Our server programmer Dmitriy Sergeev plays badminton for more than 3 years. He took part in several official tournaments, including Perm Badminton Championship 2014. Some say that badminton is a simpler version of tennis, something grannies play in the yard. It's quite the opposite actually, a very dynamic and demanding sport. What sports do you do?

The largest offline TO-only tournament ever, with an attendance of over 500 people, was held last April on the 26th. It was hosted in Yekaterinburg, one of the largest cities in Russia. Our tankers battled it out inside the city’s film studio, a huge building with very high ceilings, loads of space and powerful lighting — all of which made it look just like a real tank hangar. The finalists received 30,000 rubles for the first place, 20,000 for the second and 10,000 for the third ($750, $500 and $250 respectively). A total of 240 players entered the competition for the title of Grand Champion of Yekaterinburg, and the main prize. The main event opened with 12 qualifying battles, 6 in each of 2 game zones, leading into 2 semifinals. For the final battle, the best 20 tankers faced each other in a dramatic showdown. With so many talented tankers, the outcome remained unpredictable till the very end. The third place was claimed by 15-year old Sergey Belikov. Although he struggled at first, an intelligent change in tactics allowed him to secure the third place on the podium. Aleksandr Kursanin, 14 years old, from Lesnoy, has been playing Tanki for the past 3 years. His experience and skill brought him the second place. And finally, the tournament’s absolute champion — Valery Korotaev. Although he maintained a very strong presence throughout the whole championship, his position was constantly and increasingly threatened by Aleksandr Kursanin and Sergey Belikov, who were steadily gaining ground on the score table. In the end, he overcame and conquered his fellow competitors through strong positional play and a bold tactical move — a complete change of equipment. Valery’s cybersport experience was definitely a strong factor in his performance and ultimate victory. He forms part of MiX, one of the best clans in TO. Besides the tournament and main prizes, the event featured a number of exciting activities, including Q&A’s with the developers, and a host of secondary competitions. Players could take part in exciting tank races. These were held on a special racing map which was added to the game’s build for the occasion, together with 2 in-race paints offering 100% protection from everything. Players could still shoot each other to deal some physical impact -which is very useful in a race- but couldn't do any damage. First to the finish line was declared winners. All participants received souvenirs from TO. Winners received a significant amount of crystals. Traditionally, the tournament brought together a large variety of players, from children to the elderly, even whole families. Some had to travel nearly a thousand kilometers to take part in the event and meet their fellow tankers. For instance, Yuri and Ilia Goncharov came from Yugorsk, travelling a total distance of almost 1000 kilometers! But distance is no obstacle for true love and passion! Despite the bad weather (it snowed like in Lapland, which is strange in April even for Russia) more than 500 people participated. By 9 am the most impatient tankers had already gathered in the studio’s lobby. Some of them had learnt about the tournament just a few hours beforehand. Others had been preparing for weeks. The tournament in Yekaterinburg is by far the biggest offline event in the history of Tanki Online. It is far superior to tournaments that took place in Perm and Saint Petersburg. Unlike the previous tournament, the Yekaterinburg tournament was a TO-only event rather than part of a bigger conference. We organised it exclusively for tankers. One of the main challenges for the event, was to ensure a perfect setup for the game to run smoothly and flawlessly. This is why all battles were held on a specially designated test server, running a special build of the game, which was made specifically for this event. Everyone had a great time, and the Tanki Online team has gained some invaluable experience in holding large-scale events. Yes, this is correct. There will be 2 versions of the game existing at the same time, the current Tanki and the new Tanki on Unity, at least for some time.

Changes are possible, but most likely all boxes will remain the same. It will be separate. Microupgrades will be available in both versions of the game. Yes, forum will look different. Adding other languages is planned, Portuguese is only the first step in that direction. We strongly believe that by the time the new TO is ready, Unity will be available on Linux as well. Any changes in drugs are not planned yet. There will be new turrets and hulls, but we are not ready to give you any dates, this is not a priority for us at the moment. No, you will only be able to play with people playing your version of TO. You will be able to play the new Tanki smoothly on any Android device that has the same or better hardware than Samsung Galaxy S2. No, parameters of all turrets and hulls will remain unchanged. Because of that, there won't be any return of crystals. Currently we are not planning to release the new Tanki Online on Windows Phone devices.

For the last several months we've been keeping you updated about the development of the new Tanki. This has generated many questions and rumors. Today, we answer the most burning questions about the future of TO, and dispel all the myths! Will tanks behave differently? What will happen to physics? To parkour? Physics and tank behavior will remain unchanged. The current version of Tanki uses our own physics engine. This will be changed to the so-called PhysX once we switch to Unity. There will initially be a few differences. However, resolving them is just a question of fine-tuning coefficients. Will the new Tanki contain maps from the current version of the game? We’ll recreate the most popular maps in the new version. Yes, Silence and Polygon will be there! :) Will there be changes in the game’s economy? No. Balance, prices and ranks will remain unchanged. Will in-game chat be possible? Yes. Right from the start, the game will have special chat channels for easy communication between players. Will it be possible to see the profiles of other players? Yes. Tanki will finally feature profiles. These will display a player’s achievements and personal information, if available. Previous videos usually feature a Wasp with a Smoky. Can we see other models? Currently all tank models are being reworked. Once they are ready, we will show them to you. Keep following the news! On which platforms will the new Tanki be launched? Any browser, as it is now, plus mobile devices powered by iOS and Android. Will the game’s system requirements change? We are actually trying to push the minimum requirements to be lower than they are now. If the game works on iPhone 4S and Samsung Galaxy S2, it will certainly work on your PC without any problems. But for older PC’s it might be necessary to disable some effects such as dust, smoke and detail. Will there be a night mode? Will you add rivers and lakes? Will there be snow and rain? Possibly, but not from the start. It is very challenging to implement these things in the current Tanki. However, Unity has most of these effects built-in. Will the game remain browser-based or will it have to be installed? In case of PCs nothing will change -- Tanki will remain a browser game. You will need to install the Unity plugin on your browser. This will only take a few seconds as it is only 2 megabytes in size. Mobile versions will have to be downloaded and installed, just like other applications. Will there be a way to switch from the current Tanki to the new version? Or will players have to start from the beginning? The new Tanki and the current version will both exist at the same time. You will be able to play any of the 2 versions. You will also be able to copy your account from the old Tanki to the new one, but only once. This will copy your rank, crystals and garage. After that you will be able to play both the old Tanki and the new version. And the most important question — WHEN? Unfortunately, we cannot answer this question, as there is still A LOT left to do.
