What am I missing?

 Share

Recommended Posts

Started playing again after a 9 month hiatus. I hardly recognize the game now. After reading up on drones and Overdrives I feel like I have a clue on what is going on, but wow the game play is totally different now. It seems like it is almost impossible to go 30 seconds without being destroyed. Even lower ranks are taking me out in short order. Is that they way the game just is now? I would expect having M3-M4 equipment with ample supplies should allow me to at least have a 1:1 kill ratio, but that isn't the case. So it begs the question - What am I missing???

Do you pay the game? If no, you got no chance against buyers - even if you have great skills.

Let me explain it to you: I was also thinking like the important thing is your skills. But no mate, read careful about drones, almost half of the players in MM battles have M4 drones and an M4 drone is quite OP. For example, Assault Drone extends your supplies' usage time for 15 seconds once you get a kill. That's even one of the cheapest ones.

My suggestion to you is to play PRO battles, get enough crystals and buy everything. You will need almost 1000 hours for that, even tho I am not sure if you got enough time for that.

The perfect timing of the use of drones and overdrives.

I considered that, but I am getting throttled even by tankers without overdrives engaged or drones. It seems as though my usual combo of Viking and Thunder is useless since Thunder appears to be nerfed and Viking gets shredded easily. The Viking overdrive is nice, but happens maybe once or twice a match.

Do drones make that much of a difference?

The Booster drone does. At 20/20, it adds 200% to the damage you can do. Now add DD and the Hornet overdrive, when activated, STRIPS your opponents of their modules and DA for the duration of 20 seconds. At the same time, YOU can see the enemies' health bar. They will be at the mercy of your Thunder with absolutely no protection.

No, I dont pay. Not going to start. I have read that the common complaint is that buyers dominate and I wrote that off as whining. After doing a few matches it seems to line up with what you are saying. I have encountered too many tankers that don't even move their turret and destroy me even though I can maneuver like I never stopped playing.

I wondered if the game play had changed to benefit heavy tanks more or to just have higher kill rates in general. It appears that perhaps you are on point that it is purely pay to play now.

You know you could've just kept up with the forum, most importantly the news and announcements, especially if you were gonna take a 9 month long break from the game. That way you would've at least had an idea of what to expect.

It's better to take in a little bit at a time instead of all of it at once.

I don't know if you own any alteration for your m3s, but they will greatly heighten your battle prowess.

Viking thunder can do well, if you give up on going straight in the enemy faces, though pairing thunder with titan (That unfortunately you don't have) is a nice idea too, especially when you get sledgehammer (It seems to have no real drawbacks... I tried it on test server).

Hammer pretty much needs to use duplet, you could couple it with hornet to 2 shot every enemy during overdrive, assuming you can survive :P

I'm not too sure about ricochet, but the minus field stabilization is basically a necessity in most maps that MM will throw you in.

Do not rush in the game... Put yourself in a position where you can have time to strategize better, you have good weapons, though I personally dislike viking. Too floaty.

And in some matches, it's just too unbalanced to even try to keep a decent score/KD, being a complete and utter steamroll.

Doing the missions every day will give you a good supply of crystals, then you can easily go hang in pro battles if you don't care about the challenges.

Sure, but still they could at least just take a look at the news and announcements in their free time which takes like 5 minutes out of their day.

Yeah, no pay, no win.  You have returned to the Hazel idealized version of Tanki.  Everything is homogeneous, same/same almost, and boosters for drugs that require the use of batteries.  Read that again.  Boosters for drugs that require the use of batteries.  Basically drugs for drugs.  Throw in overdrives and yeah, non-drugging players cannot really maintain a 1:1. I've been screwed for months now, and I used to keep a regular 1.5 vs legendaries all the time.  Last two months, I'm lucky to break 1.0 K/D on any night.

It may seem counterintuitive to use turrets such as Smoky, Rico or Striker, but actually far more people have protections against Thunder, Twins, Railgun, etc. than against the former, which is partially why I advised him on using Smoky/Rico. They’re also underrated turrets and from what I’ve seen these last couple of months, they are very effective turrets to use...

FWIW Rico is my favorite and IIRC I have mine upgraded to M4. I will pair that with my Hornet and give it a try.

No, no, no. You guys have it all wrong. Tanki is NOT pay to play, it's still free to play since you do not have to subscribe to game nor pay a monthly/ triannual/biannual or annual fee to play. You can play as much as you want, as long as you want without digging into your wallet. Shux, you don't even have to MU anything. However, it IS pay to successfully compete and pay to win.

Only a handful of players, outside of Clans, are concerned about K/Ds. When the game was more balanced between buyers and non-buyers, then K/D was a big deal and some even bragged about it. But now, there is a big imbalance between buyers and non-buyers and K/Ds don't mean that much anymore. The concern is more focused on your position in the leaderboard.

I hear what you are saying, but there is the basic question of having fun playing the game. It is not very much fun to get destroyed in every match you play. No one enjoys that. A year ago it was a rare occasion that my K:D was below 1. Over the past few days of playing it is a struggle to just get it above 0.5. At first I thought I was rusty, but it has become very clear that the gameplay has changed dramatically and so far I would say not for the better... When it is not fun to play people just will do something else. Perhaps this is TO weeding out the non-buyers?

It really depends on how you're playing, I don't see rico hornet as a combination that can hide from incoming damage as it dishes out... Plus I find light hulls far too weak, the risk of just getting oneshot is too great.

Heck I've had positive K/D on @UAV1997 with mammoth isida in battles, one time without a single drug as well .

Don't let the frustration get to you, or you'll end up playing worse.

We all have our opinions about Tanki. Those of us who were there when Tanki came out of its beta shell into the world of gaming. We helped it take its first steps. We watched it grow, mature, become strong. Then a strange phenomenon happened....it morphed. It morphed into the beast it is today. We woke up one day and asked ourselves, "When did this happen? Where is the Tanki we loved?" It has gone away, but we keep searching for it, hoping that someday we will stumble upon it. When that day comes, we will welcome it with open arms. We will call in all the Isidas and they will heal its wounds. We will love it, nurse it back to health. Then we will confront the beast.

Players will take sides. Then the REAL Tanki WAR will begin. We are few and the beast has many.

The game is broke.

MM seems to match Groups against random, or could be pros against noobs, or could be those with fast connection against those with slow connection, or who knows what's going on. And I have also seen multing. In other words many unbalanced battles.

Add to that Overdrives and Drones and you get blowout battles.

So try making friends for Groups, do only Missions so you can have some batteries for at least the Trooper drone, learn when to quit battles, and adapt your play style to basically camping.

Trooper is cheap and it gives you 10 second of supplies when spawning at 0/20, it's good for when the other team is dominating, then you get another drone that adapts to your situation and work on MUing it.

Want to play more, open a new account.

+1 for Trooper drone.  Works very well in DMs - allows you to survive those critical seconds after you re-spawn.  Even if you don't make a kill during this time it allows you to get to safer position to start your killing spree.

If find it rather ridiculous that I cant even compete against tankers several ranks below me due to the changes. Just left a match where I was the highest rank and could not even get 1 kill. With an M4 Rico and DD I kept plugging a Brigadier in with Hunter/Hammer loaded with supplies and I couldnt kill him. He just popped a repair kit, turned and killed me with 1 shot.

It really appears PRO pass may be the way to go. So far I have found no way to find an interesting match that allows me to play longer than 30 sec without dying.

So far I am regretting coming back to play tanki. This has been a frustrating waste of time.

Many players who have left for a while then come back, have expressed much the same as you. The game is ever changing, you never have a chance to get comfortable. You'll find teams that completely ignore the battle objective and turns into TDM. I've always wondered why these players don't choose TDM. At least they will be playing the objective.

In my opinion, the game started going downhill when the servers were merged. The Russians dominate the game and they play differently from other countries, it seems. They don't care about winning or losing, battle objectives, team support. All they care about are the kills. Then on the other hand, it seems the battles have been pre-orchestrated. One team plays the objective while the other team plays TDM. I've also seen battles where one team is always on the offensive and the other is always on the defensive. For instance CTF. The offensive team will try to take the flag while the defensive team will try to prevent it. However, if the flag is taken, the defensive team won't try to prevent the cap. In fact, once the flag leaves the base, the flag bearer is no longer under attack.

Personally, I've become very disillusioned about the game. This used to be my "go-to" game. I spent hours at a time playing, even if I was on the losing team. In the past year, I've been playing less and less. Now, in the past 2 weeks, I've played 6 battles and haven't missed it a bit. I've found other games that pique my interest more.

If you wish to add me on either @UAV1997 or @Chameleos we could play together (You seem to post at a time where I'm active, so maybe there's a chance), maybe there's something you're doing wrong without realizing. I don't mind too much fighting field marshals and similar.

Though on Chameleos I have thunder M3 at 12/20 and it can get really frustrating to use. But on other days it feels nice to use, I dunno if that's the mood or just different enemies.

I don't have drones nor powerful alterations on those accounts, as they're several years old (UAV is from back when isida stole life, so yeah). I don't feel I'm doing too bad.

I'm curious - how did you get Thunder m3, Falcon m3 and Hornet m3 at Lt. General.  Don't see any kits with those specific items...

They're old, before rank normalization, and before modules. I had rustle, cedar, digital, and thunder and hornet were available at brigadier.

Grizzly is technically m3 too, it's at 35%.
