Why is the status effect called "Jammer" and not "Jamming"???

 

Besides, we got "Burning", "Freezing", and "Armor-Piercing", not "Burner", "Freezer", and "Armor-Piercer".

It doesn't really bother me with its naming. So what are you trying to imply? Suggesting to change it to "Jamming" or know the reason behind why it is called "Jammer"? I don't see any profit in knowing why it is called "Jammer" though.

My thoughts are that it's function is somewhat similar to the device called the "Jammer" and hence the name is taken from there.

Well do you call a guy who drives a bus a 'bus driving'? Course not. You see, the status effects jams the OD, so the effect is called 'jammer'. However, inflicting jammer would be called jamming. You can call firebird a 'burner', but inflicting the burn effect is called burning.

Well, whoever thought of that was weird. Grammar does not rhyme with "La-mar". Should've spelled it grammer.

But if we call it the "Burning Effect" and not the "Burner Effect", Jammer should've been the "Jamming Effect" as well.

I think some wanted to keep it closer to the Latin grammatica and the Greek grammatike.

Don't forget the word grammatical.

If they had kept the Middle English grammer, then grammatical would have been grammetical, and you would have said:

Out of "burner", "freezer", and "armor-piercer", only the last one sounds like a plausible alternate name of a status effect. "Burner" and "freezer", however, are actually nouns that refer to certain devices which are not really related to the status effect. A quick Google search will help. So, gerunds (verbs ending  with -ing which function as nouns) like "burning" and "freezing" are more appropriate here.

Jammer, like Nikunj said, is a device with a functionality which is very similar to that of the status effect in the game. Using both "jammer" and "jamming" as a name would work, but I feel "jammer" definitely sounds cooler. Don't ask why - it might have something to do with how sounds in English work and how certain sounds are more appropriate in certain contexts (they tend to "sound better"). I'm pretty sure the Developers have given some thought to this name...
