Tank Operators Need Maps... It's Just Expected.

Recommended Posts

I haven't forgotten Dusseldorf, Polygon, Stadium, or Barda.....I got lost in every one of them.

Also, I like having an option to see where all my teammates are. That way, I can plan defense.

(This would help Clans, I'm sure.)

You could zoom out on the camera - this gives you a large view of the battlefield.

The problem with seeing everyone is their positions change constantly - it's not as if people get blown up and spawn right where they were sitting.

You really need a map for Stadium?

I would like to see all of my teammates while I'm in sniping mode. :P

I disagree.

It'll drastically change Tanki and multiple things and mechanics will have to be adapted. Plus, the "under-fire" thing would't work, as it is not AI but humans that'll be shooting. So, it's useless if, say, one plasma ball from twins hits your teammate and it immediately shows under-fire status, when actually the twins was aiming for someone else. Also, it'll hinder sneak attacks and show the location of concealed enemies as soon as they hit someone. Then, everyone trying to sneak and get the flag will try to not shoot any tanks, turning an arcade tank MMORPG into a stealth game.

Yes, I agree that Under-fire shouldn't be added.

And what about everything else?

Again, it'll destabilise the gameplay. Just too drastic of a change.

Also you get a saboteur on your team, looks at the map, and instantly the other team knows the location of everyone via chat.

:o

Of course, they would do that, wouldn't they?......

To start this off, I will say that I hope I am not being an ignorant guy who won't let go of a lost proposition. I hate when people hang on to an idea that has already been proved bad and I don't want to lose anymore reputation. (Not that I have much to lose. :D) However, I'm still not sure this is a bad idea, so bear with me. ;)

Thank you for raising some very valid points. I would like to know exactly how it will drastically change Tanki's mechanics and why multiple things will need adapted. As for the under fire thing, that could be cut or it could come on after a certain amount of life has been lost.

I never said that you would see the enemies. By an under fire 'thing,' I simply met a symbol or something that would show they were in conflict. Nothing more. So I am not sure how that would show the location of concealed enemies right away, unless the round could have only came from one direction (ie. your teammate was in an alley). I think a lot of your arguement comes from showing concealed enemies, but I'm not sure that would be a big problem. *Thinking* If you were actually close enough to be a big help, wouldn't you already be able to see them? Am I going loopy?

I'm not sure why someone would do that. And it would not be that simple, anyways. Typing the positions of 6 players simultaneously would get a little cumbersome, do you not agree? Plus, everyone from the saboteur's team could see, since the saboteur would have to type to everyone. I'm just not sure that would be a big problem. :)

So you think no one will notice if a guy at the back of the base randomly gets "under-fire"? That's what I'm talking about.

Also, answering your question, all the weapons and hulls will need to be tweaked to balance the game if this is accepted. e.g. It'll be easier for Shafters to know where to camp and where to aim.

I actually had thought of this idea myself, but never posted.  I don't think there should be underfire, and maybe not show teammates health, so that it isn't obvious they are being fired upon.  What I think, so it doesn't increase lag or hinder vision is that you press a button, say shift.  You look at the map and see where your teammates are.  Then you let go.  Somewhat like showing the battle scores with tab.  Therefore, you can't be looking all the time to investigate whether the other team is going after your flag.

Still, you won't know where it came from, and I already said that Under-fire shouldn't be added, it will just take away stealth, like you said.

A mini-map would be nice, especially for clan wars.

I usually play Mid-Fielder, so it'd be nice to to take a look at my mini-map, and see, hey! we only have 1 person defending! I gotta go help em!

Think i'll follow this topic.
