The answers to their game related questions are easily obtained by checking Wiki and Help pages of Tanki and they have enough info so far to start reading them. The rest of their questions (which are in majority) were personal and completely irrelevant to game mechanics so they'll survive without an option to ask them. Oh, don't you worry :D And thank you.

Precisely. One of the issues is that many players regard Tanki as an online chat room, not a game. One of the results of this change is that at least some of them will have to actually play in order to rank, and by doing that they'll perhaps change their perspective and starting seeing Tanki for what it is - a game. For the record, I was never interested in chatting myself, I simply played... it was never hard to rank when you spend hours daily just playing. I beg to differ - it takes more than a couple of hours to get to Master Sergeant from the scratch. As for multiple accounts, it's fairly easy for mods to detect multiple accs of one player. When those start getting 6 months bans for bypass, players will not be able to afford spend days in order to make new account that is allowed to chat. I think the change will prove to be a good one... I happen to know that some moderators work ESPECIALLY in the servers you just mentioned... we're monitoring the current situation and will adjust if necessary.

I can assure you that chat mods are never protecting anyone nor are working in favour of someone. They are neutral and have the rules which they follow. You can dislike them, ofc, but at least dislike them because of your own personal reasons, please do not falsely accuse anyone of wrongdoing.

I understand your point of view and I agree that it's a real problem. Blocking players from the view probably works in battles too, so I'd try that approach. The thing is that there are hundreds of battles out there and no way to moderate them all in real time. It's also not possible to deal with all the reports - if all the players start reporting profanities from each and every battle they are playing, on daily basis, mods will never see the light of the day again :D I know it all sounds like an excuse but there's really a limit in what can be done this way. In short, we need some automatic system of chat moderation in the battles, or at least automatic censoring system but I doubt it can be made and implemented at this point. That perspective is precisely why forum reports became obsolete... "getting a piece of someone" is not in our job description nor is nice. Yes, they swear and insult but frankly, most of us do. Can we change that? No. Can we help players protect themselves and / or help build a better environment on the chat? Yes, we can. At least that's what we're trying to do. More of my thoughts on that subject is here. As for your other point, as said, mods are volunteers who are doing this job gladly, but are also players of this game and they want to play a game or two with their friends. We, as administrators cannot forbid that nor we want to. It's a different point of view - I'm against rewarding players for reporting others, but rewarding them for good behaviour is something different. Of course, like most things, hard to make and implement to automatically serve all the players in this game but never the less, a good idea. I'll be glad to forward it to our CM.

To be perfectly honest with you, we're thinking of removing forum reports altogether... The whole system became obsolete with years, it now serves only a handful of Tanki players and majority of them are using the whole system as their private ban party, to provoke and frame those they want banned. It brings misery and negative atmosphere in the game with players waiting for others to make a wrong move so they can report them. And those reports are just taking moderator's time away from the chat, so we're thinking that instead of filling the need of few and their wish to feel powerful by having something to hold over others heads, we should actually do something that will benefit more players and work for the benefit of the majority... hence the education of low ranked players, hence our approach in real time, hence the ideas we send to developers... and hence our wish to spend more time on the chat, in real time then to be buried in the forum among reports.

We added this clause because of the issues and abuse in the reports made by low ranked accounts, usually alternative ones of higher ranked players.

Hello there. First of all, thanks for the inquiry and suggestion. As already stated, we previously devoted a whole topic to explain why we cannot accept reports from players under WO1 and why we all -- moderators and players alike - should think about different approaches to solve problematic issues on the chat. As one of chat admins I know for a fact that EN servers are well moderated, they simply cannot be under surveillance 24/7 since moderators are not always online. They also patrol through servers but cannot simply ran through them since they gotta take some time to assist players and answer their questions on each and every one of them. Because we feel that our role is to help players more than to serve as ban machines, especially since that won't help anyone in the longer run, we sent some ideas to developers in order to make chat more friendly and less difficult to navigate through - we expect some of them to be implemented soon. And of course, we always spend some time to educate players on different ways they can protect themselves from those who disturb them - for more info please read the topic kindly posted, especially this post and educate yourself too.

Interesting topic... nothing here makes me mad, not really. I take it at its face value - that this is a game, an entertainment, a hobby and something fun to pass time - hence, I don't get upset over it. It's not like it's important if I lose in a game or read something I disagree with. Nothing depends on it. My suggestions for those who have hate issues - if you don't like the battle, switch to another one. If you don't like some player, block them. If a number of players are bothering you - do not accept messages from everyone. If the whole chat bothers you - disable it. Take it easy, play moderately, play with friends and you'll enjoy the whole experience Tanki offers much, much more :) Relax and remember that this is just a game. And if all of the above isn't enough - simply stop playing Tanki. As easy as that. But I'm sure it won't come to that... after all, this game is a fun hobby with an interesting community that offers so much to us all.

Are you aware of the sheer number of battles that are made and played in during one day? There are hundreds of them! A whole army of mods couldn't be able to moderate all of them, all the time. And don't forget that players that are reported are the ones someone WANTED banned... let's be frank, we all know most players swear but others either don't care or don't want to report their friends / family while others cannot wait for the opportunity to frame someone. The difference is that some players are banned for the offence they made and others aren't. That's why our approach is to help players deal with violators in a way that will neutralise them for good...

The whole point is to change the way players perceive their own actions and responsibilities in this game - you can do more than just report someone...

We don't want to encourage players to report, we want to encourage them to deal with the situation at hand themselves. In most cases one player provokes, the other one insults back and gets reported/banned, even though others are to be blamed for the escalation of the situation as well. So we really wanna reach out to players and teach them not to react to provocations, to shut down & ignore those that are disturbing them in any way... Yes. Chat mods cannot and should not be used as a tool for punishment, players should know how to deal with bullies themselves. So since we're primarily being helpers, we're helping players dealing with the situation at hand by teaching them to shut the bully down. The fact that violator might offend someone again isn't something that we nor any ban can change, their parents and teachers are the ones that can and should deal with that. We cannot make someone change their attitude and character by banning him/her, that is something that comes from their home, environment, neighbourhood, school, society... Bans are necessary, I agree, but only to a point. They shouldn't be used as a means to an end. Yes. Good idea, will forward it to Cedric.

Can you READ? It's not that players with rank below WO1 can't be banned, they just cannot report. Mostly due to abuse. As for moderation, chat mods are especially active on EN servers, educating and guiding low rank players how to behave and play this game to its full potential.
