Today, I bring you a conversation between someone the reporter team values and respects; one of our administrators, its conanthedestroyer. Player Profile Game Name: conanthedestroyer Nickname(s): Conan Age: 44 Country: USA Preferred Combo(s): Hornet, Smoky, Prodigi Viking: Hey, Conan! How are you? Conan: I am doing well, thank you for the honor of interviewing me. So, to give the readers the basic idea of your life, can you tell us a bit about yourself? Sure, I am 44 years old and have been married for 19 years now. I have a 13 year old son who also occasionally plays TO, his nickname is "sonofconandestroyer". I have been a school teacher, I teach science to 13-15 year old kids, for the last 20 years. I live in the central part of the state of Maine, USA, in a small town of around 1100 people. I enjoy sports. I played basketball and baseball at the college level and now I am a college baseball umpire and high school basketball referee. My family and I enjoy outdoor activities such as mountain climbing and fishing in the summer time, and snowshoeing in the winter. We also like to go for Jeep rides to the beach (I just bought a 1992 Jeep Wrangler and love driving around with the top off). Many peoples game names reflect themselves, does yours? How did you come up with your nick? It was my school students who first introduced me to Tanki - we would play against each other during free time at school. I wanted to pick a name that sounded original, yet intimidating and strike fear in my students. Conan the Destroyer (the Arnold version), was one of my favorite movies as a kid (I have also read many of the Conan books) and the nick just seemed to make sense. Conan took on any challenge and always came out of each battle alive, destroying all of his enemies. Unfortunately that doesn't happen for me on the battle field, but I think over the years of playing, I have a reputation as a good player. How has raising a child changed you, over the past 13 years? What is the most fulfilling part of the parenting aspect, in your eyes? It certainly has had a maturing effect!! I don't go out and party like I used to (although maybe once in a while still ;)). Jay enjoys playing sports (football, basketball and baseball) and that is a common interest for us. We will often go out in the back yard and have a catch or shoot some hoops. I don't pressure him into anything, he plays because he likes to. The most rewarding aspect of being a parent is the time we get to spend together. I know that sounds corny and cliche, but he is the best friend I have and I look forward to that continuing for the rest of our lives. Seeing him develop into a quality man is very important to me as well. His mother has done a great job B) How can you describe the small town life? The good and the bad of it? As I said earlier, I live in a small town in Central Maine. It is the kind of place where when you go to the country store, you know just about everyone in there by name. I like the pace of living, no one is ever in a hurry, no traffic jams. Living in the country as we do, our nearest neighbor is a half mile away, we see deer, moose and even a black bear or two in our yard. (We own around 300 acres, so it is very private.) Outdoor activities are a big part of our life. Me and the boy do a lot of bass fishing together, as well as a lot of hiking, camping and hunting. We have a four wheeler each and go trail riding, or drive to a remote fishing hole. The bad of it would be the lack of fine culture and other experiences for Jay. I like going to concerts, and until the last year or so, I would have to drive 2 hours to get to the "city". We don't get to a lot of museums, or theater or fine restaurants. Boston is the closest big city, and that is just over four hours drive. Who/What inspired you to become a school teacher? My sophomore Biology teacher was a great guy. He showed an interest in us as more than students, he treated us as young adults. I appreciated that, and thought "I would like to have that kind of influence on people too." So I became a science teacher. I like being around kids, being a part of their development and lives. I just hope that along the way, I have made a difference to someone. If you think about it, I have been in school now for going on 40 years now. WOW. And I keep learning new things everyday. (Besides, it is tough to beat 15 weeks of vacation a year!) Is there anything specifically you want students to learn from you? That is a great question. I see myself as more than just a science teacher. I think that teaching science is a secondary part of my job description. For many of the kids I have had in school over the years, I am the only positive male influence in their lives. I try to lead by example for them: to be a man of character, have a solid work ethic and strive to improve myself. Every day, my class starts off with writing the Though of the Day - a quote used to elicit thought among the students. One example of this is "no one can make you feel inferior without your consent." I have students who come up to me after 5, 10 years and tell me they still have their TOD notebook. That means something to me, that I did something right for that student. It is why I teach. There are a couple of former students who still play Tanki, and I think they will agree with what I try to be as a teacher. I am tough, I expect a lot out of my students, I firmly believe that high expectations will yield high results. They might not appreciate it at the time, but as they get older, they develop an understanding of what we were trying to accomplish. And by establishing trust and the sense that I care about them, we actually learn about science too. )) How did sports at the college level go for you? Any advice to aspiring high school who aim/get that far? Sports, at any level teaches many things - time management, responsibility, composure and many other life lessons. The two things I learned most, that have stayed with me for life, are leadership and work ethic. These are the two traits I try to reinforce the most with my son, to work harder than anyone, and lead by example. Playing college basketball, I was a role player. I wasn't the best offensive player, I didn't score the most points. But I did play the best defense, I did rebound, I did what ever the team needed to be successful and played more minutes than anyone else. For that I was respected by my teammates, being named Captain as a senior. I learned that you do what ever you can for the greater good, to make sacrifices. My advice to players trying to get that level: work. Practice, train, get the most out your natural abilities. There is no substitute for being the toughest, the hardest worker. Those players will always have a spot on the team, will always be respected by players and coaches alike. Mix that with talent, and you will play. You've been a reporter administrator for a long time, what part of the job do you like most? I like seeing the progress this "paper" has made. We have come a long way, had many quality people contribute over the 2+ years. I have enjoyed the online relationships I have made with many of the reporters. People that I am sure if I met in real life, we would be instant friends. One of the things I would like to do, (if I ever had enough money, which as a teacher, I may never have) is to travel and meet these people I work with, to sit in the same room with them and talk, or play Tanki. I would like that. I have enjoyed being the administrator. There have been times when I disagree with decisions made by my superiors, and I am sure I have been a thorn in their side, but I wouldn't trade any of those conversations for anything. I enjoy what I do, and look forward to many more years of service to the English Community. To finish, do you have any words for the community? Surprisingly, I do. I would like to see a change in the way certain aspects of the game are played. Specifically, the etiquette of the game. Things like, waiting for full teams before grabbing flags, when someone has their turret pointed to a wall and are not playing, move on, don't shoot. Overall, the level of play has gotten very good, there are many great players out there. Play the game the right way while always striving to make yourself better. Many players ask what to buy on their next purchase, like when deciding between two things. This isn't a bad thing, but sometimes players have a broad selection of things they want and are unable decide, or are able to make the decision themselves, but they don't know it. With this article, I aim to correct both of those situations. Again, it's my way, you don't have to follow it as it is. Before we get into the specifics, like if you're purchasing a Turret or a Hull, we have to have a general idea of what we can purchase. I have three things I question when I'm getting ready to purchase something: Crystals, Sales, and Necessities. Crystals The most obvious detail that has to be taken into account when purchasing something is how many crystals you have. I always advise players to spend them carefully, regardless of how you attain them. If you don't have enough for something, you can't get it. Simple. So, you have to work harder to get the amount you need, which isn't a hard concept. Saving up is also key; you can't purchase little things along the way to the big item, it will take you forever. The best thing you can save up for is a sale period. Sales Many times I wait until I hear a good sale is coming before I even consider my next purchase, but knowing what you have in mind is also a good idea when saving up for them. If you didn't get the sale you were waiting for, its okay, just wait for it to come along, as it will eventually. Even if you save up enough to purchase something without a sale, I still advise to wait. Then when the sale comes along, you may have enough crystals for something extra; this allows buyers to get the most bang for their buck, and non-buyers the most out of their hard work. Necessities You have to have decent equipment that is efficient for your rank, possibly with a good paint. That should be the “main base” you should work to upgrade as you move up the ranks; and if your crystal income is big enough for a little extra, then more power to you. Also, you should always consider the item you may be looking at, and ask yourself: Do I need this item? Will it help me in the game? Purchasing something you don't really need is a waste of crystals, which nobody should enjoy enduring. Now that we've established a thought process of sorts to use while making the decision, we can get into the specifics, in the case of Equipment, Paints, Supplies, and Micro-Upgrades. Equipment (Turrets & Hulls) Your main base is essential and the choices you make for it are as well. Putting your equipment first is the best thing you can do for your base; getting the next upgrade for both turret and hull, when they become available, is ideal. For those that use several different turrets and hulls, upgrade your best combination of them first. Paints The coloration of the tank is a part of your base, but it can be tricky to time when you need a better one. Sometimes you fall behind with the effectiveness of your paint as you keep upgrading the components of your base. The decision on whether or not to go for a paint falls heavily on the necessity of a new one. The even harder part is deciding which one will be sufficient for you and your base, in terms of protection. Like with your wish list of items, you have to narrow down which weapons you face a lot and have a great hatred for: you can sort that out yourself. Supplies “Drugs”, as they're quite commonly called, are the supplements for your base and can come in handy. I don't recommend buying supplies, as you receive them as daily gifts, all you have to do is save them up. When you do purchase them, do it in bulk, with the 100 and 1000 supply kits, they are a good deal. Micro-Upgrades Slight changes to your base can mean the difference between you getting a kill, surviving your opponents wrath, or succumbing to them. Though, these minute changes aren't completely necessary, and should be the least concern while being busy with the upkeep of your base. I may be a bit old school because I recommend waiting till you're in the higher ranks to start micro-upgrading, like on M3 equipment and expensive paints. Then, once your base is at its best, you can make it even better. Opinions It is a good idea to ask a player who has experience or uses the particular item that you're looking to purchase, but choose who you ask and what advice you take wisely. Some players base their advice on bad experiences and not the good. Some may not even know what they're talking about, however, you should be able to find someone who does. So these are things you should take into consideration prior to purchase, but with caution. I hope this helped you in your decision making process. If you've gone through this while deciding between two different things as your next purchase, you may have found your answer after this read. Great novelty map! I like it. I do think you could spice up the area around the chess board in the middle, which I believe will make the map cooler. As someone who creates maps, its hard to tell how the map will be without actual game play. I have the feeling the cliff walls are a bit much and that long range weapons like Railgun will have a hay day. Just my opinion.

Moderators are not able to be everywhere at once and are mainly keep the chats clean. In the most recent V-LOG, Semyon explains this issue with the vote command and the effectiveness of it in correlation with moderators, and also explains their solution. Also, the placement of this complaint isn't the best; You should talk with a Chat Administrator (via PM) about this kind of situation and express your feelings to him/her.

This topic will describe who to contact and how to get the information you're looking for, whether it be a ban or block.

A few things from the list said above may help to reduce the lag during the event of a goldbox drop, like playing in fullscreen, closing out applications that use network bandwidth, or increasing FPS.

Many of us complain about there not being any good battles; however, with 50 servers, it's hard to justify the statement when there is such variety. Perhaps the problem is your choice of battle, which I will attempt to fine-tune with this guide on how to find the right one. This is my way of doing it and it is not absolutely necessary to follow the steps in the order I list them. There are various specifications to battles, most of which need to be taken into consideration before entering. Before this can be done, you have to know what you’re looking for. This can be decided by picking out various specifications below; but before you read ahead, think of a particular combo you want to use and keep it in your head as you read. I’ve split up the specifications into categories listed in order of importance, labeled (from most to least significant) under Primary, Secondary, and Miscellaneous. Primary The following are the things you should look at first and look at carefully. They are also the most obvious in which you probably already take into consideration; but don’t worry, I’ll give you a few tips. Map The arena in which you enjoy the game is the first thing you look at, right? Certainly one of the first things you think about, at least. Well, it is the basis on which all other factors are examined, including the combo you chose prior to looking for a battle. You don’t want to go to an Island match with Railgun and Wasp and expect to do anything in the map, which is dominated by Medium to Heavy tanks and short range weapons, such as Freeze. Lets say this Freeze/Mammoth player is looking to go to different map with the combo; he's not going to be much help in Kungur. When choosing the right map, firstly, think of your combo and if it is compatible with the map you’re looking to join. Second, choose maps in which you have the most knowledge and experience in to optimize the productivity and enjoyment of the match. Also, if you ever join maps you’re not familiar with, get your bearing; stay productive while exploring the map. And if you ever come across a map you’ve never been in and want to join, you would be better off creating a private battle of the map to check it out prior to entering the real thing. PRO Battle, or no? This is another obvious parameter that depends on the preference of purchase; would you rather purchase supplies or a PRO Pass. Of course you could do both, but when it comes down to finding the right battle, you either have the possibility of supplies being restricted or have freedom to enable them. Depending on the specifications of the PRO battle (which I will go into depth with later), it should minimally affect the choice to join it. It is either a PRO battle, or it is not. This of course can be considered a generalization but because it is a main factor; it can’t be overlooked. If you feel it is unfair that you have to pay for PRO Battles, think about how unfair it would be to those that purchase supplies regularly if you didn’t have to pay. The price you have to pay is minute compared to what they have to pay for a “Supplies” kit, even more so with the “Lots of Supplies.” Also, I wouldn’t personally recommend paying the 500 crystals for a single PRO battle unless you rarely play them. If you have a sizable monthly crystal income and play a decent amount of PRO battles, get the pass; you can join any battle from the list and can afford some losses. The price of the pass is equivalent to 10 PRO battles. And if you’re from the ”No-Supply battle” days, make sure you check to see if supplies is enabled, as its successor isn’t the same; I’ve overlooked that detail a few times. Flag Limit / Kills / Points / Timer Joining a battle as it's about to end due to any of the reasons (that are in no particular order) in the bolded title for this segment is rather unwise; unless you’re worried about not being able to get a spot in the battle after its completion, which is understandable in some cases. These are things that can determine how long the battle will continue or how long you have to assure yourself a win. If there is a flag count (for Capture the Flag modes) of 37 and no time limit, you may be in for a long fight if the opposition is mounting a decent team. For a 99 kill Deathmatch, it may take about 20 minutes at least; in the case of a Team Deathmatch, slightly shorter. In Control Points, the goal of 100 would take about 20 minutes to complete, as well. And the final factor that is either accompanied by any one of the game modes or by itself is the time. 15 minutes being what its pre-set to any battle creation, it is rare to see a battle with such length, though could warrant interesting gameplay. The bottom line: don’t join anything you won’t be able to finish. You may get the enjoyment in the match but not get anything for it if you exit early. Players in the match This may be more significant for the smaller ranked players, but can apply to the higher ranked, if you look at it from the opposite direction in which I will describe. If you’re looking to join a team-oriented battle, from say a Major’s point of view, you might want to be looking to join the stronger team, based on the amount of higher ranks; however, a DM may not be the best choice to join if the majority of of the players are higher ranked, unless you’re feeling confident. Go for it. Now, contrary to what I said in my example: Ranks are deceiving. Just because they have a nice shiny, higher rank doesn’t mean they have the equipment or skill behind it to make a profound effect on the outcome. So sure, the ranks of players can hint at the quality of a team, but remember, there are the “prodigies” that have become expertly versed at a lower rank or veterans on their noob accounts. You should also be mindful of players scores. If a the leading team has a number of players at 0 it could signify them losing their grip, it being a mult (if you have reason to believe), or a player that just took a quitters spot. Gamemode Four different variations of battle offers plenty of opportunity for success. DM and CTF being the most common; from these two, you should be comfortable with at least playing one of them, especially if you particularly like the less common TDM or CP. But if you like both, thats still good; means you won’t have as hard of a time finding a battle. To be a bit more specific on being comfortable with the game mode, you have to fit in to a particular role, or “groove,” if you will. You could be, for example, in a Kungur CTF using Shaft to snipe off the oncoming enemy as a defensive role. Or, in a Desert DM with Railgun, shooting from either end of the map at spawning tanks and any challengers. So it comes down to being productive in the particular game mode; and your job to figure that out with your equipment / skill set. Secondary The following are some things you should pay attention to but not be too horribly concerned about. Supplies or No-Supplies A deciding factor can be whether or not you want to / are able to use supplies constantly. Although its a big one, I keep it as a secondary because everyone is not always constantly using them in normal supply matches. Unless you stumble upon a “drug war” and get caught off guard if you you’re not able to retaliate with supplies, drug wars can usually be identified after the first couple minutes of being in the battle. And if a drug war seems to be breaking out, it may mean you’re being taken over, in team battles. In a normal match with supplies, don’t feel like you have to use supplies if everyone else is. Your team would definitely appreciate it and you’ll get a lot further along in Deathmatches. As long as you’re actively trying to help your team, you can’t be kicked or banned because you’re not using supplies. Bonus Drops A gift of this sort from the skies should be used and used well. The majority of battles have this enabled, so you shouldn't have to worry about not finding a First Aid when you need it most. Though, don’t be hesitant to go into a battle where supplies don’t drop from the sky, you may be surprised at just how fun the game can be without them. Micro-Upgrades The ever so slight advantages and mean the difference between getting the kill or not; however, if you don’t have many things MU’ed, then you might want to stay away from battles with them enabled. Although they are disabled in PRO battles, it is still worth the price to make sure those slight advantages aren’t shown at an unexpected time. If you have a large amount of item parameters microupgraded, then go tear them up. Changing Weapons One of the best additions to the game, in many eyes. The ability to change during battle is commonly enabled. This is always a good thing, especially when the opposition is changing, you have abide by those changes and adjust to better combat it. So, this is definitely a deciding factor in whether or not you should enter a battle. Miscellaneous Lastly, these are what you should be minimally concerned about when deciding on a battle. Crystal Drops Another gift from the skies, though a less important one. If you finish a decent lengthed battle, you will have gotten A LOT more crystals than you would would going around taking crystal boxes. This shouldn’t be a deciding factor; though if it is, make sure it is not the only thing on your mind. You could get flagged as a mult for only going for the crystals. Autobalance Restricting the amount of player that can join one team per the amount that are in the other is necessary, in most cases. Clans or groups of players like to be able to join a battle all at one time to stand their ground and try to prevent random players from joining their team. It shouldn’t be too big of a deal, unless you fear the opposition could grow in numbers rapidly. If so, you should take a glance before entering. Friendly Fire The unfortunate harming of your own teammates, whether it be an accident or on purpose, is a nuisance to all. This specification is more often than not, disabled. But the short ranged weapons (except Isida) especially, should be wary about the possibility of damaging their opponent and teammate at the same time. Same may go for the longer ranged weapons like Thunder, Railgun and Shaft. Battle Name We all like a challenge once and a while, don’t we? Well I do, especially when the battle name taunts you to enter. This rarely influences the joining of a battle, unless it is labeled XP/BP in which you should join only if you plan to use Hornet and Railgun or Wasp and Railgun. I hope this helped and again, you don't have to do these in the order of importance or specifications. You could look at a battle in the order of Miscellaneous, Secondary, and Primary, if you like. Our first interviewee is one that is regarded highly by few, but still low by many. I do favor speed over durability, so I’m often in Hornet with Rico or Smoky.” Viking: Greetings MadDog21, I hope all is well for you. MadDog: Thank you. Returns. Every day is fine. All it takes is deciding it will be. :) To start this off, could you tell the readers and I about yourself; maybe to someone who has never met you? I’m a man, not a boy. I’ve filled life richly, and i do it still. I’ve been a sales person, radio newsman, disc jockey, gunship pilot, high school educator and more. I’m retired presently. I’m Christian though hardly pure. I was a MOD and a very good one. Tanki’s loss that I’m no longer moderating, but Tanki and I disagree on critical aspects of the job. Being the famous player you are, could you explain the significance of your nickname? One in which many recognize. I’ve tended to demure at “famous” in a net game. It’s a diversion, and entertainment. Fame here amounts to little. The nick comes from my call sign when I flew helicopter gunships in Vietnam. I flew with the 240th AHC, Greyhounds (Lift ships.) and Mad Dogs (Gun platoon.). How cool! I can imagine hearing your nickname said over radio. With the intelligence you exhibit, what did you major in? What did you do with those majors? Majors in Speech/Theatre, Radio & Televsion Broadcasting and English. I taught, wrote, did a film, worked radio and much more. You seem to have had a fun filled career, and several at that. As a veteran and experienced educator, whats an important you've learned? Perhaps one you taught to your students? Far too much to simplify. Regarding Tanki, respect others. That shows in multiple ways. Language, grace, loyalty, integrity and much more as I noted. What was your role in Vietnam? I was a gunship aircraft commander and a fire team lead. I also was the officer in charge of a security platoon at Pho Loi’s base camp for the 11th CAB portion of the perimeter, 11 bunkers. Who has been the most important person in your life? Far more than one. Jesus Christ, and that’s not a cop out. What period of your life do you believe was the best? The worst? War was both best and worst. I loved education, so my university and teaching time were bests, not without challenging times, but great overall. If you could speak with an old friend or influential person in your life, dead or alive (but not a celebrity), who would it be and why? I do speak with some in my prayers. My heritage is Germanic, folks not known for the demonstrative natures. I’d tell my favorite uncle, my grandparents and several deceased Mates how greatly I loved them and how significantly they’ve impacted my life. Love and thanks, a good mix. To my knowledge, you have a distaste for quitters, those that leave battles prematurely; What is your view of them and what would to tell them to possibly convince them into staying? I loath quitters in any venue of life unless they learn they’ve really chosen a poor course. In Tanki, quitters give up too easily. They’re nothing but profiteers ho, if they think the cause is lost such that they’ll not get rewards, quite on their team. Unless I’m left with nearly no teammates, I don’t quit. People of character, integrity and honor don’t quit, but those characteristics are sorely lacking in Tanki at large. It’s dishonorable in life. Why should it be less so in game play? With that, do you have anything else to say? To your friends, readers, and haters? I don’t expect to affect any with my words. My play represents me suitably. Honorable players see that. The others can go pound sand. I don’t tolerate fools, and, due to age in part, Tanki has many of those. My friends know who they are, and they know me. Games rarely build character as most coaches will say to inspire players. One certainty is that games reveal character or the lack of it. One phenomenon of note is the safe distance of the internet that insulates rude twits from those who, in face time, would harshly correct and remediate. This isn’t exclusive to Tanki or other games. It’s epidemic to the net. Cowards nestle behind their monitors throwing insults, offensives and profanities they’d never do in face time. Remember? REVEALS, not builds, character. Blessings. If I'm not mistaken, there should be a one day pro battle pass given as a daily gift? (idk because I buy the pass) as there was one back when it was just no supplies. That should at least spark some curiosity. The good old days. Even though the MU's make the game more interesting, PRO battles are your way out of the unexpected advantages of your opponent. Think of the druggers that stock up on supplies and the crystals they have to spend. Its only fair you have to pay to stay away from them right? And you would save a considerable amount of crystals buying the pass and not have to purchase more supplies every time you run low.
