The reason is they don't have infinite money. Yes i can hire 5 new designers or 50 but... what im going to pay them 10 bucks and call it a day? ofcourse not because instead of having 50 designers i'll have 0 at the end and a bad reputation. Hate it or not but tanki online is made to make money and not to make you happy. it may make you feel sad but thats how every game works. So thats why some decisions can be a little goofy.

I don't think it's an expensive process, I think they may pay just 1000-3000$ and release all of the remaining HD skins in one month.    You're going far from my point, since the last HD skin it's more than 2 months.  Is there an employee who work 8 hours a day just looking at this piece?

If I would guess and list the reasons that they intentionally lengthen the process:

#: they don't want to release them all at once to make us always keen and waiting for the new skin

#: if they released all of them at once we will get easily bored and like nothing have happened = no benefit from the effort

#: skins are like events so players will return to the game by every new event/skin

#: they want to milk every skin for the last drop, by releasing augments

#: they don't want these skins to cover over the paid skins

@Kimura @firety31  Doesn't seem like you guys have a lot of experience creating 3D models. I have some (I do BIM for a living), so allow me to explain.

Simply creating the shapes to form an object that looks like an HD turret or hull skin is pretty easy, but even if you have the SD skin to base your model on, you still have to go through a design process to decide exactly how you will turn those low-poly details into high definition. Creating a model like that would probably take around 2-6 hours, depending on the artist's skill.

But it's not enough to just create a good-looking model like that. Tanki has strict requirements for how many polygons a skin is allowed to have. So you can spend all the time in the world creating a super cool skin that shows off every tiny detail, but if the skin has a million polygons and causes insane lags in battles — it's no good. It needs to go through a lengthy optimisation process to reduce the number of polygons while keeping all the important details.

Then let's not forget that the whole thing needs to be textured. It's not enough to randomly slap some "metallic" and "chrome" finishes on various parts. You have to study how the skin looks from different angles, in different lighting, at various distances and graphics settings. Then you have to give it proper texture to make it look like a battle-worn surface. And then there's another complex and lengthy optimisation process of making textures appear three-dimensional, so that you can create an illusion of high detail while reducing the number of polygons even further.

Ok great, so now 2-3 weeks passed and you have a cool 3D model. But wait, it needs to be functional! It will take at least another week to add animations, and to actually define how the model works within the game — which parts move, where the shots come from, which parts are covered by the custom paints, how the bullet casings fall out...

And now comes the fun part — bug testing. You have to check if your model actually works with the game's graphics, whether it reduces FPS, and if it causes the game to glitch or crash in a plethora of different ways (yes, that can happen even though it's "just a skin"). So that's easily another week spent on that.

So there you go — one or two months and 300 man-hours spent on creating a "simple" HD skin. If you wanna work for $10 per hour to do that — be my guest. But something tells me that a skilled self-respecting artist capable of making 3D models like that is gonna demand a lot, LOT more.

Welp I wont argue more, as I don't have experience in this.   I googled it, and saw someone who said it costs Apex Legends a 50,000$ per-skin, not sure if this was true.  Anyway...?

Railgun and Ricochet are my favourite turrets, I'm glad I'm able to like this one (unlike Railgun HD which eh.. I don't like that much)

Great skin with sick animations. I don't normally play Ricochet but I might soon.

In a month? Friend, triple the price and I'll have it done for you tomorrow ?

I loved the explanation, I didn't think I had all that process (although I would find out, I'm still a novice designer-programmer)

Ricochet HD skin looks nice in my opinion even tho I do play it sometimes with Plasma torch alteration, imma test it when it releases on Friday. If I like it then ill play with it more often because to be completely honest I only play Hammer/Viking but let's see how it goes :).

Ricochet HD is the very best HD skin that I have ever seen. It has multiple animation effects, which gives this skin a state of the art appearance. I would suggest that developers update all previously released HD skins to this standard of animation for superior skin appearance. The same quality of HD skin design and animation effects needs to be updated to all HD skins, past and future.

Skin looks really good, almost identical to the low polygon version. I wish each HD skin was like that. Also, I'm wondering, will you remake previous HD skins? Because as we see, the later the skin was made, the better it (usually) is, has new animations, etc., while skins that were added almost 2 years ago, like Smoky HD or Railgun HD, barely have any animations, not to mention how they look.

Don't tag me lol i was talking about just creating a 2D design. You misunderstood what i meant.

Tag 90% of tanki's community who have no idea how art and another game related things work because from the look of it they don't even know that tanki is made to make money.

Btw, they can start implementing the correlation of shot colors and banker. for example blue shot effect rico will have blue banker.

that was my first thought when I saw this topic. I agree.
