You fire shots at slower rate and with not much difference in damage, so concerning arcade shots you are better of using the stock version. Sniping might seem as a pro, but you rarely shoot your snipe-shot at the very beginning of charging - that saying, you do want to fire a decently/fully charged shot - so you really arent gaining much benefits with that either.

Given I'm likely dead after getting one arcade shot off with either given I need to be on top of my target now, I'm not that bothered about any arcade impact. It's now better to super quick scope which this helps with if I don't have LC. As I said, no reason to not use it over stock if you don't have something else you want to use.

I guess we have our own view on this augment, which I do not mind at all. Since you already got SBE from a container, let me formulate it in another way: would you buy this augment from the garage, or would you stick with the Stock-version?

Oh, I'd never buy it, not worth it. Then again, I could say that about an awful lot of augments.

I couldn't understand people saying SBE is now pointless - it seems to still have a niche to me, largely the same one it had before.

You... quitted the game?

Nope, in fact was waiting to do my rank up.  I did, this past weekend.  I'm back.  (sort of, busy, but back).

And uh btw, have you NOT SEEN all my posts in Ideas For Maps?  I've been doing some heavy map making lately.

PSA for Shaft from ye old vets

  1. For those sniping with any Shaft alt other than LCs, and especially for HCs / RFM: Tap "P" once* and let go of the spacebar at the same time to cancel sniping mode, retain your current energy gauge, and avoid alerting the enemy that you have fired. Hard to master since Shaft recharges so fast anyway, but it can make the difference between a dead flagbearer / extra kill / point defense and failure.
  2. Use SBE over LC if you want to quickscope but still want the potential to kill medium hulls in one-shot, or can't afford to let the target use RK
  3. While I hate RFM hit-and-run style, it is still 10x more reliable at doing Duplet's job

*Only works on flash version

Wow, I never knew about this. I assume it works both on Flash and HTML5?

No. Only flash. In html, it shoots the shot

HTML5 has a reworked pause menu; pressing pause opens a GUI that soft-removes you from controls and immediately fires the shot. So no, only on Flash

+1 to Flash master race

In my experience, just pausing would do, no need to time your spacebar along with it

It's to make sure you don't re-enter sniping mode the moment you use WASD to move, which exits pause mode. In any case, let go of Space after you pause and before you move

Three quick questions for shaft users:

1) Which hull do you all prefer to mount shaft onto?

2) What augment(s) do you have for shaft and hull you prefer?

3) Why do you prefer that set up? In other words, what are the strengths and weaknesses (if any) of your preferred set up?

Thanks ahead of time:)

1) Hornet. And maybe Dictator, because I can abuse that free supplies and giving teammates OD charge boost.

2) Augment hm.... in matchmaking, I use HC to conserve my DP (I don't use manual supplies as much I used to be except SB) and Brutus (did used 37 battery to test it out) to increase it potential further. But in Pro-Battle Polygon CP, I use LC instead because of opponent tanks are constantly on fire. I don't use SBE as much as I used to now.....

3)  Chunk it down:

  • Strength: Agile (making it fast paced), OD can completely bypass all type of defence (until it gets a nerf). Not to mentioned that I used Hornet even before its OD came out.
  • Weakness: Of course, Hornet are not camping hull, as 2K HP and low weight means getting ambushed quite easily. Especially Shaft's seige mode that render me sitting duck for couple seconds (even when using LC). Not like Railgun, you can deal massive damage per shot while being completely mobile.

You should also add what modules do Shaft users prefer as well.

I didn't own a Dictator till I came back recently. Am almost at m8 Dictator now (, but have been incredibly happy with sniping angles from the Dictator. I have made lots of kills from vantage points no other hull could achieve.

On a side note, I went hunting the other day with Shaft/Hornet and the LC augment...it was a wrecking ball for sure when the OD was employed...can one shot every tank with DD activated...don't even have to fully scope for light and medium hulls either.

I prefer Hunter, Titan or Mammoth for comfort. Hornet for the Overdrive and mobility.

I would alternate between Stock Shaft, Short-band Emitters and Light Capacitors. They all pair well with my Hunter and Hornet but I'd usually use Hunter more than Hornet with SBE.

My preferred setup on PC is Light Capacitors + Hornet. It's mobile, allows me to get within my comfort range of the enemy quickly and the Overdrive increases my survivability since LC specialises in quickscopes.

The strength is in the Overdrive allowing you to be very efficient in 1 v 1 engagements and partially covers one of Shaft's weaknesses - melee range combat.

The weakness is that it contains a light hull which has very limited survivability when DA is not active. Its light weight coupled with its tendency to drift when steering make it a preferred target for high-impact force turrets.

My preferred setup on TO Mobile is Hunter + SBE or Heavy Capacitors. I don't use Light Capacitors there because it usually takes me more than 3 seconds to properly aim at a target, especially one that is in motion far away. I'm way less efficient using Hornet Shaft on Mobile than on PC.

The only advantage I have there is being able to see all around me while I'm in sniping mode. It's harder to aim in sniping mode and the auto-aim for the arcade shots aren't significant.

The disadvantage is a lack of mobility due to how Mobile controls are and I lose probably most of my engagements against enemy Shafts because it takes longer for me to aim at them than vice versa.

Is TO mobile on the iphone yet? Can't imagine how hard that would be to use.

Do you use the HTML5 or Flash based client on your PC? I have a horrible time on the HTML5 client with shaft...hence use Vulcan, Rico, Thunder...let importance on aiming quickly and precisely.

It's not available on IOS and won't be for some time. Check the latest V-Log for a bit more information on that.

I don't have access to a PC rn so I'm only on mobile for the while being. I only played Shaft on Flash. HTML5 made me miss too many shots and stopped me from killing flag carriers because of that thing that takes you out of sniping mode when an unmaterialised ally passes through you. Flash is for comfort but HTML5 allows me to see the projectiles of my Vulcan better, especially on winter maps.

Yes the HTML-thing that allows me to see enemies is like a cheat code for sure:) The jerky nature of tracking and sniping a moving enemy however forced me back to flash.
