalissimo You have paints on kits only sold in the shop You have T-* protection modules worth many crystals not used in product kits sold in the garage below Generalissimo Most of the measures are not useful at the highest ranks, because you have lots of time to amass crystals through game-play. I do think this can serve as a proxy, though. For example, I don't know if my supply usage is "inordinate", but I score near zilch on all of the others and am not a buyer for any dollar, ruble, peso, etc. threshold. Missions generate enough supplies that I am tripping over them all in my garage. (Too bad there isn't a supply "black market", or some way to make them available to teammates during games...) Not knowing anything else about you, I would say that you have low component "scores" on all of these as well, so I will guess that you are not a buyer. (By the way, congrats on your pending rank-up to Legend!)

I don't know that we can extract it, but I would love to see the list of top non-buyers. It just seems too impracticable to pull off with the information available to us. If anything is a measure of aptitude, that would be it.

May Holidays, Sales and Goodies Coming!

I can't get a toolbar to load on most servers. If I had to guess, I'd say that the zero supply calculations are wrecking it. Can't get in tonight and not getting credit for mission work (no PRO or premium to get into non-mission battles); there goes the mission chain.

Okay, here goes... For all listed users today (minus the ones without updates, and plus the ones which were dropped form the list but had updates), R2 for linear correlation between This is noisy. However, I see a straight line through all the low ranks (about 3000 x rank number). What if we look at everyone below the Gizmo rank? This rating is rather uninteresting for those who look forward to unlocking equipment at a future rank. We can go away until we're big enough to have a rank party. Even M3 users must follow the leader on ranks for a while. Enough about us peasants; what if we look at everyone at Gizmo or a Legend rank? This is correlation, not causation. However, it means that if you're a Gizmo with a high K/D, catch a lot of golds, win a lot of matches, and do this without absolutely spamming the drug keys, then you're probably a great Tanki player according to this rating. That's hard to argue in general. There are possibly specific edge cases (Isida, pure-play gold hunters, playing with regular teammates with Skype), but it seems that those who consistently win Gizmos/Legends-only battles have the highest ratings. That sounds great.

I'd have to see the tabulation before I could say "good" or "bad". There's certainly wisdom in scaling the rating based upon experience, but we already have a proxy for that in the experience or rank. Rank will dominate until you get to the point that rank doesn't matter anymore (and that sounds like the target range for the rating in the first place). Lower ranks already operate under the assumption that rank approximates skill, since there are only a few outliers for this who fly through promotions. I don't see an issue with this, as long as it only applies to all but the top few ranks. The key is in seeing what differentiates a superior tanker at a given rank from an average one. That is what would make the system brilliant (and since you came up with it, brilliance is certainly possible). Based upon the 7 Feb data available here on the outside, the previous system had a naive linear R2 of 0.43 between the rating and the K/D ratio. It would doubtless be even higher if non-linearity of K/D were taken into account. Also, nauseatingly, R2 between supplies/hr and the rating was 0.14, meaning that at bare minimum one seventh of your score was simply how much you drugged; ieww. Since parkour supply usage is probably included here, since drugs measures here don't split between repair kits or other supplies, and since drugs/hour is inherently non-linear, it was probably much worse. I didn't see any other listed column (including my contrived measure of crystals per supply) with correlation to this rating. Metrics are hard. I look forward to the next data set.

I'm in the 60,000s too. They might as well have made it a function of experience, because every rating I've seen so far appears to be strictly explained by rank. I would further set H0 that we could collect enough rankings to lose any other parameter into background noise. At the very high end (legend/gizmo and maybe a couple below), I might expect to see something else dominate.

I don't think it's too hard, if we take the assumption that supply usage is constant for a given user. (This is not always true, especially for long-playing, lower-ranked players, but for someone who was Gizmo at the start of profile stats collection, it would probably be a good guess). If we assume this, then we can take the experience gained since stats were collected (known from the weapons data) and supplies used, and extrapolate the supply usage over total experience. So, e.g., if someone has gained 1/3 of their experience after stats collection started, and used 1000 drugs, then we assume that they used 3000 over their career and divide that into crystals.

Rating 7986 and falling... Friday: Foggy (of war), chance of raining artillery... "Weather" or not you agree, I'd like to see the ultimate anti-drugger column: Crystals per used supply.
  15. Yeah, folks, back this one out. Even on a private map I'm getting jerky motion. Think like the meme pic where Picard, Riker, and Data are head-banging to the car radio. I can't find a good one to post, but that's about the beat pace and the experience.

Preventing M3s at Extremely Low Ranks

It's definitely possible. I am no buyer and have a nearly M4 Thunder. The trade-off is that I am extremely patient and saved for nearly a year to do it. I also had to trade off diversity of game play to attack every sized map, enemy force, and battle mode with the same weapon. Because of the rank limitations on kits and equipment now, though, what I have done is impossible. For M1/M2 transitions, it would make sense to do it on equipment which unlocks very low on M1 and very high on M2. Smoky, Wasp, and Titan come to mind immediately. In fact, heavy hulls are a great platform to target a strategy like this, because I find them to be under-valued versus lighter eqpt.
  18. Sergeant808

    Extreme lag

I've observed more lag incidents since the Battle button update. I think that more games being fully populated may have something to do with it. Effect and tank motions have to be transmitted to all users in higher volume on more crowded or larger maps. I do not notice the issue much on smaller maps, and my usual play time is during a relatively low bandwidth usage window in the Eastern US.

    What to buy: M2's

You told us not to say "save up for a kit". However, you could use all of the following things: -An M2 gun good on Rio (didn't see clearly if you actually had Isida M2; if so, cool) -An M2 hull good on Rio -An M2 protection module against things good on Rio I have found that tons of weapons are good on Rio, so pick one which fits your bill. That also means that any protection M2 at 3 x 25% is better than M1 at 3 x 15%, since the weapons can all be good. However, I didn't see many light hulls doing well there. Consider a medium hull for future-proofing (you're at the rank for Dictator and can kit into Hunter or Viking). Most of the high-end M2s will shred that tin can Hornet of yours that is basically M1+. There's a chance that you won't like moving off light hulls, if you're addicted to the speed. I personally find there's too many enemies on Rio per square mile to get around with a light hull on anything except possibly control point mode. I have to share my path because I'm still milking it for all it's worth (and warning, I'm a big-hull guy). I bought the Fortress kit at your rank, and it was incredibly powerful. The amount of armor can't be obtained for many more ranks. You get Thunder, which I can attest is pretty darn strong (and echoed in thread), and you saw how much your M1 rocked when you got it. The protection module helps against your own splash, which with some crammed areas on Rio really saves your bacon now and then. Believe it or not, I had success scoring flags over the top, especially on Blue. People with M1/M2 equipment can empty clipS plural into you and not take you out. Even if you don't consider one of the Mammoth kits at 1LT because you're not a heavy hull person, maybe you should at least look at the Viking M2 kits up the next rank to CPT. Those things are really tough for low-end M2s to take out, and Rio was being won by Viking M2s a bunch while I was in the LT ranks. Twins M2 was unbelievable on a Viking M2 with 25% protection against 3 turrets. Either way, your decision is now because you're 1LT today and you'll be CPT this week. I didn't just say "kit" because of your instructions, but if I were you, it would be the first, second, and third thing I would investigate. Maybe Hammer and your Hornet would be good for stopping a flag carrier or taking out a troublesome sniper/healer via flanking? You're likely good on Rio because you play it so much, per what you said. If so, you know you have to be able to do more than one thing to help the team based upon context (defense, flag carrier, decoy, go get the high-scoring bad guy, take out the carrier, area control, swarm where needed). Versatile helps with that. If you absolutely love light hulls and won't kit, then you're stuck with Hornet M2 for a long time. Since Thunder M1 isn't obsolete for you yet, pick something complementary for it. You said you like Isida, so if you don't have the M2 it would be a great choice. Freeze M2 is a cheap treat if you have the maneuver room (maybe not on Rio), but maybe you want a medium range gun like Twins, Hammer, or Rico. Hammer is kind of a shorter range Thunder, but it's different enough to consider. Rico M0/M1 dominate lower ranks, but the M2 ranks wash the M2 out quickly. Hammer lasts longer. Twins violates your no-kit directive. Also, as you go up in ranks, you'll have fewer bucks to pay for equipment, so you'll have less combos. If someone has strong tactics or protection against your primary, you need a "sidearm" as a backup. This backup has to be as orthogonal (unrelated) to the primary as possible in terms of protection and tactics. One thing I found when looking at Hammer and Thunder together was that Hammer had the least amount of protection on modules at the same time as Thunder. Thus, if your opponent is stopping Thunder, they are least likely of all the other 10 turrets to also have Hammer protected. I'd still suggest a Hammer kit instead of the turret by itself, unless you're a piloting genius with that Hornet and ready to ride only that unarmored M2 jalopy against M3s later in life.
  20. I have to keep up with people who spend money, too. So I saved for over a year and got Bulldozer before all M3 equipment got pulled up to Marshal for early access to the M3. I have applied MUs to it to get it into the forties out of fifty, nothing bought. I use a few supplies, but you'll see supply numbers like mine going up as people who can't get M3s have to keep up with drugging Legends with full M4 equipment and all supplies active all the time out of habit. As you go up the ranks, you'll see more and more druggers. I still have an M2 hull. I get chewed apart against high ranks who drug because I don't use 50 supplies in a 15 minute game (and usualy a week or more). I had one guy not too far above me with M3+ equipment who used every supply and at least 10 in a 2-minute period, spawn-camp killing me in a 1v1 until I blew his can up. Then he quit, with 12 minutes to go. I'm still trying to understand this. If I find that I am dominating a map because there's only M1/M2 equipment around, I will actively target druggers on the other team and block them from what they want to do (flag, taking up a preferred position, blowing them up if a gold drops, etc.). Sometimes I purposefully avoid someone at your rank, whom I know I could two-shot, because someone else on my team with the same situation can handle you or at least have a fair fight. If a drugger wants to be a prima donna, and if I can do anything about it, I try. Impossible when I'm playing up. I can keep up with higher ranks unless they're drugging. I can dominate people at or below my rank.... unless they're drugging. Drugs are how you pay to win, generally, more importantly than your equipment except at the highest echelons.

50% off MUs and 70% off SUs for 48hrs!

The amounts appear to be off by 50% for micro-upgrades and, oh, about 70% for speed-ups... There must be some sort of party in Perm and we weren't invited? No kits in the shop, either... just an observation.

    Annoying turrets

Lots of people are answering the question "What is the most dangerous turret?" or similar. The poll is the most annoying, so I'll stick to that. My definition of annoying is something that keeps me from doing what I want to do on a map. I have to change strategy to cover for the enemy turret taking out all the noobies (which would ordinarily be not-quite-so-nooish in the midfield or enemy base, maybe even sopping up damage and attention). Besides the obvious answer of "the biggest enemy drugger on the map", who is always annoying... It has to be Shaft. Shaft can command a lane and slow down a whole wing of the attack. Inordinate resources have to be devoted to defeating one or two tanks (imagine two competent Shafts with an overwatch pattern making up a fireteam.... nasty). Shaft is the squad support weapon of Tanki. Position the Shaft tank in the firing lanes to make the squad successful. Sound doctrine.
  24. I am a dominantly Thunder user, by a long shot. If I had to guess about the most kills on Thunder, I would say: 1) Railgun - there's too many of them in use, they out-range the victim, and they can shoot through tanks and carcasses without appreciable loss of damage (unlike all other weapons, now, after the re-balance this year). Extremely bad match-up for a Thunder. 2) Any short-range gun - they out-damage the victim at the operating range. At least in this case, the attacker must physically approach to cause damage. Of course, there's a lot of these across three different guns. 3) Thunder - If you're using it, you were able to buy it with crystals or ruble equivalents. That means that others around your ranks are, too. Careless targeting also means that you can be your own victim. 4) Shaft - just pay for drugs like candy and you can pretty much one-shot anyone (even heavy hulls) to buy your way to a leader position. Thunder as a target is no exception. I think this is going to be an increasingly bad turret to face as people with money to blow realize that it's a "something" after the re-balance. 5) Situational turret based upon map - Twins, Hammer, Vulcan, Smoky, and Rico are all dangerous at the correct range and operator supply usage. Based upon the map, they move up this list a bunch. And please don't suggest drugging as a viable strategy for a general case. Otherwise, one could say "hey, just shoot up a repair-kit/damage/speed/armor box and you'll be twice as effective each". This is a question (I think) about the most potent threats to a Thunder user, possibly to guide a protection choice. If the first thing you do when threatened is to pop drugs, then it doesn't really matter what protection module you're using. I don't know why the profile page shows me using 5000 supplies in 1 year of stats. I've never used that many, and do not buy them. There is some sort of bug in there. I have not used 25 supplies per playing hour since October 2015. (Otherwise, the stats would incorrectly appear to undermine my supply usage argument against threat mitigation.)

I can't seem to login to Tanki

Confirmed. Looks OK. Time to not buy some MUs, so tempting...
