You need to handle this situation carefully. If you mess it up, your mom will probably end up disliking the poor girl even though it's not her mistake. Discuss this with you mom. Tell her how you feel about the girl. Tell her that it's genuine and you're not doing this just as a 'time-pass' activity. Promise her that it won't affect other aspects of your life, like academics. Basically, try to convince her that you are genuinely interested in the girl and mature enough to not do anything stupid. P.S. If your mom doesn't seem to agree at first, do not lose your temper and argue with her. That'll just make things worse. Bring the girl home or something and make your mom believe that she is, too, genuinely interested in you.

You need to read body language. She'll definitely give some signs if she's interested. When you're talking with her, she'll listen keenly, laugh at your jokes( even if they are stupid), etc.
