    [Issue 81] TOF 2018 Summary

Another year, another TOF. That's how it works since the very beginning of the game. In this article, I'll cover the TOF event of 2018. So if some of you didn't have time to follow the tournament, this article is for you! Read further to discover which players took home the Acid paint! Note: In the article, there is basic information about each category. I will cover the most important matches in each category; semi-finals, finals & grand-final. I've decided to share my own opinion about each match. Take into account that my opinion is something personal and not a fact. If you have a different opinion, feel free to share it! Tanki Online Fighting, well known as "TOF" is a big event which takes place in the game on a yearly basis. The event contains 3-5 categories (depends on the year). In order to win in the tournament, being a skilled tanker is never enough. Playing smart is a very important key, as well as thinking out of the box. The prize pool included millions of crystals, containers, Gold boxes, supplies, fully upgraded drones, a gaming mouse from Canyon & the Acid paint which comes with the Spectrum B module! The unique Acid paint, along with Spectrum B! As for 2018, there were 5 categories. Let's have a look at them: TOF Dream Team: A category made for clans, in order to get an invitation, the clans had to play Russian Blitz matches. Matches were held in 5 vs 5 format with smart supplies enabled. All turrets were allowed, except Magnum. all hulls, all paints, all modules (excluding unique ones) and all alterations. Each clan could register up to 10 players. Battle settings: TOF Dream Team's progress: 40 teams received an invitation to the tournament, the teams were split into 10 groups of 4 teams per group. There were 6 matches in the first stage of the tournament. During the first stage each team played twice against other clans from group. After the match, each team got points (for a win, a clan received 3 points, for a draw 1 point, for a loss 0). The clans who finished 1-2 place in their groups moved on the the second stage. Right after the first stage ended, 20 teams moved on to the second stage of the tournament. There, once again, the teams were split into groups - There were 4 groups of 5 clans each. The system stayed the same - After the match, each team got points (for a win, a clan received 3 points, for a draw 1 point, for a loss – 0). The clans who finished 1-2 place in their groups moved on to the playoffs. After a long road, 8 skilled teams have successfully landed a spot to the playoffs. The system in the playoffs was different, and it worked in the following way: a loser of each match in upper bracket is immediately eliminated from upper stage to lower bracket, and a loser of each match in lower bracket is immediately eliminated from the tournament. Teams who participated in the playoffs stage: Force Team Pointers Penguins Synergy Bad Bunny Limerence LeGioN Of KinGs NewStar Semi-finals (upper bracket) 2 Semi-finals were held on the 24th of August. In the Semi-finals, the matches were played on 3 maps, 2 rounds in each map. Team Pointers vs Bad Buny: This match was a very tough one. At first, Bad Buny seemed to be the dominating clan, but Team Pointers took over and won the match. For me, Bad Buny lost control of the middle which is why they lost. A very enjoyable match, even a dramatic one I would say. The outcome of the match was 3:2. Force vs LeGioN Of KinGs: Team Force dominated the match since the begin. They seemed to be the calm ones and they knew what they are doing. However, LeGioN Of KinGs played well, especially as a new team. I didn't expect so much from a new team as LeGioN Of KinGs, hat's off to you. :) The outcome of the match was 3:1. Stream of the match held between Team Poiners and Bad Buny Final (upper bracket) This match took place on the 28th of August between Team Pointers and Force. The match was played on 5 maps, 2 rounds in each map, 10 rounds in total. In the match itself, Team Pointers was the dominating team. They always were a step ahead of Team Force which is why Team Pointers won the match, with an outcome of 6:2. Team Pointers had clever tactics, the one who impressed me the most was the legendary , who used Wasp/Railgun combo in the Forest map. This tactic turned out to be very useful and successful! Semi-finals (lower bracket) A very interesting match between Bad Buny and the famous English clan Penguins! The match took place on the 28th of August, and was played on 5 maps, 2 rounds in each map. Specifically in this match, teams played a tiebreaker round because the number of rounds won by each team was equal after the 10th round. From my point of view, this match was one of the greatest in TOF! At the beginning, Team Bad Budy was winning and it seemed like this is the end for Penguins. But just then, Penguins made an awesome comeback. The match ended with the result of 6:5 for Penguins, something they really deserved! Interesting fact: Both of these clans were eliminated to the losers bracket by Team Pointers. In case you missed the match, here's a link for the stream: Final (loser bracket) The last match before the grand-final. Two strong teams played in the final of the loser bracket - Force and Penguins! The match was very thrilling as both teams had only one desire - to win! The match took place on the 30th of August. In the end, Force managed to take over the match and beat Penguins with the results of 6:2. It was a wonderful match between 2 powerful teams. It was very nice to see how Penguins improved. Stream: Grand-Final The most interesting match of all that decided which team is the Dream Team! The grand final took place on the 31st, just a day after the Final of the loser bracket. The dueling teams were Force and Team Pointers. As the previous matches, there were 5 maps. Team Pointers seemed to be the winning team, actually, until the 7th round they were leading 3:1, but just then Force started realizing what they are doing wrong. With the right decisions, and the brilliant gameplay they managed to beat Team Pointers with the result of 5:3. Incredible! If you ask me, Force learned from the mistakes of the previous match and the aforementioned match too, which is why they took over Team Pointers! Stream: TOF Dream Team Conclusion During the tournament, most of the players around the Russian forum had the same opinion - Team Pointers will be the winners. But as the tournament progressed, other teams started surprising everyone with unexpected skills. It was a pleasure to watch matches between strong teams, there were many strong teams but the strongest teams of all were Team Pointers and Force, which were a level above all. TOF Solo Thunder: A category made for Single players. There were no limitations in registering to the tournament, every player who met the requirements could register. Matches were held in 1 vs 1 format with smart supplies enabled. All hulls were allowed, all alterations, all paints, and no protection modules were allowed. The only turret which could be used was naturally Thunder. Battle settings: TOF Solo Thunder's progress: The first stage started with 128 registered players. In the first stage, a player who lost a match was immediately eliminated from the tournament while the winner progressed to the next match. Each match had 4 rounds which were played in 1 map, the winner of each round was the player who captured more flags, the winner of the match was the player who won the higher number of rounds. The second stage, which is also known as the Playoffs stage started when only 23 players stayed in the tournament. The system in the Playoffs worked different. A player who lost a match was moved into the lower bracket, a player who lost in the lower bracket was immediately eliminated from the tournament. Semi-finals (upper bracket) Two semi-finals were held on the same date: 21st of August. The first match was between the players @Nomad and @Bew25. The match was played on the map Zone. The result wasn't surprising at all as @Nomad has already won a few TOF tournaments in his career. After a calm match, @Nomad has beaten @Bew25 with the outcome of 3:0. In the second match, the famous player played against one of the 'new stars' in eSports: @I_Live_WiThouT_LaWs. The map for this match was Station. I can tell that was well prepared for the match which is why the match ended with the result of 3:0 for him. Finals (upper bracket) The final was held on the 25th of August, between @Nomad & . The match was played on 3 different maps: Zone, Valley and Cross, two rounds on each map. I have to admit, the result was surprising! is known as a good duelist, but beating @Nomad is not an easy task at all. After a very tough match, has beaten @Nomad 3:2. Semi final (lower bracket) This match was played on the 29th of August. @GGWP, who's a skilled player and has good results from previous TOF tournaments, played against one of the best players in the game - @Force. Both opponents were from the same team - Team Force. After a nice battle, @Force has progressed to the next match after beating @GGWP with an outcome of 3:0. Finals (lower bracket) A match between 2 legendary players - @Force & @Nomad. The match was played on the 5th of September. Although, both of them control the art of Thunder, I could already guess who would be the winner, and I was right! @Force, who has already reached the Grand-Final of TOF Solo Thunder did it once again after winning his match against @Nomad with a result of 3:1. Grand Final This was the last match of the tournament where faced @Force. The match took place on the 6th of September. After a strange match, received the Acid paint. Honestly, I do not think @Force did his best, it may have been due to him being nervous. Nevertheless, congratulations to ! TOF Solo Thunder Conclusion I don't have a lot to say, just the following sentence - When you want something, nothing is impossible and that's what has proven in this tournament. I didn't really think he would have won, but he trained hard and gained enough skills to become the best Thunder player for 2018! TOF Solo Ricochet: A category made for Single players. There were no limitations in registering to the tournament, every player who met the requests could register. Matches were held in 1 vs 1 format with smart supplies enabled. All hulls were allowed, all alterations, all paints, no protection modules were allowed. The only turret which could be used was Ricochet. Battle settings: TOF Solo Ricochet's progress: The first stage started with 256 registered players. In the first stage, a player who lost a match was immediately eliminated from the tournament while the winner progressed to the next match. Each match consisted of 4 rounds which were played in 1 map, the winner of each round was the player who captured more flags, the winner of the match was the player who won the higher number of rounds. The second stage started with 32 players left in the tournament. The system in the Playoffs worked in the following way: a player who lost a match was moved into the lower bracket, a player who lost in the lower bracket is immediately eliminated from the tournament. Semi-finals (upper bracket) As usual, both semi-finals of upper bracket were held on the same date - the 26th of August. The first match was held between & , and the second match was held between @Makxxe & @advokatee. After 2 matches which should've been great (but unfortunately weren't streamed), players @advokatee & progressed to the final of the upper bracket. Final (upper bracket) The above match was help on the 29th of August, between & @advokatee. The match consisted of 6 rounds. After 1 hour, has won with an outcome of 3:0. This match was a bit strange, although I do believe was better than @advokatee at that point of the tournament, it seemed like @advokatee didn't take this tournament seriously. It was very clear when he started playing with Wasp, which is not a very useful hull for TOF Ricochet. Semi-final (lower bracket) The 2 players who reached the semi-final of the lower bracket were @Force and . The match took place on the 2nd of September. The match was played on 3 maps, 2 rounds in each. @Force overcame and proceeded to the next match! Final (loser bracket) Two famous players have reached this stage, @Force from Team Force, and @advokatee, who plays for Team Pointers! The match had 6 rounds. The match took place on the 4th of September. After a pretty good match, @Force has managed to win without losing a single round! I am glad this match was streamed. We had a great display of 2 eSports professionals. @Force was well-prepared to the match, unlike @advokatee, who seemed to be a bit rusty but still managed to play well. Grand-Final We can all agree on one thing, the grand-final is the most exciting match in every tournament as only the best players are left! In the following grand-final, we have had the pleasure to watch @Force vs . The match took place on the 5th of September and had 6 rounds. After more than a hour, @Force was crowned has the winner! Once again, an awesome match! I don't have much to say apart from both players seemed to be prepared, but @Force managed to take control of the match and win. TOF Solo Ricochet's Conclusion Well, I am happy the tournament ended this way. First of all, I've known @Force since 2016 and I knew how hard he wanted to win Ricohet's category. Secondly, it's always fun to see big comebacks. :) Other than that, I would like to mention players like and who are not the most known players but did manage to reach good stages in the tournament, keep it up! TOF Solo Hammer: A category made for Single players. There were no limitations in registering to the tournament, every player who met the requests could register. Matches were held in 1 vs 1 format with smart supplies enabled. All hulls were allowed, all alterations, all paints, no protection modules were allowed. The only turret which could be used is Hammer. Battle settings: TOF Solo Hammer's progress: The first stage started with 256 registered players. In the first stage, a player who lost a match was immediately eliminated from the tournament while the winner progressed to the next match. Each match contained 4 rounds which were played in 1 map. The winner of each round was the player who captured more flags, the winner of the match was the player who won the higher number of rounds. The second stage started with 32 players left in the tournament. The system in the Playoffs worked in the following way: a player who lost a match was moved into the lower bracket, a player who lost in the lower bracket is immediately eliminated from the tournament. Semi-finals (upper bracket) This interesting match was held on the 3rd of September, where player played against @avetismergelyan2. The match had 4 rounds but ended after the third round. So, I was really surprised. Why? we all know @avetismergelyan2 as one of the most successful players in the TOF scene, and even the best Hammer player for 2016! But, has managed to overcome @avetismergelyan2 with the result of 3:0. Unbelievable! As I see the things, was always 1 step ahead. Although @avetismergelyan2 played very well, always knew what to do! The second semi-final match was held on the 4th of September, player @beleka faced @advokatee. The match contained 4 normal rounds and 1 tiebreaker round. Their match was a very close one, after a tie in every round they had, they went to play a tie breaker round, where @beleka has won! The match ended with the result of 1:0. From my point of view, @beleka managed to win the last round because he was patient enough. He was waiting for the right moment to attack @advokatee - mostly when he was out of supplies. However, I do not believe his tactic was good for each map. Final (upper bracket) The following match took place on the 5th of September, between & @beleka. The match was played on 3 different maps. Once again, the match was not streamed, but has won with an outcome of 3:0. Semi-finals (lower bracket) Player @GGWP has faced @lenyamal on the 12th of September. The match contained 3 maps, 2 rounds in each map. After 4 rounds, @GGWP has won, thanks to his aim and his drops control! Final (lower bracket) Player @GGWP played against @beleka on the 14th of September, the match had 6 rounds. It took more than an hour, but @beleka has beaten @GGWP with the result of 3:2. It was a close match, both players were at the same level. However, @beleka managed to take advantage of @GGWP's mistakes. Grand-final The last match of the category was held on the 17th of September, where took on @beleka. The match was played 3 maps, 2 rounds in each map. One hour later, has won with an outcome of 3:1. The main reason won was that he knew @beleka's tactic and he knew how to deal with it, if you pay close attention to the streams, you'll notice @beleka used the same tactic all the time. Other than that, was more aggressive and tried to attack more, while @beleka didn't leave his spot. TOF Solo Hammer's Conclusion In this category, there was a player who was in the next level, this player is who has shown you don't have to be a big name in eSports in order to win eSports tournaments! We have also seen players like @beleka & @GGWP who didn't disappoint us and played well. Congratulations! TOF Tandem: A category made for Two players. There were no limitations in registering to the tournament, every Tandem that met the requirements could register. Matches were held in 2 vs 2 format with smart supplies enabled. All turrets were allowed (except Isida and Magnum), all hulls (except heavy hulls), all modules (excluding unique ones) and all drones. Battle settings: TOF Tandem's progress: The first stage started with 128 registered teams. In the first stage, a team that lost a match was immediately eliminated from the tournament while the winner progressed to the next match. Each match consisted of 4 rounds which were played in 1 map, the winner of each round was the player who captured more flags, the winner of the match was the player who won the higher number of rounds. The second stage started with 18 teams left in the tournament. The system in the Playoffs worked in the following way: a teams that lost a match was moved into the lower bracket, a team that lost in the lower bracket is immediately eliminated from the tournament. Semi-finals (upper bracket) As always, there are 2 semi-finals in the upper bracket, both matches took place on the 27th of September. The first match was between Team Shashlindos (@GGWP & ) and Team Internity (member=Odd & . The match had 4 rounds in 1 map. Team Shashilindos has beaten Team Internity with the result of 3:1. The second match was between the winning team of last year - Team Losers (@Makxxe & @avetismergelyan2) and Team Soon (member=beleka] & @CTpeJloK_90-x. The match had 4 rounds in 1 map + a tiebreaker round. The match was indeed close, but Team Losers has won with the result of 3:2. Both teams played really well, there was a good team work, but Team Soon lost control in the last round while Team Losers stayed calm and managed to overcome them. Final (upper bracket) Team Losers (@Makxxe & @avetismergelyan2) played against Team Shashlindos (@GGWP & ) on the 1st of October. The match had 6 rounds. It's been a very long match but in the end, Team Losers has managed to beat Team Shashlindos. For me, it seemed like Team Shashlindos were not coordinated, they have made mistakes which were caused by bad communication, Team Losers showed a good teamwork once again. Semi-finals (lower bracket) A match between 2 teams which were eliminated to the lower bracket before - Team Internity (member=Odd & and Team Soon (member=beleka] & @CTpeJloK_90-x. The match was held on the 3rd of October, the match had 6 rounds. After a nice match from both teams, Team Soon won with the result of 3:1. Team Soon had a good game, they picked the right turrets for the right moments! Final (lower bracket) One of the greatest matches of the whole tournament where Team Soon (member=beleka] & @CTpeJloK_90-x) played against Team Shashlindos (@GGWP & ), on the 4th of October. The match had 6 rounds and 1 tiebreaker round. In the beginning, Team Soon dominated the match, after the 4th round Team Soon were leading 3:1. But just then, Team Shashlindos somehow started playing way better, they managed to win the 2 last rounds and tie the result to 3:3. The teams went to play a tiebreaker round where, surprisingly, Team Shashlindos has beaten Team Soon with an unbelievable comeback! During the match, Team Shashlindos Overcome their main problem, the communication. Team Soon played really well too, but sometimes just life happens. Grand-final The last match of the whole tournament, where Team Losers (@Makxxe & & @avetismergelyan2) played against Team Shashlindos (@GGWP & ). The match took place on the 5th of September, the match had 6 rounds. After Team Shashlindos's last match, I wasn't surprised at all when they have became the champions of TOF Tandem! Team Shashlindos had no problem to overcome Team Losers, they match ended with the result of 3:1 for Team Shashlindos TOF Tandem's Conclusion We have seen many great teams in the tournament, some of them are veterans like Team Losers, who won TOF Tandem in 2017, and some of them are new, like Team Soon. We could also see veteran players teaming up together like Team Shashlindos. I honestly think that Team Losers did well at the grand-final, but Team Shashlindos arrived more trained and ready to win! TOF is finally over! Thanks to everyone who have read this article, I put a lot of effort into this one.

  18. It's way easier to win in the red base than in blue base in ASL. I wouldn't use shaft to earn stars. in maps like Highways most of the players would use shaft and other long-range turrets, so let's say it's you play CTF, capturing flags will be hard. in TDM, players from losing team will leave the map once they realize they don't have big chances of winning. and in Rugby format, the same problem as in CTF, it will be difficult to score goals. As for DM & Juggernaut, it's fine to play with if you are skilled with shaft, but other shafts may be a big problem for you. Thank you for the feedbacks by the way, and it would be nice if you will merge all your quotes into 1 quote in the next time.

    Thanks everyone! :)
  21. May be, but still not many players use shaft, so your advice applies for specific players who actually like using shaft.
  22. You are the only one who noticed to this little thing in this picture. But if that bothers you that much, I will replace the picture EDIT: I've changed the picture, I hope you will enjoy reading. :)
