Mouse vs keyboard controls with Shaft - which is best?

I personally prefer keyboard due to the difference in mouse camera speed vs actual turret speed throwing me off. I perform better with keyboard than mouse in general though, so I am biased.

Mouse controls obviously, you can never be as precise with keyboard.

I think keyboard might actually be better when you're keeping the aim to the side of a space where a tank might appear, like a cover where it's hiding, and then need to aim very quickly to hit it. I usually put the aim so I only need to move it in a horizontal line to land on the target. It seems faster than with mouse, though I guess the turret doesn't actually move any faster. It's at least easier I think. for me.

Mouse is clearly better when only a tiny amount of a tank is visible though.

So I'd guess keyboard for speed, mouse for precision.

It throws me off a bit too. I think if the crosshair was a bit more visible against the background it wouldn't be as bad as it is. Same thing and it looks pretty good in War Thunder. I try to only look at if the tank I'm aiming at gets the red silhouette, instead of at the crosshair, to know when to fire when I need to be fast.

Oh yes this too!! Hiding your laser pointer is a very old trick taught in a Pro's Advice section of an old vlog episode, and keyboard is definitely better for doing this trick.

Nothing to add

Mouse controls generally.

Something that Flash had with Shaft was that you could preserve your momentum of rotation when you entered sniping mode. It was perfect for melee/close range Light Capacitors gameplay. HTML5 removed that. Your rotation would be slowed to a halt and then you'd have to repress the rotation button after entering sniping mode. That was a major downgrade from Flash and hurt keyboard Shaft a lot. Couple that with keyboard Shaft having bugged rotation speed for a long time, mouse was better.

Yeah, if tanks can see you can have time to get away, hiding the laser become a must.

Another trick is to aim at something directly infront of you, like an edge of a wall you're standing against. That way, even if the enemies knows where you are and can see you, they might not think you're in scope mode because no laser can be seen.

Mouse all the way. Just the amount of information you can gather by looking around 360° all the time without turning your turret makes it actually unfair, compared to keyboard controls. That the camera is not bound to turret rotation might throw you off a bit at the beginning, but it's an insane advantage, if you manage to figure it out.

Using mouse you aim at an object next to where an opponent can appear, press and hold right click, and move the cam to where the enemy would appear. If a tank does appear, all you do is release right click, wait for the turret to rotate and just shoot, mouse will automatically aim for you. That's way easier in my opinion.

Being a shaft player myself, I prefer mouse controls (I prefer mouse on any turret, it's just better)

From what I'm seeing from mouse control players, is it accurate to conclude that keyboard may be superior for hard camping/quick movements (ie hiding your laser behind a wall then peaking it out in a swift horizontal motion and firing immediately) but generally mouse has the advantage as well as being better for quick-scopes?

I have been using keyboard controls from 2011 until mouse controls were released, since then I have only been using mouse, so I have quite the experience with both. And in my opinion, mouse controls are literally better at everything. Hiding your laser when playing Shaft is just as easy, if not even easier, using mouse like how I explained above.

I mean, look at the top XP/BP players, the most switched to mouse for a simple reason - it's just better. Learning how to use mouse controls is the easiest way to improve your gameplay, honestly.

One problem with mouse controls (only with hovering hulls though?) is that the aim is always off while you turn, which is a problem, so I don't agree with that there's no cons to them, even though overall its better that keyboard.

Shaft is OP with mouse controls you can just easily pinpoint at the tank then shoot. Which is one of the reasons I was against mouse controls (or generally hovering cheats because I thought no one could use normal hulls).    As a player from 2012, all of my time was on keyboard, I wont change to mouse, even if tanki gave it infinity OP features (for hovering nubs) because I love zxc controls and it's one of tanki characters.

There was a bug through most of the tanki era, when you are aiming with shaft and you just click P, you will save the remaining energy also you wont shoot so people will think you're still sniping, till HTML5 get forced in 2021.   So I suggested before to return it, but moderator strongly declined.  BTW, an old video you can watch.

I don't understand who talk about keyboard in speed, they're at the same speed except if you mean you play keyboard till you get into sniping mode you use mouse, then I can somehow understand.

Keyboard all the way lol.

Mouse noobs just so slow i can take a nap while killing them in melee fight ? im killing them and what they do? spinnnnnnn...............

Don't worry i can use flying hulls with crisis and keyboard without any issues so shooosh. Yesterday i had some mouse noob telling me im bad because i use keyboard controls on paladin ignoring the fact that i killed him like 12 out of 15 times we got in a 1v1 and he was using exact same conbo  mouse controls are for grandmas who have no reaction speed, keyboard have way higher ceiling instantly making them better.

So on one hand mouse controls are for noobs with no reaction speed - so they make the game easier to play? - and otoh they're inferior to keyboard controls - so they make the game harder to play then? Which is it? ?

I agree that mouse controls, at least with hoverning hulls, makes it way harder to aim while turning. Otoh you can turn the camera to look around yourself 360 degress super fast, which is obviously an advantage. I can't say whether the cons outweight the pros.

Keyboard controls just x10000 better than mouse if you are willing to learn.

Want 360 degree view? use the damn radar yeah its 60m but thats all you need.
TL;DR mouse controls are useless and im too lazy to talk about tanki mechanics

You're serious? Its the thing in the bottom of the screen i use it all the time and it allows me to never get sneak attacked but people cry that its useless lol learn how to play the game.

It shows all tanks teammates or enemies in 60m radius 360 degrees its even useful if you want to do dictator OD but dont know if the teammate is close enough.

The radar is very underrated, you can even see where enemy tanks will respawn a second before they actually do. Highly recommend everyone to take advantage of it.

Thanks for the tip, and I sure will now!

Now I feel really stupid, but for a long time I had actually forgotten that it even existed, since I never ever look down on the screen...
