So, I can’t find good diagrams of the RPG-7 that aren’t in Russian. But I did find a HowStuffWorks (https://science.howstuffworks.com/rpg3.htm) article on the RPG-7. As far as I can tell, there is a booster stage, and a sustainer stage. This is just a multi-stage rocket, there is no ejection charge. The back end of the launch tube is open, allowing exhaust gasses to escape out the back! If there was an ejection charge, then it would be like firing a breech loading cannon with the breech open. There could be no pressure build up, because the expanding gasses would escape out the back without shoving the projectile out. There is a small explosive charge, but it fires after launch to eject the first stage and deploy stabilizing fins. Here is a slow-motion video of the RPG-7, there is no recoil. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=P439jWJTQ-0

Tanks rock backwards when firing an ordinary gun. Recoil. If the tank was in neutral, it would roll backwards. The M72 does not have a pre-ignition ejection charge. There is a small amount of powder, but it's in a "flash tube", and is a sort of fuse. There is still no recoil, and the powder does not move the rocket at all.

Have it your way! Striker is ejected with something, like a powder charge or a pressurized gas. I calculated striker’s recoil with an ejection charge. The initial speed of the projectile, according to the wiki, is 25 m/s, and the mass might be around 5kg (a RPG-9 HEAT projectile weights 4.5kg). Viking has a mass of 2600kg. M1v1=m2v2. (25)(5)=(2600)(resulting velocity of Viking?) =50/2600=0.019m/s resulting backwards velocity from ejecting a rocket. That means the tank moves backwards at 0.07 kilometers per hour due to the recoil of an ejection. This is far less than what is shown in the game, and is almost nothing.

The ejection charge is so the rocket exhaust doesn’t damage the surroundings or the operators, and the rocket ignites at a safe distance. If the rocket ignites while in the barrel, then what’s the point of an ejector? First off, there would be no more exhaust at launch than at any other period of the flight. So I’m missing a small amount of exhaust rear wards of the launcher. But smoke has never been accurately modeled in this game anyhow. The smoke is a modified version of the dust graphics, which only follow a tank. It would be difficult to program the smoke to be behind the initial starting point, i.e. where the projectile never was.Looking at the rear of striker, you can actually see exhaust vents, which only make sense if the ignited rocket propelled itself out without a charge. And beside, my “hypothesis” is just how the vast majority of rocket launchers work. What production rocket launcher is expelled by a charge prior to ignition? Name one. Besides submarine ICBMs.

“there's also other reasons... it's inside that pdf actually. reasons like not giving away too much of it's position (with powder discharge you don't give away your exact position, they'll still know the general direction you're in though)” The PDF is about an exotic recoilless rifle type being promoted/proposed by the presenter. You can see in the diagrams near the end, it’s clearly not a rocket. You’d be able to hear a separate ejection charge. Striker makes a steady “fwoosh” sound (as opposed to a small bang if there was an ejection charge), and the rocket is ignited from the instant it leaves the barrel. It doesn’t light when 10 meters away or something. There is no physical explanation for recoil from a rocket launcher aside from an ejection charge or some form of pressurized gas ejector.

1. Rockets don’t have countermass, even the sort that are ejected using powder prior to ignition.
-
1. I directly quoted the article you linked. It only passingly mentions rocket launchers, most of it is about recoilless rifles. It still corroborates what I say. Rockets don’t have counter mass.2. You said it was improper technique that lead to the guy getting knocked over by recoil. I provided a video of a small boy firing an RPG with no problems. 3. Exactly. That is why we have smoky and thunder and stuff. The point of rockets is to provide good firepower without needing a large or elaborate gun and recoil mechanism. 4. Even shielding the exhaust somehow wouldn’t provide the levels of recoil we are seeing.
-
That’s actually a good source. It clearly says “To fire a shoulder-launched weapon with no recoil, thetraditional method is to use either a rocket propulsion system OR a powder charge with a countermass.” The rocket systems don’t have countermass. It isn’t stupid to fire a rocket-powered weapon while standing. Here is a video of a very little kid firing a RPG (Rocket Propelled Grenade). https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=v-2N404MqwU The recoil is obviously very little, because most firearms would knock that kid over when firing! There really are vehicle mounted versions, and people know to steer clear. It’s hardly the most dangerous part of being in the armed forces. There aren’t any infantry in Tanki, and the exhaust wouldn’t harm a tank. Are you telling me striker shouldn’t have any recoil out of concern for the infantry?
-
I have no clue what happened in that video, but it is obviously a malfunction. Maybe the missile or warhead blew up prematurely. The exhaust gasses are pretty well dissipated. A person could certainly be injured, but no armored vehicle could be seriously harmed by being behind a firing missile launcher. You are confusing recoilless rifles (which have counter mass) with missiles, which inherently have no recoil and need no extra dedicated counter mass. Rocket launchers don’t have counter mass, or inherently have it, depending on your definition. A recoilless rifle has extra propellant (compared to comparable, recoiling cartridges), so it can shove gasses out the back of the rifle, creating a “recoil” in the opposite direction. (Mass of projectile) x (velocity of projectile) = (mass of gas) x (velocity of gas). Striker has missiles, which continue to propel themselves in flight, as opposed to recoilless rifles. They expel gas behind them to shove themselves forwards, and continue to do so after leaving their launch tube.

^that’s out of character with railgun. I wouldn’t like that. The instant firing would be OP.
-
No. Smoke is quite difficult, graphically speaking. And nearly all turrets would realistically have smoke, and they don’t. And if they did, the maps would get covered in smoke, and it would be hard on our graphics cards.
-
Hah, a turret alt to penalize protection modules. That’s a creative solution to the OPness of high-ranking protection modules.

Railgun “High Caliber” Impact Force balance The impact with the railgun “shell destabilization” alteration is currently increased by 20%. The impact force (and recoil?) of railgun with the “high caliber” alteration should be similarly increased. It would make mechanical sense; a larger projectile at the same speed should give more impact. Also the HC alt costs 100k crystals, as opposed to the 55k SD alt, and yet the SD alt is much better than the HC alt. Increasing the impact of the HC alteration would make it competitive alongside the destabilization alteration, which is currently quite a bit stronger than any other version of railgun.

Can you get Traceur from containers?
-
I sometimes go full columbine in a parkour battle, provided that there are no complex stunts being attempted. If it’s kinda boring and no one is doing anything, I’ll start shooting, or jumping on other tanks and mining. Parkour is a fun place to try out my old m0 equipment.

What sort of trap?

Is it best to save weekly containers?
shafter9 replied to shafter9 in Is it best to save weekly containers? Archive
So, weekly containers give you more and more stuff as you rank up. If you already have enough supplies (not critically low,) and enough crystals for whatever you are saving for/what is unlocked at your rank, does it make sense to save your weekly containers until you reach a higher rank? Do the contents depend on the rank you are at when you open the containers, or the rank you are at when you open them? You can always open them if you are getting low on stuff, and the quantity of supplies locked into the containers is increasing as you rank up, right? -
Buy boar. Ricochet is OP, rail gun isn’t performing very well at these ranks. I have rail m2 9/10 with High Caliber alteration and it still isn’t very good. Rico is best for MM battles; if you like xp/bp and various PRO battles (where you can choose long range maps) then Tornado would be better.

Why does striker have recoil? Rocket launchers don't have recoil; the velocity is gained by the expulsion of exhaust gasses, not be gaseous expansion in a barrel. this makes very little sense.
-
I predict they'll shrink titan's OD dome, and reduce viking's rate of fire in overdrive.
-
Most people have "alt accounts." The game economy is harsh, and most people make poor buying decisions on their first accounts. This was worse with the earlier MU system.
-
Rail gun seems pretty underpowered right now. I have m2 9/10 upgrades + high caliber, and I still am not doing well in MM battles. Is the destabilization alt better than high caliber?
-
Well, TX’s drugging isn’t as bad, and it is a little more balanced. But I like the feel of TO, and oddly enough, the look.
-
I still like tanki. I do MM to get the missions done, and the containers at the end of a streak combined with the missions give me enough drugs to not be wholly useless. When not doing missions, I play either no-drug or space or xp/bp pro battles, which are actually fun. Recently I was in a long-range sniping contest 1vs1, both of us with Viking+shaft in lost temple, no drugs. That was fun. Also, no-drug Monte Carlo is common and also fun. Space battles are the best, if you can find a populated non-parkour one. I like alterations somewhat. I want to stick around and see what happens with the upcoming overdrives, it’ll be a major change. Maybe a good one, maybe bad. Then the devs will balance it (they’re often a bit heavy-handed, I expect Vikings OD to be nerfed), and I’ll get used to it again. The real reason, if it was an option, is that tanki can run on surprisingly crappy computers. Or else I’d’ve switched to Tank X long ago.

How did you do this? With what spreadsheet program? Also, at what point does the laser appear, when fully charged, or a little before?
