isn't this like... vulcan on incendiary band without doing damage to itself?

Yeah pretty much. I guess it works as an alteration for Shaft though, since a lot of the existing alterations already basically turn one turret into another.

Yeah, but the damage is not restrained to distance between the enemy and you and neither does it remain constant.

Ricochet alteration: Ammo bounces from tank to tank that are in close proximity of each other. First tank hit gets most of the damage and each hit after that gets less damage than the one before. Will not destroy a tank with full health, but can deal significant damage.

This would be fun to try, but doesn't seem to OP either considering it loses the ability to shoot. Another reason to avoid them lasers...

This is a stupid idea, imagine just sitting there trying to hold ur laser on an enemy for 11seconds in a game where movement is key. You would never get a kill.

Values are at the discretion of the developers, I just gave an example.

That is a great idea. That alt basically turns Shaft into epic laser gun.

I think it should deal constant damage per second and it should also deal afterburn.

Even still, I think having a laser that deals constant dmg is useless, a laser that you can shoot and do burst dmg would be better, but that's railgun. So this idea is still stupid.

Did you even read the whole thing? Damage is not constant, it increases exponentially the longer you keep the laser on your enemy.

Fire, Freeze, Isida deal constant damage. Twins and Vulcan deal almost constant damage. Do you think these turrets are useless? They are not.

I really like this idea, although constant damage might be better.

It would make Shaft in to much more stealthy turret instead of one that reveals its presence and / or position whenever it hits you. You wouldn't know you were being "lit up" until you noticed your HP dropping.

Might work even better without the laser. Can't see the point of the laser anymore. Once you are hit or killed by a Shaft, you know at least one is in the battle and you spend the rest of the battle looking for them and making more use of cover. It's not as if they are invisible.

Oh now that I read it again, this seems even more stupid than it already sounded.

So imagine sitting there across and you spot an enemy at the other end of the map, usually as a shaft you'd take your laser out of hiding and aim and you're done. But now, you have to put that laser on the enemy and hope they don't notice while you do 1, 10, 15, 20, 30 dmg to them OVER TIME and have it planted on the enemy if they do start moving, and if they manage to shake you off you have to point the thing at the enemy again and start all over from 1

they won't even have to shake it off, just move 1 centimeter and the laser will be shining on a different spot and it will have to restart

More of like 100, 150, 200, 300 and so on. Remember, Hexed's idea is about a flame-inducing laser, the damage would be decided by the developers. You can't reject an idea because you think the values you assumed wouldn't work. The idea is surely plausible.

"Usually as a Shaft".  <_<

If you were actively playing the game you would know that's what alterations are for, they make turrets different from their usual characteristics. Also, you should've payed attention to math classes because exponential damage over time times twice goes like this: 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64, 128, 256, 512, 1024, 2048.

Secondly, I'm not even sure what your argument is about... Normally, it takes several seconds to fully load your shot in sniping mode which is exactly the time the developers could set with this alteration.

Just imagine Shaft with this useless alt fighting against Rail. Rail peeks out, Shaft starts shooting. 1,2,4,8,16, Rail shoots, deals 1000 damage and hides.

Total damage:

Shaft - 31

Rail - 1000
