    Tanki X — Discussions

The TX Railgun is different from the version in TO that we're used to. It reloads more quickly, but it has lower damage and has lost the ability to reliably destroy medium hulls like Viking and Hunter in 2 shots. It's now more powerful against light hulls, however it doesn't do so well against medium or heavy hulls.

    [Issue 55] Creative Vandalism!

It's August 26 now, so I'll be closing this contest up. Results will be posted in the next issue of the newspaper a week from now). Thanks for entering, I look forward to looking over your entries. :)

    [Issue 56] [Results] Creative Vandalism!

Whew, it's September already. It felt as if I only published this contest a week or so ago, but I've received numerous entries. They're not quite as complex as I initially hoped, but that's wholly my fault for overestimating the capabilities of the Tanki engine. ;) Given the technical limitations, you guys did very well, and it was difficult to judge these. I'm not kidding when I say that. I saw a surprising amount of imagination (and humor) involved. But enough about that, we're all here to see the winners announced and the prizes doled out. For small contests like these, I think it's best if we keep the preface short and sweet. 1st Place: @Yisroel.Rabin, @opidude, @mashedpotatOES2 for "Illuminati Tanki". l00minati is confirmed2 thanks to the work of these guys. WAKE UP SHEEPLE 18,000 crystals go to you each (I've given you an additional bonus of 3k crystals each). 2nd Place: @Viking4s, @iwanttobegeneralsimo, and @viking4j for "Cat Paw Prints". Very creative use of Thunder, nice! 13,667 crystals to you each. (I've given you a bonus of 3k crystals each). 3rd Place: @yakko123 for his currently untitled submission. Great precision and choice of canvas. 18,000 crystals to you. Consolation Prizes: @Bugs.meeny, @slycleaversmart, @clockwatch. 3,333 crystals to you each. @sillyedwin20. 10,000 crystals. @JK_Trolling. 10,000 crystals. Prizes will be sent shortly once Goldy/NS send their evil minions to, you know, communicate with the shadowy l00minati forces controlling the crystal supply. It's common knowledge. Monday 5th September, noob ~ Goldy waz here Anyway, here's a big thank you to all who entered. I hadn't done a contest for well over a year when I created this, and I haven't had much experience with contests in the first place, so I was a little apprehensive on how it would blow over. It turns out that there were some unforeseen technical limitations on the entries, but nevertheless it ran smoothly. To the winners, enjoy your prizes. If you've got some piece of equipment that you've been eagerly saving up for, hopefully this will bump up your balance somewhat. If you already own everything you want or hate everything at your rank, well, enjoy a PRO battle pass on the house. If you already have a pass...just go buy a bunch of supplies or gifts. Can't go wrong with some health kits. To those who didn't receive prizes, I hope you had fun participating in the contest and came out of it no worse for wear. Here's another thank you to everybody. I'll see you again next time. :)

    50% off Micro-Upgrades and Speed-ups for 48 hours!

Woohoo, MU sale! I think I'll put some upgrades into my Shaft and Hornet. Maybe my Jade module too.

Whats the point of this silly Tanki goes everywhere?

To my knowledge, Tanki doesn't have the resources to send their employees all over the world just to attend meetups. If they wanted to fly to, say, the USA, they'd have to get a visa, wait for that, and then buy a plane ticket to America (more expensive than staying within Europe). All of those cost valuable money and time. Traveling to somewhere more local (relatively speaking) is easier to arrange and is less of a hassle. It's also worth noting that Russia is pretty darn big. Yerevan and Tbilisi are pretty close to Russia, sure, but Tanki is based in Perm, which is 6 hour flight or about 1.5 days of driving for Maxim and the other employees. Cedric lives in Europe, but for him it would also take a 6 hour flight to reach Armenia or over 2 days of driving. Attending the meetup isn't a vacation for them- they still have things to do back in Perm/Malta, respectively, so you can imagine that they wouldn't be able to spend too much time out of the office. Lastly, Tanki has gone outside of Russia's immediate area for meetups too. The German community hosts more or less annual meetups that Tanki staff attend, and interestingly enough a flight from Russia to Germany is also about 6 hours.

Warning for using a font larger than 24 size

To keep the forum neat and readable, font sizes over 24 aren't allowed (there's a reason why 24 is the maximum size listed in the Size button). I can't think of a situation where you'd need truly gigantic text anyway. On another note, forum mods != battle mods. The battle mods are generally busy and a bit understaffed, which is why mults and hackers are present at times. The forum mods (who warned you) don't have the ability to handle battle violations, so I think it's a bit unfair to blame them for things outside of their jurisdiction.

    Your "Dream Kits" Ideas

It seems like for the most part, the developers try to include relatively common combinations in their kits ("Buffalo" is an outlier) to ensure that the components work well with each other. The only similar combination that is currently included in a kit is Hornet-Shaft, a combination that, while not mainstream, isn't that uncommon either. I almost never see Wasp-Shafts in battle, and while it can be an effective and fun combination, its effectiveness relies on enemies (especially Shafts) not noticing you. If they do (and you're within range), you're in big trouble. It's a combination that's difficult to use effectively (there is a chance for you to be one-shotted by Railguns) and is likely to be a detriment to your team if you don't really know what you're doing, so I suspect the developers are erring on the side of caution by not putting Wasp-Shaft in kits. Some players buy XP/BP kits without really knowing what they're doing and end up doing poorly. I can't imagine that Wasp-Shaft would be any better in that regard.

    Custom made paints!

Paint image: I made this out of a picture of blue calcite. Unfortunately, the engine doesn't seem to handle fine details very well, since the paints that I've made with more subtle patterns are pretty blurry on the tank. The contrast also seems to be lowered. The paint as it is only really looks good on M3 Dictator- on everything else, it's a foggy grey and the details aren't visible. If anybody has any way how to keep the paints looking sharp, let me know.

    Let's Discuss Thunder!

Thunder deals quite a bit of damage per shot, but it's important to remember that its strength is its range and splash damage. The damage per second isn't supposed to be especially noteworthy (it's about the same as that of Smoky) compared to turrets like Ricochet and Vulcan, but it allows you to utilize cover effectively while using it, is very reliable, and can attack multiple enemies. If you're expecting to knock targets out with minimal shooting, Railgun, Shaft, and Hammer will be more to your taste.

    Let's Discuss Shaft!

In my 2+ years of using Shaft, I've never thought of doing that. I usually hit Vikings with a fully charged shot and then finish them off with an arcade shot, but that gives them the opportunity to heal up or get murdered by someone else since they only have a sliver of health. The one advantage this method has is that at the very least you can get a lot of damage on them immediately, but I suppose that's not really a good thing in DMs. Thanks for the tip.

New paints and protection modules are in the game!

That's the point. If there was time for warning and time for saving, everybody on the battlefield would be running around with it, and a paint that's supposed to be a nice souvenir for an event would be not all that special anymore. How "special" a paint is depends on its rarity, which is why staff, eSports, and super-expensive paints (e.g. Frost) are held in high regard. If everybody and their mother has Red Suit, I doubt players would appreciate it nearly as much. Limited-availability paints like Moonwalker are, like I said, souvenirs. Players who were playing during the Farewell to Moon Silence event were given the chance to purchase the paint as a memento for the soon-to-be removed Moon Silence map. Nearly everyone with the Moonwalker paint has played on Moon Silence in the past, so owning it shows that you've been in the game for a long time and are a Tanki veteran. If it were suddenly available now, you'd have newer players owning Moonwalker who have never even seen or heard of Moon Silence before, which diminishes its value. Another example would be the Team International paint, which I bought earlier this year for the Spring Showdown event. It shows that I was active during that period of time and supported the EN/DE team in the tournament (enforced since you bet the paint price on their success). What if it was available for sale now? Then, players who never supported the team during the tournament would be able to parade it around, which isn't really right. tl;dr: yes, it feels bad to miss a limited availability paint that you like. No, it's not fair for the current owners to let you purchase it after the event, sorry.

[Issue 55] Dress For Success: The Paint Update

I think you're misinterpreting the title. "Dress for success" is a common saying about how dressing well can be important for work/life/whatever (being a slob is unlikely to get you much respect). Since the updates in question are paint-related, and this is a guide, I figured it was relevant.

    Let's Discuss Railgun!

I kind of miss the days when Railgun's impact force was super high, but that's mostly because I had a lot of fun flipping Hornets and Wasps with Dictator-Rail. If I was facing straight ahead and a light hull was perpendicular to my direction, I could flip them 9 out of 10 times. Of course, using a light hull was kind of miserable because of that, so in a way I think the developers made the right decision to reduce Railgun's impact force. I haven't flipped anyone since, however, so maybe it was a bit too much.

    5 More Types Of Noobs

I think you used the wrong image for "Scammers". It's currently the same one as the "no kill" one, you might want to correct that. Otherwise, nice article!

    Improve Shaft shot effect

To my knowledge, Shaft is supposed to be a kind of particle weapon, which explains the charging feature and unusual sound. While I do agree that it doesn't sound as powerful as it should be, I would rather that the sound stay as it currently is to avoid attracting too much attention. And a quiet death isn't necessarily less scary than a loud one. As for the appearance of the shots, I think that the old colors should be restored (red shots at M3, reddish orange at M2, etc.), but I don't support adding a tracer to the shots. That would expose the user's position far too easily, similar to what happens when firing Railgun.

    Let's Discuss Shaft!

In my experience, Mammoth-Shaft's utility mostly lies in the fact that it's unlikely that it will be dislodged from its camping spot and can basically shut down entire portions of the map (hard to be counter-sniped), but it's not capable of changing positions very well and is more of a dead weight if nobody comes into the killzone. There's no disputing that maps like Lost Temple, Monte Carlo, and Highways are basically giant Shaft killzones, where you don't need to change spots to get kills, so Mammoth-Shaft is highly useful there. However, it loses utility on maps where you won't be as likely to have opponents waltz into your line of sight consistently. I like medium (occasionally light) hulls with Shaft because I dislike waiting around and you have the ability to change positions if the hunting isn't good in your current spot, allowing you to be more active in battle rather than just sitting in scope mode all the time. For the most part, I'd rather have a good Viking or Dictator with Shaft instead of a Mammoth simply because they can have a larger presence on the battlefield, but I appreciate Mammoths in certain maps or in certain situations. It's a cheesy combination, sure, but it's cheesy because it works.

    Let's Discuss Shaft!

It's pretty uncommon for me personally to encounter enemies with any significant Shaft protection, and even then it's mostly from Winter. Jade and Picasso are still quite rare in the battles I play, so I guess I've just been more lucky. For Shaft purposes, I think most people would prefer M4 Viking since it has better protection, a lower profile, and its speed is still decent. Personally, I'd use Hunter, but that's because I like speed.
  19. I think this would be unnecessarily complicated and annoying for a fast-paced and relatively simple game like Tanki. Driving is supposed to be intuitive and basic so that the player can focus on other aspects of battle, and the fact that you have equal maneuverability on any type of terrain is part of that. Summer/Winter maps are also just cosmetic changes that shouldn't impact gameplay at all. I would find slipping on icy terrain and needing to shell out for a different set of treads highly irritating, and I suspect that difficulties with climbing slopes would make holding high ground kind of overpowered.

    [Issue 57] Reporter Simulator 2016

Have you ever wanted to be a reporter? Ever wondered what being a reporter is like? How we do things? How things have changed since hog last did his "behind the scenes" article? Well, too bad, that's all classified. ... I've been given clearance by our exalted vice-dictator, THE NS, to show you a glimpse into what we do on a daily basis. Step into the shoes of a rookie reporter and delve into the labyrinth of our super secret Newspaper Material section, our illuminatish Skype chats, and more. Hold onto your hats. And by "hats", I mean that helmet that I just gave you. It just looks cool, I promise. Don't worry about those needles, they're supposed to go into your skull... <neural activity discovered...> <attempting neural link...> <success! link was established at port 30> <warning: neural overflow protection module not loaded!> <info: subject safety at risk in case of extensive simulated trauma!> <$ADMIN_OVERRIDE> <proceeding...> <establishing interface...> <success!...> <loading stats.ini...> <success!...> <loading repsim16.nse...> <success!...> <loading graphics.wxr> <error!...> <loading extremelylowgraphics.jpg> <success!...> <info: graphical quality may vary during operation!> <executing repsim16.nse...> <warning: sensory parameters exceed safe limits!> <$ADMIN_OVERRIDE> <proceeding...> Author's note: I will occasionally embed Youtube videos in spoilers for background music when I think music is appropriate for the mood. It's just something I'm testing out. If you see a spoiler labeled "background music", you can go ahead and pause any background music already playing, open the spoiler, and play that. Note that you can close the spoiler after pressing "play" and the music will continue. You approach the imposing doors of EN Reporter HQ. Your reporter application was accepted last week, and you've been shipped here on an express flight for your first day of work. You initially felt excitement as you received a handwritten letter in the mail announcing your entry, but now, you're not so sure. The building is surprisingly huge for a newspaper team that only has a dozen or so staff, and you have no idea what will await you within. The sun rises slowly behind you, and the outside temperature is heating up. You feel compelled to go inside. Option A: Go inside. Option B: Don't go inside, because you are a noob mult.

    Let's Discuss Dictator!

I'm pretty sure that fully micro-upgrading M2 Dictator is far more expensive than just getting M3 Viking. I own a full MU M2 Dictator, and it's fantastic, but I got it for a much lower price by fully upgrading the health prior to the MU update. I don't think I would have done the same now. If you don't have cash to burn, you're probably better off maybe upgrading it partially and then reserving it just for gold boxes, using other hulls in the meantime. Besides, M3 Dictator is in kits now, so you may be able to get it at just Marshal. Also, I'd be a bit wary about getting Voltage at the moment. Electra is one of the paints that got a lot more expensive after the update.
  24. To add onto what Flexoo said, it appears that you posted a link to a Gmail attachment. We can't access that since it's not public. Download the picture onto your computer, go to imgur.com, click the "new post" button, select browse, look into your download folder, select the picture, and upload it. Once that's done, post the image in your post.

    Let's Discuss Dictator!

It's certainly not bad. Not as good as M2 Viking for sure, but it's cheap, has good stats, and will carry you to M3 Viking without too much difficulty.
