Too many bots.

Was in a CTF battle, 30 players, 15 per team... and I and only 1 other player were human.

28 bots, 2 humans... playing any mode other than TDM now is pointless.

All the bots do is drive in a straight line as well, block and push players who are trying to play the mode, and get in the way.

Basically sabotage bots.

28 bots, 2 humans in a CTF battle.

Amazing.

Just tried tonk mobile browser ed. Pretty surprised, in a pleasant way initially. The UI is pretty. I'm glad the buttons layout could be customized, though the possibilities are still pretty limited. Controls feel the same as the old ones, but are far from smooth unfortunately — turret turning is jerky. Not sure if that was my device or what. It appears too that turret controls are disabled the first few seconds after spawning, when the tank is still a ghost. Quite infuriating.

Players often say that the new supplies menu on mobile sucks. I do find it pretty hard to use. But I don't drug anyway cuz I'm just getting spawn-killed. (Love Brutus, but it's effectively just a pet.)

Nostalgia mixed with suffering really makes the unpleasant experience.

Also, Rubies... They make me sad. Gonna keep on hoarding my 60k tks. Pls donat 40k more, admins. Which, now I think about it, do paints still retail for tankoins? Or rubies? Can't quite check for myself. I accidentally closed my browser tab running the game. No hurry to open it back up. I'm also too lazy to navigate the wiki.

I still don't like drones. Imo they're a bigger cause for imbalance than augments.

One more thing, missions — the missions menu is absolutely daunting. I've been gone for a year and the missions more than doubled, with apparently more to come. Scrolling through columns with random colours and designs on a 5" screen scares me a little, and I didn't even try to understand what is what. Just got rid of the pings and left.

I am disappointed with the bots added.  It's offensive that they have American names. But more importantly, they do not move out of the way: they push you into shot range to get you out of their way.  They do not seem to go after our flag once stolen, dropped etc.  Most are impossible for me to destroy on my own.  I've often seen 4 or 5 of us trying to destroy the one same tank at point blank range and the bot wins.  I'm a level 39 ? legend.

I'm having trouble finding the Vlog...is it still made?  I'm missing all the updates.

There is still a TIP that refers to dropping gold by admin with the added note (be sure to remove this one).

My personal issues are that I am not scored as I should be.  Accounting for quick battle extra stars and battle passes,  I OFTEN have more kills, less deaths..and having been in the same full battle areas, am score nearly last all the time, with fewer points, stars and creds.   I checked with IT and they say my account is not "nerfed" but it surely is.  Very depressing.  Plus nasty tankers remark how I am "always last" on the battle list for my team, even though I might not have been destroyed at all! (Yes, often I'm in the same area battling as those who get high scores with less kills.)  I have hundreds of screen shots of final tallies ... it's been at least 2 years of trying my best and getting dung.

You had 2 humans in a CTF battle, looks like MM is finally starting to work as intended. ?

I've played on and off for long enough to remember how good this game was and how fast-paced some games can be.

Since the arrival of floating tanks and teslas lots of skill has left the game.

The fast paced skill players left and it became more a game of campers, because of this bots were introduced.

Although the bots often get stuck in a line, they don't intentionally sabotage games like real players, some of which are barely passable as functioning human beings.

In short, the game isn't as good as it was and now seems to attract mouth-breathing people using cracked-screen mobile phones while eating KFC in the corner of the Berlin map.

Some people just mess around in games, eventually you will have to pay us to play this thing.

People are not playing the game, they are ranking up to be ABLE to play the game.

Defender is overpowered. 90% damage reduction is RIDICULOUS. Melee turrets can cross open maps into opponent's base. Vulcans routinely sitting in your base and keep wiping out your team because you don't have Defender too. Hammers with Revolver easily getting over 2k/d in all maps because they win all 1v1 engagements with Defender. Defender is killing long range turrets because it's allowing situations that should not be allowed; it's destroying the Melee-Short-Medium-Long range map hierarchy.

I wonder how "classic" this iteration of the game will be. For me, true classic TO would be the 2010-2011 pre-Shaft era, with tier 1 and 2 gear and the old grainy textures for Maps and Tanks. However, I fear that such a mode would be too prehistoric for most players. The last iteration I would accept as classic would be 2013 TO, right after the global rebalance.

I also wonder about monetization... but I must confess that I would be willing to accept a pay-to-play model, provided the price is reasonable enough and the game only features the old crystal upgrade method, no tankoins, augments, drones, and p2w features.

Perhaps it will be when the game had most concurrent players ... which I believe was in 2015,

Remember when you used to be able to hide behind walls taller than your tank?

Well you can still get hit with striker, thunder and smokey now.

Eventually they will bring out a turret that kills every tank on the map and we wont have to bother playing.

They already have, only It's a hull that floats and when It's overdrive is active it is near impossible to take out.

The floating hack paladin along with all trashcans and augments should be scrapped.

You do not need a classic version to return. Get rid of trashcans, augments, bots and "FIX" all the glitches, like changing equipment in the garage first time of asking and either delete MM or "FIX" it so it does what it was intended to do, make battles an even playing field for all players regarding their rank at least. Do this and see a far better game emerge.  There is no need for a classic version if these changes are implemented.

Just tried the android app. I must say while being exactly the same thing, it's very different from the browser experience. The tank controls are actually responsive, and I would even say it feels smoother than on the previous version of TO Mobile. Playing brought back nice memories. The supplies pie menu is not quite as ideal as the previous row of buttons at the bottom of the screen. The new one is more finnicky to use. Being able to edit the controls layout is excellent. Unfortunately due to UI elements' restricting prime areas on the screen (something I don't quite get), my options are honestly pretty limited, I ended up sticking with the default layout — which for two-finger playing works well enough.

I do like the new UI though. While I miss the old UI, the HTML UI looks clean and crisp on a small display. I keep my brain dead at the missions menu, not bothering to understand it and just tapping randomly until all the notifications are gone.

Not sure if I was using the wrong browser before or what, but the standalone app is pretty nice, even with a perpetual  200+ ping. FPS on an S22 Ultra averages below 60. The gameplay feels the same as when I stopped playing last September or something. Overpowered weapons from a year ago are still overpowered today. Not surprising. Playing with kamikaze combos keep me happy.

I tried out the changes to the tesla turret, verdict-Its slow, monotonous and not very effective.

A tesla on It's own, even two of them has little impact on a trashcan using max speed with crisis. The firing rate is so slow It's not just ineffective, It's also highly tedious, which makes it borderline brain dead to use.

You want a trade off, then increase It's damage by 25%. That would be a fair trade off to counter the woefully slow firing rate.

You could also just revert your useless update, along with most of the others you have used to make the game unplayable for most players who can't afford to shell out hundreds of dollars/euros to keep up with the draconian changes you constantly make, usually to line your pockets.

These changes you inflict on players is the reason why I will never take part in any event (most if not all are cash scams.)

TO will continue to go down down hill unless you restructure large parts of the game, starting with removing augments and trashcans, permanently.

I may be in tiny minority but I love games with bots in them. The bots play so casually it makes the whole game more relaxing. Rather than getting spawn killed, bots just drive around and shoot. The ai is decent too. Id not complain if their protection was increased a bit more to make them more competitive but for now theyre an awesome addition! A lot of human players are worse than bots anyway

Have you ever had an awful year in Tanki Online?

I was going to make a long-winded post that I was planning to write for months but it was running on and on so I'll make it shorter.  2024 in Tanki has been the definition of discomfort for me, for numerous reasons stemming back to mid-2023. The strongest gut punch from my perspective was mobile transitioning into a flaming trashheap overnight in April. Almost everywhere within the app was a QoL downgrade. All the comfort I had with Android despite the very annoying bugs that persisted for years, was gone. Performance issues, control input issues, camera issues and so many other things made playing the game after the transition uncomfortable. All of these issues shoehorned me into a much smaller list of equipment I could use in battle, so small you could count it on your hands.

The energy I had to exert to complete special missions on one account on HTML5 was the same as doing multiple on Android. As as luck would have it, the first iterations of Contracts appeared. 3,000 reputation points per contract, multiple Contracts required. And there started the months of suffering I had in MM. The augment balance since May has been...I don't even know how to describe it. Some of the most baffling changes I've seen. Some of them were deserved buffs/nerds and others like Tandem and Plasma Turbo Accelerators were ludicrous. It was also there when I started noticing a large jump in the amount of groups I was fighting against in MM. Almost every battle felt like a sweatshop with the enemies I was fighting. All using the augments for their turrets that were very clearly made overtuned. PTA, Tandem, Vacuum Missiles, Faust, Strict Ammunition Load, Adaptive Reload, Large Calibre (hiss), Critical Mix, Healing Emitters, Status Teslas, Heavy Slugger, Hunter Duplet, Swarm, Round Destabilisation, Shock Freeze, Blaster, Lifeguard, Miner and an assortment of the practical Pulsars, all with their strong drones, especially Defender.

Almost. Every. God. Damn. Battle. Not only did I have to fight against these powerful things in groups, I had to be fighting them while also fighting HTML5 itself and all the shackles it placed on me. At some point it became too much and I stopped playing for about almost 2 months. I would only come in to check the settings on the event modes, test some things and go back out. One day I would feel to play Tanki, then I remember all the BS I would have had to go through with HTML5 and the equipment I'd be fighting at that time and it would instantly turn me off. I wanted to enjoy the game but the game wouldn't let me.

I slowly came back to playing when I decided I would use a variety of non-PTA Twins augments to complete missions, just to prove to myself that although it may look weak on paper, it could still do just as well as PTA at the time could with enough effort put into it. It was tough but it made me start enjoying the game again even with all the limitations (especially supply activation). Finally many months after the transition, auto-supplies came back. It's far from perfect but it was a massive weight off of my mind and I no longer had to be interacting with that asinine supply wheel as often as I was before. Auto-supplies release meant a few more turrets and augments became more comfortable for me to use, particularly with Crisis. When auto-supplies came, it brought back the functionality of Android where you could queue up your next supply while it was on the cooldown. After one week, that functionality was removed for some reason and Crisis is back to kicking up dust in my garage and frustrating me whenever I do decide to give it another chance.

Then bots came to Legend battles. Initially it was ok whenever I played near the server restart. But then the score nerf happened and now it's a slog to play in bot lobbies without specific equipment. Worse yet is being matched against a sweatsquad with a healer and not being able to do anything because bot scores are too low and actually going after the sweatsquad members is a lost cause with a competent healer present. Here we are now at the end of the year with a one-shot Magnum augment and a Freeze augment that quite literally rattles my head whenever I try to comprehend it. Some turrets having decelerating projectiles for some odd reason. Twins I understand as it would help it close range but why for Thunder, Gauss and Smoky? Why Ricochet? Plasma Disruptor being the latest nonsense alongside Crit Mix Freeze which is just straight damage inflation.

A Patch some weeks ago made some equipment feels better to use, like Smoky, so I now have more options to play with at random. There are many issues still waiting to be addressed and I wouldn't be surprised if it took another year for it to happen. Epic keys feel lifeless with all these fodder rewards like paints recently. I'm also not looking forward to Shock Nanobot groups in Team Juggernaut allowing them to go up damage barriers with the Jug.

That concludes this rant from a frustrated mobile player. What do you hope to see going forward in 2025?
