[Issue 25] Guide to the Forums: General Content

Hello tankers! This series was made with the intention to introduce new or otherwise unacquainted users with the forums that the Tanki Online servers support 24/7; providing enough information for them to efficiently utilize and navigate their own way throughout the online message board. Read, enjoy, and (hopefully) be enlightened. :) General Content The general content forum is the place to go for all your Tanki-oriented needs, musings, questions, and wonderings. It has a wide variety of sections, from reporting game violators to real moderators, to learning about paints that can't be found in your garage! It has slowly grown over the years from just hosting the General and Complaints sections, to what it is today. Read on to find out what this special forum has in store for those who know how to use it! General: http://en.tankiforum.com/index.php?showforum=23 This subforum is the namesake of the whole forum section; it is where players ask general questions about special events or the potential future(s) of the game itself. Outliers from that description are community announcements made by the English staff members, such as photoshoots with special players or staff members, and even the monthly announcement of the debut of a new edition of the beloved English newspaper. :) It also includes 3 subsections - Conversation Clubs (for non-English speakers who do not have forums for their own vernacular), Ideas and Suggestions (self explanatory), and the Archive, which is the oldest and most extensive record of English topics in the whole forum, exceeding 600 pages of locked topics from the very beginning of the English forum in 2010. Strolling through the back pages brings back memories for the oldest generation of players... FAQ: http://en.tankiforum.com/index.php?showforum=119 This section has most definitely needed the most time to be completed to the point it has been, today. The Frequently Asked Questions section offers players help in nearly every situation one could find one's self in, from looking for more crystals, to trying to resolve an inexplicable drop in your average FPS on the battlefield. So much effort has been thrown into this section, it should be a rule infringement to have not read all it contains. Its sections are as follows: Purchasing Crystals, Playing, Communicating, Crystals, Garage, Pics and Videos, Technical Issues, Account problem resolutions, and even a mini FAQ section for the Arabs in our international community. Gameplay: http://en.tankiforum.com/index.php?showforum=132 Discussion of turrets, hulls, paints, supplies usage, even battle tactics - all can be conversed about in the Gameplay forum. Though the bulk of this helpful forum is set aside for discussion of individual weapons and tanks, certain game modes can be talked about as well, such as Fire/Wasp and Hornet/Railgun matches, among others. It contains two subsections: Discussion of Turrets and Hulls, and an archive, which is empty for the time being. Violators: http://en.tankiforum.com/index.php?showforum=76 Found someone swearing in the chat, supporting a supposed crystal-hacking website, or threatening a friend of yours? All of that can be reported here, in the proper subforum. Just make sure you read the rules and list of acceptable evidence that can be used while making a report. Every accusation is studied by a real, human moderator, who will determine the validity of your report. Beware though, this is a pre-moderated forum, meaning that once you post your complaint topic, it will not be publicly visible until a moderator has looked into it. So, fret not if you don't see it up there after you post it. It has three subsections: One for Chat violators, one for game related rule breakers, and an Archive of many, miscellaneous and otherwise old reports. One who would peruse through the latter would find an interesting variety of purported illegal activities since the game's creation, such as tank corpses' shooting enemies, tanks flying around the map, and even players who hacked all the crystal drops to be deposited directly on top of their own tank! Don't get any ideas though - you will be caught. Problems and [their] Solutions: http://en.tankiforum.com/index.php?showforum=131 If you are having problems in the game that does not include a human element, then this is the place to go. This helpful forum, which is patrolled actively by our faithful moderators, offers help with difficulties dealing from low FPS to ever-recurring fatal errors! Though a single player may not frequent it very often, this is most definitely a necessary part of the forum for all those who wish to play in it unhindered! It has an archive subsection, of varying problems that have been resolved in the past. Up next: The Press section!

[Issue 25] Mines: On the Battlefield

Ow, that Railgun shell hurt! Your Hunter only has a few bits of energy left after that, and you’re carrying the flag! It’s a very close game - the score is tied, and the next flag capture wins the match! Who is going to break first? You, or them? It’ll be you if you don’t do something about that oncoming Hornet/Isida coming around the corner! You stay still for a moment, get your surprise ready, then you run as quickly as you can away from the mechanical vampire. As you start firing your Twins in the your drugging enemy’s direction, you see his tank pop up into the air, spin once on its tail, and fall over, upside down. To rub in your smart play, you retreat back to cover, where your opponent has yet to self-destruct - taunting him with your being so close to him, while he is unable to do anything other than take up space. Such is the power of mines! After having been acquainted with the game’s newest supply in Issue 24, you are now ready to explore its uses in battle. Mines can be used in a plethora of ways, either defensive or offensive- it really is up to you. For Defense The classic use of these guys is to plant them around a camping spot, a flag, or a flag holder’s hiding spot. And, there is reason behind this method’s popularity: It works, and pretty well, too! Often times, players know to plant mines in places with limited space, such as in a gateway or doorway, so that missing the mine is all but impossible for incoming hostiles. This is good when put into use en masse, as most tanks won’t be deactivated by a sole mine on the battlefield. The second, and rather less-common defensive use of mines, is as tank flippers. One should exploit the mines’ new knockback characteristics as well as possible - these guys are capable of putting even Dictators out of commission! Only two criterion need to be satisfied for this form of usage; Said mine should be deployed somewhere other tanks drive by often. Also, the mine should be set where tanks’ inertia shifts directions a bit, as to catch them at their most unstable/vulnerable moment. Ideal places would be around forced corners (where the map permits turns in only one direction or path), or on the edges of commonly used ledges, or even right at the top of a ramp or slop to a bridge. All these places, when booby trapped with a mine, can be extremely frustrating, even for the most experienced of tankers. Note: Unless in a (Team) Deathmatch, it’d be wise to let the victim of your trickery remain in that position for as long as possible. This is because, the sooner they are destroyed, the sooner they respawn and become pains to the rest of your team. Mines are also good in melee fights. Often times in close-range battles, tanks like to charge into each other head-on, to see if they can either shove their enemy off a cliff, or just knock their turret up and out of the way, rendering it benign. During encounters like these, I like to give my opponents some pushes and changes of direction for a little while, then lay a mine, stay on top of it, and back up slowly once it’s activated, if they’re still pushing. Then, I love seeing their overeagerness get the best of them (and their tank), flipping them on either their side or back, giving my team a better chance to capture a flag. For Offense Admittedly, this little weapon is typically a defensive tool. However, it is in fact a weapon, and it can be used as such. Two typical uses are as follows: When you see a an enemy below you, from atop a ledge or higher platform, you can easily aim, and drop yourself on top of your unsuspecting foe, planting a mine as soon as you leave the upper level you were just on. You need not wait to be physically on top of him, because mines are planted on the ground directly underneath your tank. This is effective on nearly every kind of tank, provided one has a short-range weapon to finish off whatever the mine left for you. This is particularly helpful when trying to take out an enemy Shaft on the more dynamic maps in Tanki Online - they won’t even notice you land on them if they’re in sniper mode. More about this can be found in an article by Valletta here. Second, spawn-mining. This is when a particularly cruel mine layer drops a mine underneath where an enemy tank is about to respawn, or where it is about to go. This works on less experienced players and heavier tanks such as Titan or Mammoth - neither of which move much before their tank becomes tangible. And, if you want to be really mean to your enemies, you and your team can take over the opposing team’s base, and lay mines at all your adversaries’ spawn points, killing them as soon as they are able to start fire at you. Thanks for reading! Ask any questions you want below, and I'll have them answered within a few days!

    [Issue 25] 6K - 13K Crystal Paint Review

Mary - 6.5K 5% Smoky, 5% Twins, 14% Freeze A good coating for the earliest ranks! At one point, Mary was one of the three most expensive paints that offered no protection, priced at 2,000 crystals before the economic rebalance. It was a popular clan paint, as it looked cool and had no resistance - an old necessity for clan wars of years gone by. Delving into its uses and resistances, it’s fairly obvious that Mary has no legitimate camouflaging capacities, as no props or images in the game have a consistent White-Red complexion. So, I would advise against buying this paint if you like hiding in shallow shrubbery with your Shaft or other long-range weapon. Despite its very supportive description in the garage, I find its text somewhat misleading - 5% resistance to anything, even at the lower ranks, is not very good at all! Maybe microupgraded up a few points, it might be noticeable, but most certainly not at first! It’s only beneficial attribute is its decent resistance to the Freeze turret. That 14+ % may buy a tanker enough time to turn his tank and destroy his [literally] cold-hearted assailant. This paint is most definitely a good buy in that respect. It is only slightly better than the lower-priced Lava paint due to its existent, albeit minuscule resistances to Smoky and Twins. This is a paint for medium-hull attackers who want to be able to take on a Freeze with some confidence. Close-range weapons would be best with Mary. Storm - 9K 6% Freeze, 20% Firebird The little brother of Loam has its uses. This purple coating is not very special in the camouflage department, though its values make up for it, since one won’t need camouflage to use this paint in the best way possible. Since it offers a pretty good rate of resistance against the fastest damaging gun in the game, Firebird, and an OK say against annoying Freezes, the ideal tank/weapon combo to use with this would be something light with a close range weapon - something along the lines of Wasp/Freeze, for fast getaways from recently frozen opponents. Beware: don’t go charging in with a blaze of glory, because that’s what you’ll die in, too. Try to sneak up to the flag, freeze as many enemies as quickly as you can, and hightail it back to base! Carbon - 13K 5% Twins, 5% Shaft, 20% Smoky Behind Mary, this is the cheapest paint in the game that offers resistance against three weapons. However, since two of these are but 5%’s, they will hardly be calculated in this review. (Microupgrading those parameters can bring some notable benefits, however!) This coat’s main protection is against Smoky, which is crucial nowadays with its spontaneous and deadly critical hit capabilities. Taking this (and pretty much only this) into consideration, this paint would best be used in medium-range battles, where Smokies seem to find their domain. Any medium hull would be well-used with this, along with a medium-range weapon of your own, such as Ricochet, Thunder, or maybe even Twins. Help the flag back to base, but don’t go in for it!
  5. Transformers 4 I liked G1 in the 80's better, story and character-wise, but the action was amazing. :D

    [Issue 25] Poem: Explosions

Explosions I still remember day one. You walked through the door, and found me there, just sitting. You weren't sure what to make of me, if I would suit your needs or not. You were skeptical, Much like your mindset when you meet other people. I knew that, and quite a few other things, as well. You tried me out. It took some time for me to get to the first one. I was trying to find my way. When I finally rounded a corner and arrived, you opened your drowsily closing eyes, and woke with a start. You tried to get used to me, and like everyone else, you did, after the first few times. You were conservative - I liked that, not dying much for crazy reasons and all. We did well most of the time, and after a little while, you decide to treat me to some goodies. You bought me things that made me better, and every time I changed a little on the outside, I felt a little better on the inside- My character was developing, and I hoped it was in the direction you liked. A few times had passed by both of us, we were spending a lot of time together now. You never talked to me though - I don't think you know how good our conversations could have been. I know all about you, from what you've been saying to others while I've been around. Maybe it's better this way- at least I'm not scaring you. I've been doing all the work, and you've been doing all the thinking. I don't tire easily, so I don't mind, especially since you've still been giving me things. I take the abuse, you take the responsibility. I get the Explosions, you get the bans. We played with each other for a long time; We had seen each other through a lot of times, good and bad. I guess the former outruled the latter, since I don't see you anymore. I just stay here, in the same room you first found me. This dust feels heavier than it looks. But I wait for you. Always hoping. Always dreaming. Of explosions.

  12. No, sorry, the damage varies, though the explosion force is a constant. It's the same thing with a Railgun shot, if you get that. :) And colors imply whose mine it is, in different game modes. In team games, mines of a color belong to that team, while in DM's, green ones are your own and yellow ones are everybody else's.
  13. In all of my forever? Isida and Railgun from the old days, for sure. And recently, probably freeze.

    I Want To De-Rank please

EXP point reductions are possible by administrators at TO HQ only. OP, you have a lot more ranks to get through, so just make sure to invite your buddies to your next one. ;) Also, this is but a game- if someone's upset at you for making a mistake on it, then I question why you two are friends to start out with. Play on!

It'd be a sine graph with a period of ((2 x pi)/ 7),amplitude of 4, with its 'first' rendition of the graph starting at y=0, x=((5 x pi)/14), extending forever both right and left, but never obtaining a y-value out of the range of (-4, 4).

    Double Battle Funds!

    Awesome! Thanks guys!
  18. OP, I guarantee that most people do not think that way, trying to keep other players from getting turrets and such. I voted for Rail this sale simply because I did not have it, and wanted to see how it handled, and fulfill an old objective of mine. I know my mindset is uniquely mine, but most people don't try to turn discounts into tactical economic advantages over other players.

[Issue 24] Poem: A Home in the Void

A Home in the Void Whoa, light Is this bright? I can’t tell Though I know I’m doing well. I’m getting fuller without a doubt. Check all these little guys out! That one’s blue, this one’s red But why are they making each other dead? Zooming around, I see them all go, But, do they know? Do they know how I care for them; How, once they die, I go and revive them? I like watching all these figures playing their games, It feels like it’s what I was made to do. I see two groups forming, both on my opposite sides. Why are they doing this? I see them all saying ‘Go’ to each other. Why is that? They’re shooting at each other! But they’re all so wonderful and interesting to watch… Why would they be doing this to each other? As one of their owns energy levels fades, I quickly act, Breathe life into them again, and put them back with their friends, Away from their aggressors, in hope to keep some peace on this… Battlefield? A smaller group grows in size, As they begin to traverse my side. Their smallest, fastest one goes For the object of so many woes. He gets picked off From a sniper way off But his tailing friend Takes the prize and curves around a bend. A large mess of them forms, And I am left to reinstate all their forms. 0:1 I now notice they don’t know me. They’re unconscious, void of sight when they’re in my care. It was a sad thing to realize at first, that my work couldn’t be appreciated In the way I wanted it to be. But, I understood it was best this way, So they could get back to having fun, not worrying about anything else. I started to get a hang of what they were doing. It’s a team sport, were they try to get my flags to touch each other, while one is in its original position. They use lots of neat strategies. I like it when they talk with each other, It reminds of how smart my precious little guys are... After a few bold moves on either side, the tally has changed. 5:5 I’m so glad they’re doing this well, I think it’s time one of my presents fell. I make an announcement, like I do for their flags, And most of them stop what they're doing, and pray against lags. From the top I let it go, And what a sight it is, this drug show! As it nears to the ground I can practically hear the sound Of everyone giddily screaming, And that always ends with me feeling like beaming. I take a quick glance at my time, and see that it is nearly expired. I signal the news to everyone, by having my time blink for them. They still don’t know who I am. Not really, not consciously. They all start speaking at once, commenting on what they had just witnessed And experienced. They all sounded satisfied, and I gave them their rewards For spending so much time with me. I’m glad they enjoyed their time with me. I wish they’d stay and play on me again. Battle restarts in: 05 Exit? One by one, they all depart, And, inside, I lose a part. I am now empty at last, And have a moment to reflect on my past. As I look at my range, I feel something strange. I know there will be no more flags, blue nor red. I know that I am now...
  20. Finally got Dictator M3 and Railgun M3, for the first time in 4.5 years! No one here can understand how happy I am right now.
