Interview [Issue 33] Let's meet the New Reporters!
Thekillerpenguin replied to hogree in Newspaper Archive
No, the application period closed earlier this month. It likely won't be open for quite a while. -

M3 Thunder is more expensive than M2 Smoky (compare ~186K vs ~114K). They're both quite effective, but I fear M2 Smokies a lot more than M3 Thunders in general due to the lack of anti-Smoky paints and M2 Smoky's insane stats. They're practically on the same level if you ask me. That's only if you're talking about vanilla M3 Thunder though- it becomes significantly more effective once you start putting micro-upgrades into it. A M2 Smoky will have a hard time fighting a M4 Thunder.
-
My Hunter unfortunately can get 3-shotted by M2 Hammer, but my M2 Dictator can't. As such, I tend to switch to the latter when facing lots of Hammers. Hammer guy sees my Dictator looking away from him/her, thinks he/she can get an easy kill. Hammer guy unloads 3 shots into me at point blank range. I don't die. I turn my turret around to face him/her. Hammer guy realizes "oh shoot" I turn around and fill the Hammer up with plasma balls or lead. Hammers are still a big threat overall, but a lot of novice Hammers get destroyed by me because they didn't have a Plan B ready. Always have a Plan B when using Hammer, since you're very vulnerable when reloading.
-
Congrats on both ranking and getting M2 Wasp! I think that was a long term goal for you.
-
Yeah, no idea why that happened. I remember that the kit update was supposed to ensure that players could get discounted equipment without getting a huge advantage, and M2 Wasp at 3rd Lt seems to be a huge advantage. I suppose I should be happy that it doesn't contain Prodigi...
-
The kit as-is is broken too, but the problem could be worse. M2 Railgun can reliably one-shot anything weaker than an M1 Wasp (M1 Hornet is more of a maybe), but Tundra will put an end to that thanks to its hefty protection and medium/heavy hulls can withstand at least one shot. The problem is there is no significant Firebird protection around before Loam unlocks- Storm has 20%, but that won't help very much against M2 Fire once you factor in the afterburn.
-
There's really no reason to use M0 Hornet at your rank, especially if you choose to enter a battle with Captains. You should have been able to afford an M1 hull by WO5- even a M1 Hornet can (barely) survive 3 shots from M2 Thunder.
-
pls no imagine M2 Fire-Wasps fighting against WO1s. Heck, imagine M2 Fire-Wasps swarming battles at your rank. I probably would have bought such a kit (if I wasn't somewhat low on crystals right now) too, but this would be a nightmare for game balance.
-
I'm jealous of you. You have M2 Wasp before M2 Hornet even unlocks. :o The kit seems kind of broken due to how powerful M2 Wasp can be, but at the very least it isn't tougher to kill (health-wise) than M2 Hornet. I'm glad that it comes with M2 Railgun instead of something that would be even more broken...

[Guide] Loackie's Guide to Tanki Online's Physics Engine
Thekillerpenguin replied to Loackie in Archive
I've yet to figure out why you decided to post an ad hominem comment on Loackie's thread out of spite. Yes, you have had a prior argument with shado, Loackie, and deadtoyou. It's over now, and there is no real reason to hold a grudge against anybody involved. As is often quoted, "drop the stick and back slowly away from the horse carcass". -
You can't expect to withstand overheating very long with Hornet. If you want to take out Mammoths in one go (waiting to cool down is usually the best option anyway), use something with more health.
-
Most people like light hulls because they want to get around the battlefield quickly- heavy hulls might be too "boring" for their tastes. When I first joined Tanki, I thought that Hunter was too slow, so I got Wasp and later Hornet. Nowadays, I use medium hulls a lot more often.
-
we have a rebel here I currently use Sandstone since it's the only 20% Railgun protection paint I have. If protection wasn't a concern, I'd use Reporter.
-
I can maybe understand why you'd be able to get M2 Railgun 2 ranks early, but the M2 Wasp part really makes no sense if you ask me. You're getting M2 Wasp, what, 7 ranks earlier than you should be able to. Early M2 Railgun isn't a huge deal in my eyes (it's not a guaranteed one hit kill on M1 Hornets, RIP M1 Wasps though), but early M2 Wasp is a huge advantage. It's every bit as tough as M2 Hornet, yet it's the fastest thing on the battlefield (only M3 Wasp or M4 Hornet beats it). I thankfully haven't fought anybody who has bought the kit yet. I suggest they patch the unlock rank of the kit to Colonel so you don't get a huge advantage. This is the same issue that the Legend kit had a few days back, only worse. Well, at the very least most players who would get M2 Wasp at 3rd Lieutenant won't have a lot of experience with it, so it shouldn't be as hard as fighting a battle-hardened pro.
-
I don't think they're bothering you (or anyone else, for that matter). Loackie was a bit blunt, but at the same time he didn't really insult you. You're entitled to your own opinion, but your original post was worded like fact (note the total lack of "I think"s and an abundance of absolute terms). Most people here are a lot less likely to argue against your points if you say "I think pie is much better than cake" instead of "Pie is the best thing in the world, there's no way a cake can be half as good".
-
There's nothing particularly bad about the combo. Decent speed, good health, good stability, and good firepower at all ranges. Viking also unlocks relatively early compared to the other medium hulls (with the exception of M2 Viking). I'd take Dictator-Thunder or Hunter-Thunder over it any day, but it's certainly a formidable combo for both experts and beginners.
-
Nope. The recoil is strong, yes, and it can impede your driving with Wasp, but it's not that bad.
-
Smoky without crits is probably worse than Thunder without splash damage. A Thunder without splash damage would still be able to do a lot of damage against single targets. A Smoky without critical hits wouldn't be able to do that much damage at all- it would be only really useful on Starladder matches, where most of the enemies will be Hornet-Rails.
-
Achieved this on the test server in about 5 minutes of playing with M4 Smoky-Hunter/Prodigi. The enemy team was mostly Hornet-Railguns, and you can see why carnage ensued. Pro tip for XP fans: if you're being attacked by a Smoky-Hunter with a Railgun protection paint, you probably should switch to something else.
-
The RU6 test server was (probably still is) open today, apparently for testing the newest iteration of the mouse controls. I got myself a M4 Hammer, Prodigi, and a M4 Hunter. This is the result of my first match- note that I have close to no experience with Hammer. The only time I've used it before was during the first open testing- haven't used it since. I also caught a gold box with it (http://i.imgur.com/ORpxyut.jpg). There was a big moshpit on the Blue Team ramp (near the buildings), and I charged in with Nitro at the last second. I fired a shot (which killed someone, but not intentionally), which raised my hull enough to climb up a Viking and get the box. Not bad for someone with barely any experience with Hammer. I like it, but I'm more than satisfied with my current equipment.
-
soooo....... If this is a waste of time, why are you here? Telling other people that this game is a waste of time would be a waste of time too, wouldn't it? I don't think people would hang around at communities that they think are bad.
-
Vulcan might be a tad bit OP  I didn't use a whole lot of drugs, fought against mixed Hornets and Vikings with Freezes, Thunders, and Rails. Most of the kills I got were from kill-stealing, something Vulcan does really well.
-
I don't think the game is dead, for starters.
