Coming back a decade later. What did I miss?

 Share

Question

Hi folks,

I've been meaning to get back to this game for a while. I made a few visits now and then. The learning curve seems to have shot up exponentially, don't you guys think so? There's a lot I miss and nothing feels the same, do y'all like the changes? I found some tanki clones online that claim to be "old tanki", awfully sketchy though, I'm not that desperate to go back.

Besides that, what do y'all think of the game in general now?

Cheers.

@dhruv123456 I'm similar to your situation, I've been back about two months ago after leaving Tanki about 6 years ago (I played until the Flash version existed). I came back to find flying tanks (really horrible novelty) and a few OP turrets that let people kill someone from far away, hiding and camping. Most people do not play the battle, they just do TDM everywhere. You cannot choose the map, welcome to MM. You'll see that without all these new augments you are struggling a lot. Many battles are so unbalanced one team is just dying every 2 seconds and so most tanks abandon continually the match during all the battle. Ah, you'll have to drug constantly. Who drugs more, wins. I used to never use supplies, now I have found that the main skill to reach top-3 is to press 1-2-3-4 very fast. Team play is almost non existent. We used to chat a lot (in English) to coordinate, if you remember. Forget about it. Some tanks are so OP you cannot kill them, because they have so high protection and they can use repair every 1 second. Try to avoid them. Many people have a protection of 50% against all turrets. Exploded tanks stay in a battle so long now, you'll get stuck by them in many occasions. Some battles are so full of mines it's impossible to approach enemy's base. So camping increases.

You'll see a big difference in PRO battles where no augments or supplies are allowed, so most players really suck in them, but those battles will often be plagued by flying tanks and OP turrets as well. So there is really no escape.

Hey tanker!

Im glad to see you back in the game. There are many things that have been added to the game. If you want to know about each of them you can visit the patch notes on the wiki and also check out the vlogs!

Good luck!

And then you can taste reality on the field: your tank exploding for no reasons, your hull hitting invisible stones, your turret suddenly not working anymore, keys on keyboard getting stuck... and that is just the beginning of a great (mis)adventure! But good news: you can become an average player right away! Start with a hefty economical contribution to the game and you are done! No skills required. And do not forget to keep contributing periodically: as a reminder, the equipment you purchased will be forcefully weakened so that you can enjoy the constant purchase of always more expensive new weapons.  See you soon in the Complaint Book thread.

And this ... surely not tanki's problem, but your keyboard, ghosting keyboard

Report a bug: do you mean download a video software that can work with Tanki Online, send a copy so that none cares about?

And concerning the keyboard, it is 100% Tanki problem. As an example, left key stops working and will not work till you press right key. Sometimes "ahead" key stops working till you press "back" key. Common problem to several Tanki players.

And did I forget to mention when you cross over a box and you cannot pick it up?

With the exception of the name, very little remains the same. Some people here think that the changes to the game are fabulous and super awesome, and there are an equal number of people who think the game is garbage and nothing like the original game that you remember.

The number one rule you need to remember as you return to playing here--above all else--is that this game has developed to make money for the owners. Nothing more, nothing less. Everything--literally everything--has been specifically designed and engineered to make you spend money on this game.

Matchmaking imbalance? Designed that way.

Upgrades? Designed that way.

More expensive supplies for a lesser quantity? Designed that way.

Frantic pace with zero teamwork? Designed that way.

Drugs, drones, protections, and battle passes? Designed that way.

Buffs and nerfs? Designed that way.

Getting one-shotted from the other side of the arena through a wall by a rail turret? Designed that way.

You'll wonder why your team is suddenly losing after winning for most of the game? Designed that way.

Enjoy your time here. Feel free to return after a while of playing and tell us what you think of this place 10 years later.
