I don't even care about buyers. Most of the time, someone who is a buyer is compensating for a lack of skill. So they get a more powerful tank - and I smoke them anyway. But I don't like spending 15% of my time just WAITING for MatchMaker to dump me into a battle I can't win on a map I don't want to play. MatchMaker SUCKS! Make Tanki better... END MATCHMAKER NOW!

There's a big difference between Trump (who sounds terrible, but it doing a good job) and MatchMaker (which sounds good, and is HORRIBLE!) Make Tanki better... END MATCHMAKER NOW!

Here's an idea for the interface: STOP LYING! Before MatchMaker, the average wait to get into a new battle was about 10 seconds. Now the average wait time is somewhere in the 5x-10x range. MatchMaker is a disaster. It doesn't create "even" battles. It crams every battle full of people - including a lot of people who don't want to play the map (who then just leave making the battles even more uneven), and it sucks people into hopeless battles in the last few minutes. So you try to join a battle, MatchMaker makes you wait for 5 to 10 times LONGER, then it dumps you in a battle you cannot possibly win. How is this an improvement? To top it off, the Developers LIE to the users about how long the wait will be. Make Tanki better... END MATCHMAKER NOW!
-
An even better idea? END MATCHMAKER! Seriously. The "average waiting time" is just a lie. Can you imagine what battles would be like when you wait 2 minutes to get into a game and everyone else is in chat waiting for the game to start - so it starts, and no one shows up? Everyone seems to forget that we USED to have a system where the average waiting time to get into a battle was about 10 seconds. Then the Tanki Devs came up with MatchMaker and we've all been screwed ever since. <<<--- MatchMaker FAIL! Actually, this message should just say, "We raped you again!" END MATCHMAKER NOW!
-
That's part of the design of MatchMaker. Make you wait an absurd amount of time, stick you in a battle you don't want to play on a map your equipment isn't right for, don't even tell you what map it is so you have to enter before you can bail, and - oh yeah! Odds are you're gonna be dumped in a LOST BATTLE because the last 6 people MatchMaker dumped in the battle bailed early and the team is nothing but spawn kill noobs. How do you fix all that? END MATCHMAKER NOW!

That's the whole point of MatchMaker! It's just one on-going carnal knowledge fest involving your anal sphincter. And now it's in the pay-to-play games.

Here's an idea for a change in the interface: GET RID OF MATCHMAKER. MatchMaker is a steaming pile of excrement. And it's just one LIE after another. And after it FINALLY kicked in, I got dumped into a game with just 3 minutes left. Like waiting for games? Like no choice in battles? Like getting dumped into losing battles? Like getting dumped into games that are almost over? Like hugely unbalanced teams and being on the losing end of a massive slaughter? Like the way your teammates abandon you in an instant, leaving your team undermanned and doomed to lose? Then you must LOVE MatchMaker! MatchMaker is a failed experiment. END MATCHMAKE NOW!

Sounds like Vulcan will be the next turret that's OP. Want to REALLY improve Tanki? End the MatchMaker DISASTER. END MATCHMAKER NOW!

True. But part of the reason for this is MatchMaker doesn't let you have REMATCHES. So you don't have time to learn how others on your team play and make adjustments. Shorter battles also contribute to this. When battles were 15 minutes, two evenly matched teams might play 3 or more games in a row with essentially the same teams intact from game to game. This was TANKI AT ITS BEST! You had a chance to learn how your team played - and how the opposing team played. You can learn that in 30-60 minutes. You CANNOT learn that in 5 minutes. And remember, MatchMaker scrambles the teams - so you don't get to learn how anyone plays. The result is a total loss of the concepts of "team" and "strategy". As I said, it's more like revving up a bunch of chain saws and just throwing them together in a box. There's no thinking. No planning. No strategy. Just shoot... and shoot... and keep on shooting because that's all Tanki has become with MatchMaker. END MATCHMAKER NOW!

If you do the math, it's pretty clear the developers are just lying to us. If the "average" time is 14 seconds, then your 1 minute 8 seconds means 7 other players got in after just 6 seconds. ( 6n+(68-14)=14n n=~7 ) For 15 additional players, their average wait time would have to be 10 seconds. How many of you are seeing wait times of 10 seconds or less? (Sometimes. Very rarely.) But what this tells us is that for every case like the one above, if the devs are not LYING to us, there should be 15 players who only wait 10 seconds. Conclusion: The Developers are LYING. END MATCHMAKER NOW!

It will be interesting to see how you report on the next 5 games you play. In my experience, over half the games are total blowouts. Another 20-30% are heinously lop-sided, but the losing team does score. Some. I suspect what you're experiencing is just short-term luck of the draw. If you see great improvement over the next five games, then maybe it's a trend. But I would bet against it. Mostly what I see on a losing side is 3-4 players with scores in the 200-500 range followed by a bunch of scores in the 0-100 range. These last are poor saps who got stuffed into the lost game... and are often 2nd or 3d generation - that is, 5 of the original players left and were replaced (1st generation), and a lot of THEM left and were replaced (2nd generation). Towards the end of the game, we even get 3d generation as the only people sticking around are those with high enough scores that it doesn't make sense for them to leave in the final minute or two. But the game was actually decided in the first minute - and those who left first were the people who recognized it - OR - were dumped on a map they didn't want to play. Overall, things were MUCH better before MatchMaker. At least you could CHOOSE whether you wanted to fight in a lost cause. END MATCHMAKER NOW!

Just tried this and it's simply wrong. What actually happens is ti takes MatchMaker maybe 3 minutes to put together a battle. So you wait the "average" waiting time (the Tanki developer LIE) and exit, and try again. And again. And it eventually adds up to 3 minutes anyway. Sure, the last time you try it, maybe the waiting time is "less", but if you add up all the time you spent trying to compensate for Tanki developer incompetence, it works out the same anyway. END MATCHMAKER NOW!

Don't care about overdrive one way or the other. Before MatchMaker was better in MANY ways. Loading the box is generally bad. Matchmaker sucks so hard... Got back-to-back timeouts tonight. It occurred to me that the Tanki devs are liars. There's no other way. When the message says "average wait time" is 21 seconds, but I wind up waiting 3 minutes, that means in a 16-player game, everyone else is waiting, on average, 10.6 seconds LESS than the 21 seconds. That means all 15 got into the game in about 10 seconds. But if that's the case, why am I waiting 3 minutes? So the Tanki devs are just lying to us. END MATCHMAKER NOW!

HAHAHAHA! You make my point! MatchMaker is excrement. But with the right chemicals, maybe it is possible to make is smell a little less bad. That about sum it up? END MATCHMAKER NOW! How about getting them to address the NINE issues I raised with MatchMaker - and letting us know what we're getting in exchange? From where I sit, I see 9 negatives and NOTHING positive about MatchMaker. You haven't been around Tanki long, have you? Buy that account? Tanki never listens to anything anyone has to say. Just try asking a question of customer (HA! HA! HAAA!) "service". Few jokes are bigger. If you get dumped on a map you don't want to play... leave the game. If you get dumped in a game that's already in progress, but you have a "Top 3" mission... leave the game. There are two other missions that the player can try to complete. First let me point out that you cede the point that MatchMaker dumps people into battles that are basically incompatible with their missions. Second, if I've completed two missions and the only one I have left is as described, then your premise fails. If youR team is losing... why stick around? Leave the game! If you have a good score why leave? You will still get a decent amount of crystals because of the new fund system. Heck, I once got 500 score on the losing team and got MORE, yes you read that correctly MORE crystals than the winner on the other team who only got 300 score! The losing team won't just give you 50 anymore after getting a 200+ score. And how many times in your LIFE has that happened? The norm is for someone on your team to recognize that the game is a loser and bail. This means your team is now operating at an 11% disadvantage (all other things being equal). But the differential is likely greater than that - else why is the team losing in the first place? If it's late in the game, I've been known to grit my teeth and ride it out for the score. But I'm becoming less and less willing to do that. Sucks for the other players on the team, because the slaughter will be much worse for them - but then, I didn't create MatchMaker, so if they don't like the blowouts, talk to the nut jobs who did! What effect does this have? Well, there are several. I've written before about the effect of being a man down. If you have two teams of 10, with everyone on both teams having all M3 equipment, when one team loses a player, it's the same as having a full team - but with all M2 equipment. That's the difference it makes. I did the math. But with MatchMaker, it's even WORSE because there's a time-lag bringing a new player into a game in progress. That's prime-time for enemy scoring. So the game gets more imbalanced and then a new player is dropped in. If they're a noob, don't know what they're doing, they may stick around and play. But if it's someone with some skills who sees the setup for what it is - massive spawn kill and nobody on his team who can play for crap - he leaves. This is like a one-way filter with all the best players getting out. That guy with some skills can also try to make a difference before determining that it's gonna be a spawncamping festival. Sometimes. Rarely. Even if you have five ranks on the rest of the field, you can help yourself, but if the rest of the team are a bunch of noobs, you'll just wind up fighting five tanks at a time and your team will still lose - badly. MatchMaker is a stupid idea with even worse execution. There are lots of reasons why it should be killed: It takes away choice of games. What choice? Before MM, we had this situation: (Before we begin, let's say there are twenty active battles) 15 are one sided blowouts, 2 only have 1 or 2 people in them, and another three are full. (these are the battles everyone wants to get into) See, that's the thing. We've had "MatchMaker" right along. It was called the "Battle" button. Guess what? NOBODY USED IT! Now if MatchMaker is so great, why weren't Tankers pushing the "Battle" button like coke-crazed monkeys in an operant-conditioning experiment? BECAUSE NOBODY LIKES MATCHMAKER! If they DID, Tanki wouldn't be FORCING US TO USE IT! It dumps people into half-finished battles. I agree with you on this, I'm often dumped into 2 minute games and I hate it so much! It wastes time - oh SO MUCH TIME - just getting into a battle. Are you playing during peak times? This evening I spent MORE time waiting to get into a battle than actually playing. Is 0200HRS GMT "peak"? I doubt it. But tonight, between waiting for games to come up, Tanki slow-loading and crashing and timing out, I spent about 30 minutes just waiting, and about 20 minutes actually playing. It's introduced lag in browsers. (I see less lag in the client). Can't say anything because I use standalone flash. The battles are anything but balanced. Most, but not all of them are crap. You're like the guy looking for something to eat who comes across a cow-patty and picks out the seeds. MatchMaker is excrement. Buried in that excrement may be a few seeds. It's like the (analog) clock that isn't running. It's still right twice a day. Does that actually help anything? (Hint: NO.) MatchMaker always wants to cram the maximum number of players into every battle. Remember when sometimes the battles WEREN'T jammed so full? Back when strategy was part of the game? Last time I checked, an 8v8 isn't that packed. Check again. Earlier you mentioned games with 1 or 2 people in them. Those typically turned into 2v2 or 3v3... which you NEVER see now. Now strategy is gone. It's just who has the best armor, biggest gun, can shoot the fastest, and blast away. It's a brain-dead game. This isn't an issue pertaining to MM, but rather the stupid drug meta that the devs are pushing. See http://en.tankiforum...howtopic=375577 No, it's MatchMaker. If you cram a bunch of people into a battle, it's pretty tough not to have someone in your sights or be in someone else's sights. Point is... just shoot and don't think. That's what Tanki has become. It makes it harder to complete missions. If I'm dumped in a battle with just two repair boxes on the entire map, and my mission is "Get 3 Repair Boxes" - I quit and try another battle. No point in fighting 19 other people over two boxes. Those box missions shouldn't be your main objective in a battle. I highly recommend to skip those missions because they encourage mults who don't play for their team. "Shouldn't be my main objective"? Says who? Are you now the Tanki god who dictates what should be important to players in a game? Frankly, people leaving games early is a MUCH bigger problem than mults ever were. Rematches are gone. Used to be if there was a really EXCELLENT battle, the two sides would hang around and play again. And again. And again. I've been in battles where pretty much the same two teams played 5 or more battles in a row and everyone was having a blast. That's all gone now, because MatchMaker rips people out of the battle, off the map and shuffles them all up to produce crappy, unbalanced battles. Let me ask you, WHAT REMATCHES? Most of the time, the losing team left because they didn't want the other team to keep spawncamping them over and over and over again and get NOTHING while the other team gets loads of crystals! You think this is fair? MM only solved one problem and introduced five others, which I will gratefully take instead of getting hammered by the other team to oblivion. I would post some pictures of the countless blowouts I've fought and failed in the Warrant Officer ranks without "Noob MM" but I'm not on my main computer right now. Sorry, but you are simply 1000% wrong on this one. When a game was close, say a hard-fought 10v9 CTF, it was quite common for people to stay and play another game - a game that started just 10 seconds later (not minutes later, as with MatchMaker). I have been in sequential battles running out to more than 6 games in a row with maybe 2 players on each side changing out over that time. It got to the point by the second or third game that you began to know what YOUR team was going to do and what the ENEMY team was going to do. It was really cool seeing an actual TEAM learn how to operate better and better. This is what Tanki should strive to be. But with MatchMaker, it's destroyed. Maybe you lack the ability to appreciate this, but it was the best part of Tanki. Now there are no "teams". There's just a bunch of chain-saws running full out tossed into a box to tear each other apart. MatchMaker is the worst thing Tanki devs have ever done (assuming none of them has murdered anyone). END MATCHMAKER NOW!

Actually, you are partly correct. Tanki has doubtless put much time and effort into MatchMaker. But at some point they have to admit, it's a DISASTER. One can put a lot of time an effort into something that turns out to be entirely WRONG - and that's what Tanki has done. There have been some incredibly stupid decisions throughout history: The French government spent $15 BILLION on trains that are too wide for 1300 of the platforms in their system. Decca Records turned down signing the Beatles because they were "unsellable". Napoleon and Hitler both tried to invade Russia in winter. The Russians sold Alaska to the U.S. for 2 cents an acre. The Dutch discovered Australia 100 years before the British - but ignored it because they thought it was useless desert. Tanki installed "MatchMaker".
-
Why don't you try sticking to facts? I've given you 9 good reasons to get rid of MatchMaker. All you can do is call me names and tell lies. (Nothing on Tanki is "99%"). Do you have a brain? Use it. What we have now in terms of blowouts is no better (actually, I think it's worse) than what we had before. So on balance, we've gained NOTHING. And we have something WORSE than mults. Mults were little people with desperation and no skills. But there were relatively few of them. What we have now is thousands of "quitters", which are just as bad as mults. Whether someone is sitting doing nothing, or looking at the map, the team, the score or the situation and saying, "I'm outa here" doesn't matter. One team is still down a man, and that makes about an 11% difference. Because MatchMaker drives MORE people to quit MORE battles, it's the same effect as a lot MORE mults. END MATCHMAKER NOW! What are you? A Stasi-wannabe? I've seen people banned for NOTHING. No rules broken. No cursing. If anyone needs banning it's the moderators! As for kids cursing... if that irritates your sensitive little eyeballs, there's fix for that which doesn't involve spinning up the thought police: "IGNORE". Yep, just "ignore" the offender and they'll never bother you again. If you're too damned lazy to do that, or too stupid, then you deserve all the ocular irritation we can dish out - tear gas levels! END MATCHMAKER NOW! The issue IS MatchMaker. The only way to FIX it is to get rid of it. END MATCHMAKER NOW!

We had non-pro battles LONG before MatchMaker. Let's go back to that. It wasn't perfect, but it was a HELLUVA lot better than MatchMaker. END MATCHMAKER NOW!

It's only going to get worse. I predicted this when MatchMaker first came out. If you take away the choice of battle, you take away one incentive to stay. After all, YOU didn't choose the battle. MatchMaker ASSIGNED you a battle. If the battle SUCKS, you have NO REASON TO STAY. If you get dumped on a map you don't want to play... leave the game. If you get dumped in a game that's already in progress, but you have a "Top 3" mission... leave the game. If youR team is losing... why stick around? Leave the game! What effect does this have? As with most changes to Tanki software, the WAR started out as a freaking DISASTER as the Tanki Devs piled to create one of the most gigantic piles of steaming ever to plague the universe of software. For starters, it was clear that no one with a human usability background was even remotely involved - as the steps to follow were far from clear and/or did not work. The bugs were everywhere, from paints, to login issues, to the software just... not... working at all. The launch slipped as the developers lied about when the bugs would be fixed, then slipped again and finally the WAR stumbled into a mess that sort of but mostly did not work. The greatest stench is the way that MatchMaker is picking winners and losers. In the past four games I've been dumped into by MatchMaker, 3 were already decided. It didn't matter that there was 6 or 4 or even 8 minutes remaining. When the GOAL of the WAR is to score as high in the standings as possible (with only 1st and 2nd place being given extra stars), MatchMaker is truly players when it dumps them into games on the losing side where the other team already has a substantial lead, and even the players on the losing team have a 100-200 point advantage. It's like entering a race where the judges make you wear leg weights and don't let you start running until the competition is halfway down the track. Once again, MatchMaker is creating problems that did not exist before. It's the worst smelling piece of excrement in the history of Tanki and should be eliminated. Not only is it screwing up WAR, but add into the bargain that you have to sit and wait.... and wait... and wait... Did I mention you have to WAIT just to get into a battle? Never had to do that before. MatchMaker TRULY sucks. Beyond that, it would be nice if someone at Tanki did some TESTING before launching new features. Meanwhile, WAR is all!
-
So, do I have this right? When MatchMaker wastes a whole crapload of my time, your solution is to remind me that MatchMaker has just wasted a crapload of my time and have me push a button so it can start wasting my time... again? Do I even need to point out how incredibly stupid that is? Do the right thing. Get rid of MatchMaker. It is a cancer on Tanki.
-
I despise the Unified Battle List. I think it's the worst change Tanki has ever made. I have played Tanki every night since the mission chains were created - with the exception of a couple days when Tanki implemented the crap known as the "matchmaker" system. At that point, it was no longer worth playing Tanki, so I quit for a few days. Fortunately, they got rid of it, and I started to play again. Unfortunately, Tanki has added something just as bad - or maybe even worse. I know Tanki doesn't really listen to players, so the only way to express how much I hate the change is to stop playing until the Unified Battle List is eliminated. I will play my last games tonight - and set an alarm to check back in a month to see if the Unified Battle List has been removed... or if Tanki is even still around. If not... well, by that point, I probably won't even miss Tanki very much and will not start playing again. Tanki - you are screwing the pooch. Wake up... or die.
-
Wow. You are a noob, aren't you? I've never had anything I've ever reported acted on. That includes the hackers who use the "jump" hack to grab gold boxes. Probably better though. Violation of game rules are the least of the problems with Tanki working so hard to take all the fun out of the game.
-
Having played with the new Unified Battle Selector for two days now, I can say with authority, it doesn't just suck... IT BLOWS LIKE A HURRICANE!! If it is not the most rancid pile of excrement ever squeezed from the bowels of Tanki development, it is certainly a major contender for the worst. The only cheer Tanki deserves for this one is a Bronx cheer. I would not be surprised if this was the final nail in Tanki's coffin.
