No, it doesn't. The extra crystals are just taken "from thin air", so they don't affect the reward of other players.

The damage varies a bit for most guns and it's particularly noticeable with Railgun, since the large amount of damage per shot also means that it has a large fluctuation in the damage value. As said above, all 6 current XT items are exactly the same as corresponding M3 guns without micro upgrades.

That's the thing - I don't have a Thunder. Of course I would rather buy upgrades for a normal thunder instead of getting a prettier, weaker version, but this way I killed two birds with one stone got a new M3 gun AND an XT item.

That's exactly what the developers were hoping for. Normal players won't consider them worthy, but buyers are prepared to go a long way in order to stand out and show off their bling. This is what makes XTs so premium.

Why not? It was a somewhat sensible explanation. People were mining "Helium-3" on the Moon, which turned out to be a great alternate energy source, which was used to power all modern vehicles, including tanks. It was so valuable, that it caused people to go to war over it and after the war it was converted into currency, by the name of "Energo", where 1 unit was a small pellet of these blue-ish crystals of Helium-3. That's the official theory. I'm interested in reading what you come up with.
