Just wanted to say, thanks for posting an art contest, it's been so long since we've had one, and I really like the theme and the way the contest was executed. Nice work. The only negative point is that there's no deadline posted, but that's honestly not too much of an issue, as we know when approximately the next issue is going to be released. So, thanks for running this contest. Really hope to see more fun stuff like this, prize or no prize.

"Pay-to-Play" is when it costs money to just enter the game, Tanki is Pay-to-Win, or, Pay-to-Compete, not Pay-to-Play. Being cannon fodder is free.

[Issue 42] Why a 40% Off Sale is Better than 50% Off
LaserShark replied to sonofchrysalis3 in Newspaper Archive
That one guy, LaserShark, he's just a little crybaby, lets not listen to him. Let's say we come up with some new valid points to discuss instead. Might I suggest for our next enlightened, intelligent read, "Why you should spend your money on Tanki", "Save the poor, starving devs", "Sales hurt people", or "Spending is for pros." -

Not in those specific words. Maybe next issue? -

And not even nice propaganda, it's like mean, nasty, yell in your face and mock you if you disagree propaganda. I wish people would not let this kind of thing in the newspaper, it's fine for regular threads, but not here. It just makes the whole newspaper look worse, like it's no different from the regular rant threads. -

Yeah, and talking about the 'greater good' and ignoring the individual sounds a lot like the main principle behind a certain system of government... ... I shall leave you to guess which one. -
If it doesn't have premium accounts, I'm all for it.

I would have to disagree with you, this article is not constructive, it is merely an opinionated rant, equal to "Shut up and take whatever rubbish Tanki throws at you, or your a whining crybaby." The only way to properly deal with articles written in a harsh, disrespectful tone, would be to remove or edit them, but since the newspaper seems to encourage this kind of "ranticle", it will receive nothing but equally harsh feedback. -
Spaceships, I want spaceships, and I want to fly them.

Yeah, the laser was a dumb addition meant to nerf the shaft, even though it had been already nerfed into oblivion, but, you can just hide the laser behind a corner until you need to use it.
-
No, Tanki isn't trying to force high-rankers to leave, it's trying to force non-spenders to leave, and keep the open-walleted type.
-
Right now, the developers and their dumb updates that are worthy of volcano tossing.
-
I know the mythology, the great overlords banded together and made a plot to stuff their wallets full of bills, while simultaneously emptying ours, and thus Tanki was born. Yeh, not entirely on-topic, but, still...
-
I still play Tanki? No. And I don't see much playing going on in the future unless they chuck the dumb premium accounts in a volcano. I browse the forums though.
-
Not a career, it's a game. Railgun stinks, freeze was great until they nerfed it, now Firebirds the OPed weapon of choice for short range. Normally I'd recommend buying Firebird M2, but I know they'll nerf it eventually.

What's the best way to increase ones artistic creativity?
-
Remove dislike button, a few days later, release premium accounts. Don't tell me that's coincidence.
-
Ah, the reason the dislike button was removed is here! Chuck this update into the nearest volcano please. It is evil.
-
I leave the house, you see, I'm an evil dark overlord, and that means you must wear the whole black caped outfit that dark overlords wear, and the only day I can leave the home without drawing attention to myself is Halloween.

I really don't think the number at quit threads is that high right now, if only you could see the number of quit threads that existed on the old Dark Orbit forums.

How can I break into the art and design industry without a degree?

Typical Online Game Lifespan
LaserShark replied to LaserShark in Typical Online Game Lifespan Archive
I've played several MMOs, and I noticed all of them are very similar in lifespan. Stage 1, New Release: A new online game hits the market, everyone's excited about it, popularity begins to rise! Stage 2, Logical Updates: The game goes through a few stages where graphics and gameplay are updated through several revisions, the changes are generally an improvement, more content, or updated content. More people join the game. Stage 3, Peak Popularity: The game is very popular and enjoyable, most people love the game, and there is generally a very large and pleased community. Stage 4, Dropping Profits: The developers begin to notice a slight decline in profits, but instead of updating their game, and advertising more content, most developers counter this by adding more things to buy. Stage 5, Quit Threads: The community begins to show their disgust at the attempt to drive more dollars out of their wallets, and so creates a large number of 'I Quit' threads. Stage 6, Panic: The company flagship game no longer is the shiny example of enjoyable online entertainment, and is now sinking faster and faster into oblivion. Stage 7, Stagnation: Most games stick around for a bit before they are finally closed, but without the money or excitement to drive updates, the game remains mostly the same, usually making just enough money to keep the servers online, this stage usually lasts around a few years. Stage 8, Closure or Remake: Dark Orbit went the remake option, EA just straight up closed Need for Speed World and BattleField Heroes. The remake is almost never as popular as the original, but it can sometimes go through its own cycle. Do you think Tanki is following the typical MMOG lifespan? I personally think Tanki is currently in Stage 4. -
