Well there's your problem, you're using that slippery paperweight thing

Oh yeah stupid me, Viking's the reason Gauss takes forever to lock onto anything.

Nothing at all to do with how crap Gauss is. dope-slap.gif

I'm locking on just fine with gauss M2, even head on with enemies, with the slippery slope viking is. On a 4 star rank account so I face high rank people. Maybe someone's gotta git gud with it?

I think you'll find your opponents are a little less lively than they are up here.

There wasn't a need to buy Gauss if you already had Thunder

In arcade mode, I agree with you.

I had planned to use sniper mode but in that it's actually more like Striker than Shaft.

gauss is good with hunter too, stun a group of enemies, use double damage and thats 4-5 kills right there

update: just got 7 kills with one charged shot when people were trying to grab a gold

I too could do 7 kills if enemies stayed still / stunned.

It's their moving around which bamboozles aim lock. Remedy = faster lock or slower enemies. :D

Yeah, it felt like a faster striker to me

That's my issue with it... it keeps resetting because it's difficult to reacquire the target within 1sec.

It could really have done with the scope view like sniper has.

And cut the time it takes to acquire lock.

Gauss does not have a laser, which is an advantage and a disadvantage at the same time. Gauss has the smallest upward auto-aim angle in the game, so locking onto enemies above you is going to take more effort than it is usually worth. Many times, you can be locking onto someone who is moving above you and then it will suddenly stop because it is out of the angle. You'd try to rock your hull but by that time, the reticle is already reset.

Gauss has the same recovery time as Striker, however, with Striker, it is easier to get back on track because you have a laser - you can see where the Striker is pointing at. In order to see where the Gauss is pointing at, you need to lower the camera angle to the lowest; that in itself is lowering your situational awareness because you wouldn't see someone coming towards you from the side. SO the best way is to rotate your turret until your reticle starts to fill again.

And the time it takes to lock onto an enemy is a lot less than Striker. M4 Striker takes 2.8 seconds to lock on while M4 Gauss takes 1.7 seconds. That is a big difference in time, but there is also a difference in damage.

I think Gauss needs a nerf but this is where it needs it...

...This is where Gauss needs a nerf- in its splash damage distribution. It's able to retain 90% of its damage from as far as 12 metres. For comparison, Magnum is able to retain 90% of its damage from as far as 6 metres which is half. If you're accustomed to playing with Magnum, when you play with gauss, you'd be hitting high damage where you think you should be hitting 50% damage.

A downside to this is that you think you may be safe when using the sniper shot up close but with that long average splash dmaage range, you'd die when you think you wouldn't.

I made sure to buy Owl protection (M1) today. It never felt more appropriate since the first battle I went in, there were 4 Gausses in the enemy team.

I think they should wait for them to be less widespread to nerf anything. The meta needs to shift to accommodate the new turret like it did for Vulcan, Magnum, etc before it. But I totally agree, Owl is needed to survive in the lower ranks especially.

I was having more issues on maps like Bridges, and in CTFs and CPs on maps like Sandbox and Magistral (?), I can't really blame it on the target's altitude, more that it's just..so..slow to lock on.

Conversely my first game with it on Tribute CP was great, and also on Skyscrapers CTF where the gameplay is a bit slower, but it went downhill from there.

On almost every other map I'd ditch it in favour of any other turret in my garage, even the M0 ones rather than this.

The only thing I really like about Gauss is that if you're trying to kill a heavy hull from a distance in sniper mode, you may not take out the heavy.

But you will take out any poor schmuck in a light hull near him.

It's a bit weird to see the hull you were aiming at survive, but then get a kill from a light hull you never even noticed was there.

Just got Gauss. It's... underwhelming. No doubt you could do better with a bit of skill, but it's counted as a waste for me. The arcade shots are not enough dmg, and the lock-on shots aren't good enough to be the primary method of killing.

It is disapointing, the shoot sound is weak, the design is weird, especially the fox ears.

Neither of which have anything to do with game play.

Locked on to someone in the blue base after they got zapped by an ally Hunter. I saw two red damage numbers but when I looked at the killfeed, I got a quadruple kill. +40% Overdrive charge on the spot.

Wow you got a like from an old folks. Kudos :)

Hey, I only liked it because he's right... the noise has nothing to do with gameplay.

I might agree with you on the flappy ears, but it's not even as if we get targeted for having them up.

I've noticed once you start wrecking the other team's attempts to grab the flag, they all come after you.... regardless of the ears.

Let's post some interesting pic of a boy with a nice tattoo on his belly, that will not cover perfectly the game play of Gauss.

Well, finally forked out the crystals on HBTY2, which is a mess, so doesn't really matter if I wasted them. I actually bought Gauss a bit ago, but haven't used it in MM. I tried it with Dictator and Hunter, and I actually really like Dictator's size with Gauss, as well as the free supplies you get ~3-4 times a game.

Here's my second battle ever with it:

2mgs5nd.png

Here's another battle which didn't go so well:

esn3x3.png

Finished tier 1!!!!! Lol. Anyways, it was 8v6 so we had a disadvantage, but this battle was notable because I didn't ever use any of my own drugs, I got - yes, I got 6 ODs. When I had the supplies activated it was easy to get the kills for the next OD, and I think I caught the nuclear box 3 times.

But anyways, I like it, some things like ASL it's not as good at. Perhaps it's just the maps, but I did these battles primarily lock-on, so I'm sure I'll gain some skill. But not bad for the first couple o' battles!
