Guide [Issue 68] 7 Ways To Succeed With Your Helper Application
Flexoo replied to Flexoo in [Issue 68] 7 Ways To Succeed With Your Helper Application Newspaper Archive
Hello readers! Throughout their careers, many tankers hope they will once join the ranks of the helpers. We receive applications from such tankers almost on daily basis, but not all of them meet requirements. This topic aims to provide you some essential tips and shed some light on the most common mistakes applicants do. Note that these tips do not guarantee you will get into the helper team, however, they may raise your chances considerably. Let's dive right into the advice. Help Unselfishly One of the biggest problems with applications is the motive behind them. Players often apply only to gain some sort of community status, to get power, crystal payments, Helper paint or any other possible benefit. Sure, helpers receive certain goodies for the time and effort they put into the game, but this should not be the primary reason for you to apply. We are looking for people who sincerely want to help the community to grow, people who want to maintain order and those who don't only think about the crystals in their piggy bank. Usually, it's so easy to tell someone is joining just for benefits from the first interaction with that particular tanker or even his application. Don't send applications just so that you can brag about your status. In the end, people who unselfishly helped in the forum, chat, help site, Facebook or any other game environment, and proved their intentions through their actions will definitely impress us more with their applications than glory-seeking speculators. Examine the Application Rules Thoroughly It's almost ridiculous, but many people actually don't even know what they are applying for. It happened couple of times that someone who wanted to apply for Chat or Battle Moderator asked a Reporter Administrator or posted their application in Newspaper Reporter section, because... uhm.. Reporter is the guy who works with the violation reports. Right? NO. Sorry, you just jumped to a wrong conclusion. If you would have read the application rules, you would know that's not the case. Each team has their own application rules posted in their section that clearly state what is needed in the application and sometimes even what the job is about (although it's usually pretty clear from the job's name). If you somehow do not understand what is requested from you, either ask the administrator who's managing that particular team, or rather do not apply at all, because it's better not to send anything than a hastily made application. Who wants a hasty person that doesn't even know where to post the app in his/her team? No one. But let's say you know what position you want to apply and you know where to post your application. Are there any more tips? Actually, yes. You should always fill in all the details requested in the application rules. If I would get a nickel for every application that lacked the requested details like example of writing, or age, I would honestly be millionaire by now. We don't need your bank account, your mother's first name or anything extremely personal, but those things in application rules are necessary. Otherwise we wouldn't have information to judge you on. Think of it as applying for real job. You want to make your application look appealing, you want to mention your strong points, your experiences and qualities. In other words, you want to persuade your future employer that you have the "whole package" for the job. Note that we do not hire helpers based on how quickly they write and send their applications, but how appropriate and elaborated they actually are. Leave out the Lies I outlined it's important to impress with your application, however at times, some tankers take wrong turn and try to present themselves in brighter light when they embellish the application with a load of lies. Applicant is either trying to get around a certain requirement he/she does not meet or thinks that lies will somehow raise his/her chances to get into the team. I can tell you that the worst possible thing you can do in your application is lying. Lying will definitely not help you, but will actually cause the very opposite - it will drastically decrease or totally eliminate your chances to get into the helper team. My senior admin colleagues met many tankers who somehow underwent a rapid aging process and turned from 14 to 20 years old in two weeks to meet that age requirement in application rules. It's admirable some people already use time traveling technologies. But on more serious note, do not underestimate the administration, guys. Lies have short legs. We will find out! Put Politeness and Rules Above All This is by far one of the most important requirements we enforce in every helper position. Each member of the helper team must follow all the Game Rules. In the end, how would we practice what we preach? Helpers must be trustworthy, reliable people which do not succumb to stressful situations. They must be resistant to trolling, insults, rage or any other thing they might come across. In addition, helpers are game representatives and act as an extended hand of the company. It's natural administration and game owners want only the most reputable people to represent them. So, let's dissect the requirements for passing something commonly known as karma (security) check because I deem lot of tankers have a very foggy image of how it actually works. If you check the application topics for any job, you will notice the sentence: "Clean ban history for at least 6 months" or "No bans in last 6 months". In some instances, the period can be even longer, but usually the job requires you to be clean for at least half of the year. I believe this part does not need any explanation. It simply says that you should not receive any official serious in-game ban. "So if I have no bans recorded in my history, does it mean I passed the check?" As a matter of fact, no. This is just a first layer of control. Next, we examine how you behave in the game and its ambient, because ban history itself doesn't provide whole picture about you. I feel like some people think that we will not find out about bad behavior in battle chats because that stuff can't be reported now, or about their violations in eSports tournaments, or other shenanigans applicants do and think they're completely hidden from our sight. Guess what? We can check and learn quite few things that are related to behavior issues and assess each applicant very accurately. You might ask: "But I am applying for Chat Moderator. What does that have to do with eSports violations, or some forum trolling?" You do not see any connection, but bad behavior in one department affects your chances even in the other one. It tells us that you do not handle certain situations correctly and thus that you ain't competent enough. If you really want to succeed, then behave and don't just count on that we won't learn about your trespasses. Endure the Insecurity As someone who applied for a helper position twice, I do totally understand it's not easy to wait for the final sentence. It might take weeks till we come to decision, but there are perfectly good reasons behind it. Firstly, judging applicant takes some time. We have to decide if the applicant meets the set criteria and run the karma check. Secondly, there are other things that are part of the administrators' workload, so they don't just sit and refresh the applications section. And lastly, let's not forget administrators are mere volunteers too. They have real life things they must attend to, so Tanki is not the only thing on their schedule. Remember, good things come to those who wait. Resubmitting the application million times or flooding PMs of the administrators regarding the results will certainly not hurry the process, more likely, enquiring about it will impact your chances. Patience is very important attribute of helpers. If you don't have it, you will either get in trouble or won't make it to the team. Resolve upon Your Plans There's another thing you should definitely do before even sending the application and that is deciding what you would like to do as a helper. Some tankers firstly post an application for the job they want to do, they are declined, so they send an application to another job, get rejected, send another application to yet another job and the circle continues until there's no other job to apply for. Obviously, there's something wrong with the application or the applicant. If applicant sends a dozen of applications in short period of time, it shows he either doesn't care or know what he wants to do, or that he just want some post for status no matter what position it will be. Sure, sometimes one tanker does not fit one position, but he would do great on some other. However, spamming each application forum section in hope that the luck will smile at you one day is not the way around. The problem is, many applicants just don't have resolve or aren't willing to improve when they are declined. Perhaps, applicants should try to get to the bone of the obstacle and try to find the way to improve rather than sending applications over and over again without knowing the problem behind the rejection or even completely ignoring it. Self-Reflect And lastly, I think it's in place to objectively self-reflect before applying and truthfully answer few questions to yourself: 1. Do my abilities, knowledge and nature suit the job I want to apply for? 2. Am I behaving in battles, forum or any other Tanki environment? 3. Do I really meet the requirements or am I just hoping that luck strikes again? 4. Do I really want to do this job? 5. Will I have time to do this job on daily/weekly basis? 6. Am I aware of all the responsibilities that come with the job? These are just few most important questions. Obviously if you answered no, I would definitely advise you not to apply. There you go. I hope this article will come around handy in case you would like to apply for any helper position in the future.- 46 replies

Announcement Voice of the Community - English Survey Results
Flexoo replied to Flexoo in Voice of the Community - English Survey Results Newspaper Archive
Dear readers, As you may have noticed few months back, we conducted a survey and postponed the release of the Issue 67 to analyze the results and implement couple of changes to the way Newspaper works. So, without further ado, here's the list of changes and plans you can expect being implemented in the next couple of months. NEWSPAPER ISSUES The first big thing that will most likely change in the future is publishing schedule. As of now, we publish one big issue monthly, but as the survey results have proven, most of you would rather see two smaller issues per month. For now, we need to get more regular writers into the team and rework this system that fell into pieces few years back. The second thing that is related to issues is their structure. We will try to provide more articles from genres you requested the most - guides, reviews and humor. However, this does not mean we will totally eliminate other genres. You will still be able to read stories, poems, comics or interviews every so often. NEWSPAPER SPECIALS Specials will not change very much. We are refining what content warrants a special article to be written about it. Small patch notes that do not have a big impact will not be covered. We will also try to publish articles with more imagery and more detail. We will also be creating several different kinds of special contests in addition to those that are lottery based. All specials contests will still relate to using a certain paint that is available during an in-game event. AMATEUR WRITING SECTION If you are familiar with this section, you must have spotted we implemented few changes. Firstly the section was slightly reworked and problems like topic bumping were sorted by adding an additional archive section for older articles. We also opened the AWS writing projects to public, so in case you would like to improve your writing and win some crystals along the way, follow the monthly projects posted in the Amateur writing section. We have one more idea that will hopefully motivate you to write even more, but we will keep it a surprise for later. NEWSPAPER CONTESTS Naturally, most of you requested...*drum roll*.. bigger number of contests and rewards. Unfortunately, these requests can't be realized. TO Newspaper already distributes enormous amount of crystals and we hold more than enough contests. However, even in this department you can expect some changes. We will start awarding more players (e.g. instead of the usual 1st,2nd,3rd place we'll amend the prizes and have 1st to 5th place + consolation prizes to award even more really good entries). On top of that, we will focus more on contests that do not require a specific skill or talent like challenges, quizzes, or humor contests and thus can be enjoyed by more tankers. Of course, skill-based contests will not be totally terminated from the Newspaper, however, they will appear more sporadically. Along these, we might implement other minor fixes and changes that sprang up from the survey results, but they won't make such noticeable difference. -
Results [Issue 67] Describe This In 100 Words!
Flexoo replied to Flexoo in [Issue 67] Describe This In 100 Words! Newspaper Archive
Hiya, participants! Two months have passed. You've been given two pictures and 100 words to describe them. Who did it best? Let's uncloak the names of the winners! Picture 1 1st place, winning 25 000 crystals: nastib*****d (name censored due to the fact it might be inappropriate) Thunderstruck. To see such an assembly, Of stars, That hang aloft, Each arranged by an almighty hand. They are the eternal sentinels, Whose gaze, Sweeps over a kingdom of transience. How many kingdoms have they seen? Rise and fall. Rise and fall. How strange, That the heavens above, Hold no interest, To those who crawl around beneath, Consumed in a senseless task, Ignorant to the perfection above. And who would have thought, That all these thoughts, Would converge, Upon the confused consciousness, Of he who chose to look up, With a computer scroll, Through a digital divide. 2nd place, winning 20 000 crystals: @TheAceRabbit A cool breeze shudders my tracks, my wheels cold and worn. My turret has cooled from the endless attempts to thrust my tank up to the roof of this fine warehouse. Stars illuminate the vibrant night sky, almost giving me the sensation of driving on the moon. I gaze up at the dark sky, my flag swaying gently. I tell myself that soon, I will sail among the universe nimble and swift. The stars will guide me to happiness. I will fly over Railgun and Magnum, giggling with glee. All the turrets will look up in envy and see me. 3rd place, winning 15 000 crystals: @Snootera In a clear night, I stand under the glowing stars. The Universe is around me and I am in it embracing the serenity and beauty of Creation. With defeat of others in my hands I feel not proud, well I cannot because I am alone. They want war but I want peace and therefore I have been deserted, but for what should I cry because I have my shadow, my most true companion, with me. Standing here I think, “We all run for victories but in this foolish process we forget to spend a night with Night itself.” Picture 2 1st place, winning 25 000 crystals: @Sliced With pressure quickly rising, these tankers scramble for cover as the ground turns black under the fire of a Magnum high above. With no way to return fire, this is their only option. It is either do...or die, the dead tank serving as an eerie reminder of what might happen if they don't act quick. But at the same time, they have a flag to protect. For, if they enemy manage to get away with it, the battle would be over, either team needs one capture to win the game. Under the heat of the baking sun...they can only hope. 2nd place, winning 20 000 crystals: @colindestroyer77 "These guys are annoying", I've so often been told. But in all seriousness this is getting kind of old. It seems like Magnums are the brand new thing, because they can camp up there and act like a kings. And they brag about it too, they think that they're nifty. Especially when their D/L rises above fifty. They laugh at me since there is nowhere to hide, but suddenly their laughter begins to subside, since the battle is over and now we switch sides. 3rd place, winning 15 000 crystals: @DeathXHunt The sky blue on the bottom, and the fiery red on the top. It is the map of Noise, where the Magnums' calibers will drop. They will surely reign supreme, as they set up their camp. Where they turn their angle seventy, and zero as their amp. Hail the mighty Magnum, where M3s shiver in fear, as an M1 turret takes its shot, and destruction is all clear. 5 000 crystal consolation prizes: @TeaLeaves, @joelpro12, @I-Hate-Druggers, @DesmondDoss, @OPjoshua, @Maharaja Congratulations to all the winners. Your prizes will be send on Monday. In case you enjoyed this contest or want a second shot at it, check out the new edition in Issue 67. -

Review [Issue 73] Flexoo's Garage Analysis (Part I)
Flexoo replied to Flexoo in [Issue 73] Flexoo's Garage Analysis (Part I) Newspaper Archive
Tactic, teamwork and maybe even bit of the well-known luck are all the essentials needed on the path to success. However, the keystone to build around is your garage. Having a good garage is an absolute must for everyone who strives to be a strong tanker. As someone who experienced this and that, let me present you my garage advancement while I bring back on stage this Newspaper classic. My Humble Beginnings I cranked up my engines around the beginning of 2014, maybe sooner, maybe later. I didn't devote many hours to gameplay, nor I considered TO to be the most interesting game at that time, so my memory is very scrappy. Anyway, I assume no one is interested in prehistorical ages when Iranian deserts were inhabited by M0 Mammoths with Isidas. Long story short, I would characterize first days of my newly registered account as a time of purchasing most M0 equipment that I already acquired experience with while occasionally partaking in heated battles on another account. It was a time of experimenting with various turrets and hulls and figuring my playing style. It took me couple of weeks or months to actually reach the M1 ranks, but I slowly pushed through to my first M1. M1s As I mentioned, I wasn't very active at the start of my career and it did not change even when I reached ranks that unlocked M1s. I usually just loaded the game, claimed daily gifts, played couple of battles and then closed the game. That was the routine I followed. This way I reached Warrant Officer 1 and transformed my earnings to very first M1. My first major investment was nothing else than Shaft M1, a turret I deemed to be the strongest around these ranks. pre-update 8.5/10, post-update 7/10 I confess. I was quite a big camper and Shaft M1 was absolutely perfect for it. There was nothing easier than finding a cozy place and OHKO almost everything that dared to appear in front of me. My D/L ratio was almost always higher than average of the team and those poorly armored Wasps and Hornets kept on coming into my view like bees to the honey jar. Though, with introduction of the Shaft laser scope update, I slowly started to lose interest because I felt cheated that sniper mode aiming is now visible. Despite the fact that not much has changed as most of the lower ranked players were still an easy prey, it was not the same Shaft I felt in love so much and so I started looking for replacement. Around the same time as Shaft, I also bought Titan M1. 9/10 I would describe Titan purchase as a huge step forward. Titan was a bulky golem with over 200 HP. It could easily eat many hits and its bulk went well together with Shaft. Potent enemies with power to one-shot me were absent at these ranks. This allowed me to stay alive longer, take any hit and at least damage if not absolutely dominate opposing tankers. Since I played mostly on medium and large maps, I soon noticed the only defect. The speed. Being at least moderately mobile was necessary for my newly-found passion for gold hunting. When siren went off I struggled and usually failed to get to drop zone at time. Although Titan wasn't the best hull for quick transport to Gold box spots, it still deserves an excellent mark. Some time later, if I remember correctly on 70% off Smoky! sale, I got myself, duh, Smoky M1. I was an impatient nuba who did not think twice about his purchases, so shortly afterwards, I also purchased Dictator M1 at full price because I heard about its magical Gold hunting properties. 10/10 10/10 Smoky M1 brought groundbreaking changes to my ordinary gaming style. The damage was not as high as in case of other medium-long range turrets, but 3 to 5 consecutively fired shots provided enough harm for me to come victorious in most confrontations. It's necessary to mention the usefulness of impact force. With such quick firing rate, Smoky could easily knock off enemy aim of ever-present Railguns, Thunders, Shafts or other Smokys. The always annoying and unexpected critical shots made this turret even more powerful and so I stuck to it for several ranks. As for Dictator, its assignment was to increase my Gold Box catch chances and it definitely fulfilled the difficult task. Difference in height was significant which contributed to many golden successes. Additionally, Dictator was offering great amount of protection while being just slightly slower than its medium hull brother Viking, and though its height has been a double-edqed sword making me an easier target, I persisted in using it exclusively up to Major. It's been equipment worthy of the price. Days flew away and New Year was knocking on the door with full bag of sales and goodies. I took this opportunity to expand my garage and so I bought Firebird M1, Freeze M1 and Hornet M1. 4.5/10 3.5/10 3/10 The truth is that close combat turrets along with light hull were a leap in the dark. Limited effective range guns as well as light armored tank like Hornet proved to be ineffective in my hands. I was unable to form a relationship with hit-and-run tactics and I had little experience with this equipment. I hardly ever used this equipment and practically wasted my crystals. My advise to all of you would be to measure twice and cut once! Disappointed with my previous purchases I returned to Smoky M1 and Dictator M1. When Tanki Iron days appeared with 25% discount on all turrets I risked and pumped my Warrant Officer 5 rank up crystals into another untested equipment when I get myself Ricochet M1. 10/10 Despite the unfavorable discount, Ricochet turned out to be a really fun turret to play with. Its forte demonstrated in urban areas. Fort Knox, Island, Garder, Pass and many other maps with lot of walls or houses were perfect for the special bouncing ability. I shifted my focus mainly on small and medium maps and quickly befriended gameplay in Noise CTF, because Ricochet really excelled there. I often left my enemies in awe, making them wonder from where the shot arrived and how could anyone fire from such angle. On the same Iron days sales as Ricochet, I bought one of very few paints in my garage – Safari. The only reason for this purchase was the commonness of Isida M2 around Lieutenant ranks. At that time, Safari paint offered 20% protection from Isida, and although it wasn't the best protection, it still managed to at least lessen Isida's deadly effects. 5/10 My last M1 purchase was Twins M1 that I got on May's 25% sales as a young Third Lieutenant. I went for Twins M1 because I was hungry for new equipment that would suit my main hull, Dictator M1. 11 10/10 This truly trolly turret banks on functioning conjunction of Spacebar and brick. Twins M1 was freakin' overpowered and easily tore through enemies. My Lieutenant rank enemies usually didn't possess any M2 hulls other than Hornet and their attacking spirit usually broke against my plasma shot barrage. I preferred Twins with medium Dictator or sometimes with heavy Titan. It's effective turret that was quite easy to handle. Product Kits - The M2s and Early M3s I finally climbed to the ranks that opened the doors to M2, but Twins M1 could easily challenge almost any early M2 equipment and so I decided to go a different road. My aim was to purchase a kit containing M3 equipment and so while others were spending their crystals on lower modifications, I somehow endured the lure of Tanki's 50% birthday sales and kept on saving. After about one and half months, shiny glow materialized over my tank and I reached the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. I've got over 300k crystals that were loafing around in my wallet. Soon enough, Bulldozer kit reappeared and I immediately invested in it. I also bought Dictator M2, once again irrationally without any sale, because as predicted, that oversized elephant from the kit was too slow. 9/10 8/10 8.5/10 Bulldozer was my first experience with kits and consisted of Thunder M3, Mammoth M2 and Emerald. Thunder M3 inflicted massive damage per shot and I was able to finish most of the enemies in two max three shots. Thunder's special feature, splash damage, was also handy for damaging seemingly hidden enemies or multiple enemies at once. Thunder was very common turret around these ranks but only very few players had final M3 modification. Having M3 equipment two ranks before majority of players gave me a huge advantage. I didn't appreciate the snail-like Mammoth, but it could take hits and proved to be a good choice in Deathmatches or small map battles. Last component, the Emerald paint with 42% Thunder protection and 26% Twins protection offered decent coverage. The minor 10% Railgun protection did not make much of a difference, but it could have been useful later in XP/BP format for Wasp. Bulldozer served me well, but as I progressed through ranks with it, the number of players with protection paints from Thunder (mainly Cedar and Rustle) increased rapidly. It was evident that Thunder will not be able to win me all the battles. That was the reason I bought Atlas kit on memorable day of x5 battle funds. 8/10 9.5/10 6/10 With Atlas I gained some equipment variety on M2 level. Atlas was pretty cheap M2 kit. For around 190k crystals, I got a great turret, the better one of the two heavy hulls (imo) and a paint with protection against pesky Firebirds. It was extremely hard to cover yourself from both Smoky and Thunder simultaneously because there weren't many Thunder/Smoky protections at that time. So when I was cornered with my Thunder, I quickly changed to Smoky which usually solved the problem. Although I already owned a heavy hull, Titan expressly dominated in statistics over Mammoth. Loam was more of one-turret-protection paint, but anyone who experienced the gameplay those days, knows how valuable was Firebird protection. From economic point of view, Atlas kit was a bargain. I nolifed so hard on x5 battle funds that I was able to collect over 140k crystals. That made me squint at another addition to my kit collection. On Brigadier, lot of Viking kits with various turrets popped up, and there sure was one that caught my eye. And so, approximately two weeks before Tankers Day, Jackhammer enhanced the kit repertory of my garage. 9.5/10 10/10 9/10 As the kit name implies, Hammer is one of the components. This powerful M3 turret was able to deal almost 270 damage points in one clip. That was enough to destroy any tank around Brigadier rank. Moreover, pellets' diffusion allowed me to hit multiple enemies, while impact force raised the tanks from asphalt. Additionally, it took only just two seconds to reload the clip and the range was astonishingly long. I simply couldn't wish for more. Viking M3, the first M3 medium tank you could unlock, was absolute balance between protection and speed and I was very satisfied with it. The kit was very versatile and worked well on every battlefield. Tiger reminded me of Savanna. It possessed perfect mid-long range protection from Hammer and Smoky and with some micro-upgrades it also covered your butt from Railgun. 10/10 When I built up my crystal count again I bought Isida M3 on 40% Tankers day sale. The most versatile of all, moving repair kit on tracks, Isida was simply great. You could fiercely attack while self-healing or just stand by and provide a healing support for teammates, without endangering yourself, without using many supplies and still gaining a ton of experience points. If you were looking for cheap turret that will feed your rank bar with loads of points or eventually crystals, Isida was perfect choice. And this is were I will pause it now. I hope you enjoyed this rundown. In second part, I will cover the rest of my M3 garage purchases and Micro-upgrades. Remember to share with us what will your next purchase be. Also if you enjoy garage analysis check the work of other reporters in the archive.- 10 replies

I don't think so. Most of the sections (if not all) that store older topics are called this way, so I don't think we crossed any line with this term.

Hello everyone. Sorry for the delay, I was temporarily unavailable. The contest is now over. Results will be posted in the Issue 67 (1st of September).

Announcement Attention: Reworked Amateur Section
Flexoo replied to Flexoo in Attention: Reworked Amateur Section Writers' Corner
Hello, writers! Amateur Writing section was established more than a year ago and we are really happy you're still posting your work here. In those 14 months or so, you managed to create almost 500 topics, some of them of substantial quality that is on par with those of Newspaper. We definitely want to support every writer in this community and create a suitable, fair writing environment. Based on preliminary discussions with project assistants, we decided to implement few changes that will bring more organization to the section and solve few problems like topic bumping. We divided the section into two parts. The main section that will contain the announcements and the most recent topics posted by you and the Amateur Writing Archive that will store the older articles. In other words, new topics will no longer be buried by the bumped old topics and will receive their spotlight. Older topics (older than 60 days) will still be accessible in the Archive section. Amateur Writing helpers will maintain the section at regular intervals. We hope you'll find this reworked system more attractive. Best regards, Flexoo, Newspaper Administrator.- 8 replies
