Yes it is; not much upgrade from M2 unless you MU it.

Don't get M1 Thunder. At M2 Thunder isn't the greatest and M3 unlocks early (Even M3 with no MU is pretty weak). You could get M1 Hammer if you really want but since you'll have Twins, you'll be pretty set and can start saving for M2s.

I'm probably not going to play regularly, but I'll still play once in a while -- If accounts aren't transferred from Online to X, will Tanki lower the prices of everything since X will be the main focus for the devs?

Ha that's a hard call. If New Years is 40% you only save like 2K if you buy now. If it's 50%, you lose 17K for buying now. Xmas prob won't be 50% but maybe 45% maybe but it's hard to tell now. 41% is pretty decent so if you buy now I think you'll be fine

Ok first of all. M2 Smoky at your rank is ridiculous - you could honestly use your "M1" Smoky all the way up to Colonel. Anyways, because you are technically "set" on a turret (e.g. you don't exactly need to save for a M2 Turret anytime soon unless you get bored of Smoky) I would go ahead and buy some paints (I recommend Cedar). Mammy M2 unlock earlier than Titan M2 but both will last into the gold star ranks (Brig - General). I know that's a long ways away but you'll probably want M2 Titan for a heavy hull after Colonel (just cause it's not as sluggish). For now, since Titan M1 is so cheap, buying it (at sale) won't really hurt you crystal-wise at all (M1 Mammoth was cheap enough). Just curious - how did you get your Smoky so heavily upgraded? Was it the MU update?

Right now, I run a crappy computer but I can still play Tanki fullscreen Standalone and lowest possible settings. I was wondering, will Tanki X be more demanding to run? I know we'll have to install a separate application for it, but it's Unity. If there are any techy people out there can you provide me with some enlightenment. Thanks

The maps you mentioned (Monte Carlo and Stadium) are horrible for Thunder. Thunder is the best for medium and somewhat small maps; one good example is Polygon. In Sandbox due to small team sizes, Thunder is tied with Smoky in strength (imo), but in really small maps like Island, short range turrets are better. To answer your question about its range, I would say that the length of Sandbox is where its most effective (prob a bit shorter) although I find thunder somewhat usable in large map like kungur.
