Half the maps it dumps you in are tiny or medium.

Name one "tiny" map in the MM rotation. The only maps in the battle list where Shaft is at a disadvantage are maybe Iran and maybe Red Alert. Everywhere else is does fine. You don't need a map like Highways to play well with Shaft.

I agree, Shaft is not the one-sided camper sniper that many remember. The arcade shots can do so much damage aswell.

The heavy capacitors alt makes Shaft seriously effective in those long range maps.

I often use it without especially now that MM is here. I was suprised about the results I could get in medium maps. Particularly on Barda in those bushes on the blue base.. paired with mouse controls; you can make kill after kill without being noticed.

Can someone tell me what role a shaft typically plays in a battle? Sitting and building a good d/l does not count, as the enemy simply respawns

Area denial

Picking off high value targets (flag carriers, player on full supplies, Isidas, etc)

Supporting teammates in brawls

It is 1 out of 3 long range turrets after all, make use of the range

Arcade shots deal about as much damage as a Smoky shot, pop in a DD and start stealing kills. Here's my first battle with Shaft M3, only used arcade shots (no alteration)

I'd start with viking...good speed, low profile, decent hp...

On bigger boards like Highways, I prefer titan...lots of health, fairly decent speed to snag the drops...

Just my thoughts. Also practice those arcade shots...they will get you lots of kills! Promise

don't be silly.. there's no point being fast if you can't turn your turret quickly and have to remain still to charge up.

but if you really want a light hull then get wasp.

Sadly my screenshots are too big but I have been maining shaft in this acc for about 1 year

I use the Arcade alt and play offense in medium, small maps

my first screenshot was of a 30 flag game, I captured 13 of those flags
262 kills, 182 deaths

My point is, in the right hands Shaft is the absolute deadliest turret.
The enemy team consisted of:
Smoky M2
Firebird M3
Rail M2
Freeze M2

edit: this was in sandbox

You dont need speed to use Shaft well, stick with medium or heavy hulls.

Viking is best tbh

Oh ,ok i will get Wasp,Hunter & Viking for my Shfaft acc

Sorry for my bad english - I use GT. Viking is bad for a shaft because of u need to swing forward-backward shooting in arcade-mode. So hunter is better. Also wasp is better than hornet

GT ?

I agree that Hunter sits more higher but for Sniping we need to sit low

shafts for lower ranks are really effective for one shoting. And unlike what most people say its even effective in CTF! Where master shafters can destroy opponents just as a team flag carrier goes in. Although not many people do that.

Absolutely any role you prefer. But experienced shafters play mid field role in CTF usually - means that they kill flag protective freeze/hammer/isida, so teammate can get the flag and then cover while teammate returns with the flag. Note - due to shaft shot punch power, you don't need to kill enemy, can simply shoot left or right track, to end his driving momentum, therefore help flag carrier to get distance.

Shaft is also extremely good of returning flag as you can 1 shot med hull even when they have DA active.

Freeze + shaft flag protection is deadly aswell, if enemy gets the flag, freeze will get him frozen and shaft will finish off.
