And that means I should give up on the community and not organize anything else? I don't think so. For starters, you're still here, so I think I owe you my best efforts. ;) Yeah, players left, and while it's unfortunate, there's precious little I can do about that. But at least I can work to give a good time to those who stayed. In fact, I'm already working on setting the mechanisms in motion. It might not happen tomorrow or next week, but it will happen.

Hey, thanks for saying that. It's amazing how much a "thank you" sweetens the deal. :)

There were a number of things that pushed us back this time. We were busy with sorting out the details of the nicknames database update, which pushed everything behind schedule. What's more, once the V-LOG script is finalized in English, the other CMs need to translate it and create subtitles for it. And since I'm trying to the V-LOG published with all subtitles ready (for the benefit of non-English speakers), this slows things down even more. We're working on finding ways to make the process more efficient, but it's obviously not easy. Thanks for your patience.

Anyone can participate in the Masters of Sword tournament. We just didn't actively promote it in the EN community as it is more centered around the RU community. Don't worry, we'll be organizing more EN events soon enough.

Hey all, for those of you who caught the vanishing stunt of this post, sorry about the sudden "appearance and disappearance". I was testing out a scheduling system to post at a certain time, but... as you might have noticed, it pretty much blew up in my face :D But hey, nothing ventured, nothing gained! Anyway, enjoy the V-LOG!!! ;)

Answers to your most asked questions : 1. How many days does an account need to stay inactive to have its nickname become available again? — The time starts from 10 days for Recruit and goes up by 10 days for every rank up to 300 days for Generalissimo. See chart in spoiler below : More information about the nicknames can be found on this wiki page: http://en.tankiwiki.com/Nicknames (A big thank you to wiki staff for staying on the ball and creating the wiki page) 2. Will it be possible to take nicknames of blocked accounts? — If an account was blocked forever for breaking game rules (e.g. hacking), then the name can eventually be used again. However, if the account name was banned for being inappropriate, then it will never become available. 3. Will it be possible to take accounts of all other inactive accounts? — Only normal player accounts will be available to take. Any test accounts, developers' accounts as well as those of staff will never become available from inactivity. 4. What name would my nickname change to if someone takes it? — Inactive nicknames get a prefix "r_" put in front of them. So if a username TANKER gets taken, the original account becomes r_TANKER. If r_TANKER was also taken, then a number from 0 to 100 is added, so the name becomes r_TANKER0 5. If my nickname does end up getting taken, how can I get the name I want on my original account? — You can request a nickname change by sending an email to help@tankionline.com. And yes, in this case the change will be free of charge. Keep in mind that you will only be able to change it to an available nickname and the only way for you to get your original name back is if the person who took your name becomes inactive. 6. If I am inactive in the game for almost 1 year, but I use the forum everyday, will my account be renamed? Forum activity is not considered game activity. Therefore, if a player is active in the forum, but is not active in the game, his/her account will be considered inactive and will be renamed according to procedure. 7. If I don't have an email address linked to my account, and my nickname is changed, that means I won't be able to log into my account! What should I do then? Don't worry. All you need to do is contact Customer Support and they'll be able to help you. All nickname renaming procedures will be logged, so they'll be able to tell you your new nickname, which will allow you to log into your account.

Nicknames Database Update
theFiringHand replied to theFiringHand in Nicknames Database Update News Archive
Tankers! I'm sure many of you have tried to create a cool niсkname in Tanki, only to find out that that nickname is not available, and even worse, that its user hasn’t even played in a very long time! The great news is that we’re implementing a new system aimed at solving this problem. First of all, only the nicknames of inactive accounts will be released. An account is considered “inactive” if it hasn’t been used to enter to the game for a certain length of time (depending on the rank). For example, for a Generalissimo account the period is around one year. For accounts that have been used to purchase crystals, the minimum period of inactivity is extended to 3 years from the date of the last purchase, regardless of the account’s rank. An inactive nickname will only become publicly available if someone tries to register it. At that point, one of two things can happen: If the inactive account isn’t linked to a valid email address, the new user will be able to register the nickname. If the inactive account is linked to a valid email address, the original owner will receive an email notification informing him/her that someone wants to claim the nickname. From that moment, the original owner of the account will have one week to reactivate his/her account by using it to enter the game. If he/she fails to do so within that timeframe, the new user will be able to register the nickname. Important information for those who are worried about losing their tank! First of all, don’t worry! Even if you lose your nickname, you will NOT lose your account. In fact, inactive accounts will simply be renamed to free up the nickname, and you will still be able to access your account, even if it has lost its nickname. To lose your nickname, all of the following events need to have happened: you did not enter the game for a very long time; someone tried to register your nickname; you didn’t notice a letter telling you that someone else has tried to register your nickname; someone tried to register your nickname a second time; After all of the above has happened, your inactive account will be given a new nickname. If after losing your nickname and being given a new one, you decide to return to the game, you’ll be able to continue playing with this new nickname (keeping all of the achievements, garage items, and crystals that you had), or you can choose a different name by using the email linked to your account, or by contacting Tanki Online technical support service. We hope that with this new system, you’ll finally be able to choose a cool nickname without having to use a bunch of additional symbols!- 260 replies

I know about those extra 6 seconds. The point is though, that those 6 seconds did not contribute in any way to make the winner's entry better. Hence my decision.

Quick update, I have contacted all (except two) of the runners-up in the non-RU community (those are being dealt with by the RU CM) via pm to ask them whether they want the hull OR the turret they created. Two of the runners-up couldn't be contacted via pm because their names weren't coming up in the om field. I'll be looking for ways to contact them to find their preference. Benzodiazepine, can you please confirm that you've received my PM?

Hey all, Please note the update in the original post. I've been informed that the Video of the Week is a stolen entry. Full details in the original post. Situation is resolved. Big thanks to those who pointed it out.

It's good to know that some people are taking this attitude. I wish you the best of luck with the next contest. And thank you for your sportsmanship. Winning is fun, but being in a good community and enjoying the companionship definitely comes in as a close second :) Don't worry, I'll be contacting you (and the other runner-ups) in an hour or so to find out whether you want the turret or hull. You're obviously on my list. Yeah, I absolutely loved the pasta one. As I said, I'm a huge foodie. When Kasim saw how I voted for the food entries, he called me a "glutton" lol. And he's definitely right. :D
-
Thanks. In reality it's not diplomacy. I'm just trying to make you guys realize that I appreciate all of your efforts, and that I'm saddened by the fact that some of you are upset about the results, even though this was inevitable. It's called "empathy". It's what makes us human (at least that's what I like to think) :)

Hi all, First of all, those of you who didn't win, or who didn't place as highly as you would have wished, I understand your disappointment, especially when it took you so much work to create your tank. However, I need you to understand something important. There were 6 people voting, and not everyone had the same opinion of what made a good entry. Ultimately, we took the average of every vote for every piece of work and decided accordingly. For instance, I'm a huge foodie, so I really loved the food-related entries. But the other judges didn't share my opinion. Ultimately, it is a SUBJECTIVE judgement. Art is subjective matter. If you have any doubts about that, you can spend a couple of minutes finding out how a canvas covered in blue paint with a strip of white running through, can sell for $43 million. Read that again. That's Forty-Three MILLION US dollars... not cents... not crystals... but dollars. The article is here: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2324723/Newman-abstract-painting-sells-43m-NY.html No, I'm not trying to ridicule your claim. Not at all. I am a musician and I've taken part in many contests where I felt our band deserved at least a modicum of recognition, but had to swallow my pride and leave empty-handed. It hurts like hell. But the way I see it, I make music because I love music FIRST, and because I want recognition and accolades SECOND (and I'm not even sure they even rank that high in my list of priorities). So even though it leaves a bitter taste when my band doesn't win, at least I'm consoled by the fact that I'm doing something I love. My question to you is, did you enjoy making your tank? Because if you did, that is at least a little reward in itself. There's also the satisfaction of looking at your creation and thinking, "Hey, I did that on my own, and it's unique in the world, and I had a great time making it". But if you hated every minute of making your tank, and you only entered the contest for the crystals and rewards, then I think you might want to rethink you priorities a little bit. Not saying you should; it's just a suggestion. As for other issues mentioned in this thread, I'll try to handle as much as I can. At this point in time, I still haven't had the time to look through all 40 pages of posts. The reason is that I'm working 12 to 14 hours a day trying to wrap my head around what needs to be done to make a great community. And this being my first week as lead CM, I've barely just scratched the surface. Thankfully, I'm surrounded by some great people whom I can trust completely, and they do ease quite a bit off my shoulders. Once again, I'm sorry some of you are disappointed with the results in this contest. We created this contest in good faith, wanting to give you a really good time. But as in everything in life, you can never please everybody. That said, I know quite a bit of you had a good time (even some of those who didn't win). So that at least gives me some satisfaction. All I can say is, we'll try even harder next time.

Episode 87 of the V-LOG is here
theFiringHand replied to theFiringHand in Episode 87 of the V-LOG is here VLOG archive
Tankers! Another V-LOG is here, keeping you updated on the latest happenings and upcoming news in the world of Tanki Online. In this episode, we’ll be announcing the winners of the Craft-A-Tank contest. We’ll also be telling you about a cool new update that’s coming soon, and sharing with you some Pro tips on an unusual topic. Check out episode 87 of the V-LOG right now. =========UPDATE========= It has been brought to my attention that the Video of the Week in this episode is actually a stolen entry. After investigating, we found out that the original owner of the video is I_N-V_I-N_C-I_B-L_E The video was an entry for a Parkour Contest in the DE Community, and placed 2nd in the final results. The original video can be found here. The prize crystals have been removed from the user who stole the entry, and should already have been issued to the proper owner of the video. I would like to personally extend my apologies to I_N-V_I-N_C-I_B-L_E and to you guys for the incident. I'll be doing my best to not let this happen again. =========UPDATE========= Question of the Week Video of the Week submissions Craft-A-Tank Winners- 103 replies

Man, chill. This was a contest for fun, and some days of premium. I did not have to organize this. It wasn't even planned originally. But I figured you guys would have some extra fun with it, so I figured I'd go the extra mile and make these celebrations that little bit more special. Thankfully, everybody else seems to have had fun with this contest (and the Fool Days event in general), so I guess there WAS something good about it. In light of this, I think your comments are really uncalled for. So let's just end this argument please.

Hey, just noticed this. Thank you for taking the time to write here. It really means a lot to me, especially since I know how well loved Semyon is :) I'll do my best to keep alive what's great in this community, and also use my experiences from other jobs to make this an even cooler place. You have my word.

Please, let's not speculate and pull out numbers from thin air. The only people who know the percentages of drops are the programmers, because they created them. So please, stop spreading misinformation. Go out and have fun catching gold boxes.

Hey all, Since it's now April 2nd, I just wanted to set the record straight on the "new supplies" thing. No, the "new supplies" mentioned in the V-LOG were an April Fool's joke. Some of you got that right away, others didn't, and other still had fun circulating the false rumors for a laugh. Of course, it was all done in the name of some good old fun, so I honestly hope everybody can look back at yesterday and laugh about it. ;) In the meantime, have a great time with the rest of the Fool Days celebrations, and make sure you check out the Fool's Gold contest happening right now.
