Assist points for other actions

Imagine this. 1:20 left on the clock. Score is 2-2 in Industrial Zone CTF. The Saboteur users on both sides just got destroyed so both teams finally have a chance to capture and pull ahead for good. Slowpoke101 is chugging along with Mammoth. They just sprinted in with their OD and grabbed the flag, but as they make their way down the tunnel, it runs out, and all of a sudden it's gonna take a lot longer to capture the flag. This, understandably, is not an ideal situation. And then SuperHeroWasp runs up with their superhero Wasp. All Slowpoke101 has to do is press F and drop the flag so SuperHeroWasp can capture it, but Slowpoke101 decides to just keep driving cause they really want the extra battle points. And then Evil-Tesla catches Slowpoke101 from behind and destroys Slowpoke101 with an evil Tesla, returning the flag, and the game ends in a disappointing draw. And all because Slowpoke101 was selfish.

Now, obviously, I'm being a little dramatic, but here's what I'm trying to say. Tankers might be more induced to teamwork if they got points for it. For example, a Mammoth could run in, grab the flag, and then get out of the base, then give the Wasp user the flag so that Wasp could then capture it. But why would the Mammoth user do that if they weren't gonna get anything out of it?

Enter Part 1 of this idea. (Yes, there are multiple parts.) For CTF mode, if a flag is captured without being returned, anyone who had possession of the flag within the span of when it got picked up to the time it got captured will get points. It's like assist points. It could be just ten or fifteen. But it's an assist.

Part 2 is exactly the same thing, but with Rugby. If the ball is picked up by someone on Team X, then Team X scores a goal before Team Y touches the ball, everyone on Team X who had possession of the ball gets assist points. This would make passing less obsolete and render teamwork more desirable.

SLIGHTLY CHANGED FROM PREVIOUS IDEA: Part 3 is for CP and Siege. If someone is helping capture the point, then they get destroyed, but the point is still captured without anyone on the opposing team getting within range to stop it (or everyone else getting destroyed), that person gets assist points, no matter how long it takes. I know this already exists but I want to suggest that the grace period is increased to forever. Basically, there is no grace period. Note that driving off does not count towards points.

I have a similar idea for Assault but that involves a slight rework to the flag mechanics so I will post it in a separate topic when I get a chance.

Yes please. I already had such idea in my mind for a while (but was too lazy to write it down, plus i'd like to suggest it with other improvements), but instead of a fix amount of points, i think it should be depending on the distance went from one flag to another (in a direct line), or something similar if that's too hard. For points, it could be time spent there/capture time. This wouldn't let peolle to abuse the system (except with groups, for example, but this feature should be disabled for them, maybe), but could reward people who did some progress for the capture.

Since we already get assist points in cases like those you describe where the goal is reached with success, I think what could be interesting is to get points even when the final objective is not reached. For instance a player could get battle points for picking up the enemy flag or the ball, regardless of whether it's capped or not. Or killing an enemy flag bearer could give extra battle points. Things like that which contribute towards the goal regardless of whether the goal is achieved or not.

Yes. Players that assist in capturing objectives get respective score when the objective is captured. The thing is that your eligibility for obtaining that score is on a timer. For example, in Siege, you are eligible for getting 10 score for assisting in the capture (running away from the capture point or dying before it captures), but only for a maximum of 10 seconds after you are disconnected from the capture point. If the point is captured 9 seconds after you detach, you get the 10 score. If the point is captured 11 seconds after you detach, you don't get the score. 

 

Your idea already exists in the game but is restricted, which is why the idea should really be "increasing the grace time for assisting objectives".

Hmm. Would simply suggesting that the grace period be increased to, well, infinity work?
