Blast radius parameters for thunder

Recommended Posts

Well since thunders main feature is it's splash damage, why don't we give it it's blast radius parameters that will slightly increase its blast radius, so in further detail, the more upgraded it is, the more likely that enemies about 9 or 10 or 15 feet or farther from the target will still get damaged, this might help thunder cope some what against short ranged guns

That would mean more self damage. A disaster for thunder user in close range.

Could be an alteration for Thunder. Advantage is you get a larger blast radius. Disadvantage - damage yourself more.

If you put it that way, in a mid-large map, then yea its a good alteration.

How can you damage your tank, if you're shooting from 20 meters (e.g.) at your enemies?

It will damage you in close range, which does happen rather often. But if it's not enough, then there can be another disadvantage to add to that, such as range reduction.

Larger blast radius can be handy for Thunder, but sometimes is rather pointless. Especially if you damage your tank more (self damage).

I have spent hundreds of hours playing with Thunder / Titan at Polygon. When some Twins / Mammoth (Titan) push you against a wall - you always lose. Because of self damage. And in that kind of situations having larger blast radius is really pointless. More self damage will cut you the misery, nothing more than that.

Speaking of Polygon, I too used Thunder quite a lot there and due to the amount of enemies you often see crowding around the point in CP mode, having an increased explosion radius would be a very useful feature for when you shoot into the middle from one of the higher camping spots. I know I would definitely buy such an alteration.

What you previously suggested, it is only useful for crowd around the point. So that "alteration" would be useful 50 - 50.

Speaking of Thunder, self destruct is one of the main reasons why I started using Vulcan, Twins and Smoky at the Polygon.

HAHA this will make any protection modules with thunder protection so OP! 26.2 - 12 = 14.2 so the protection is the same, but the user of thunder will being doing more damage to themselves!

Almost all Thunder players also use Thunder protection in their module.

Well, even if it's not 3-4 tanks, the alteration will still be useful for when you encounter more than one enemy together (e.g. an attacker with Isida behind him). And for battles with not many players you can just disable the alteration and use normal Thunder.

You have some point. But, one thing is certain - the team with 3 or 4 Isida's on the Polygon is unbeatable.

Declined

Well, in 2023, the situation is a lot different now, Upon the introduction of so many new augments, mainly Vacuum Shells and Adaptive reload, the OP's idea is somewhat compromised and also keeping in mind the current MU system. The MUs helps in increasing the base stats and the base damage, but the rest parameters are in the hands of different augments now.

If you want to be pedantic, his exact suggestion came into the game in 2022. Thunder's splash radius increases with modification, 8m at Mk1 and 12m at Mk7+.

You're right, thanks

The idea is marked as Complete.
