What are some weird and rarely seen combos that are actually good?

It's not a ''weird and rarely seen'' combo. In each dm battle, there's like at least 1 person abusing it with hyperion. 

My opinion would be rail/wasp.

You can actually be pretty aggressive if you use heavy capacitors and can even go in close range if the opponents have no protection, so it's pretty nice to have some extra speed to sneak in some flags or whatever (or just to run away honestly). Works surprisingly well. There's that rapid fire augment for shaft that could be better in close range I guess, but I like heavy capacitors more because of the added damage in sniper mode. It also reloads fast enough in arcade mode.

Both heavy and light are pretty fun to use. I personally used to use light just because (i don’t rly play anymore so that’s why the past tense) 2k damage not too shabby and trying to do some mobiel sniping was always (usually) fun. Heavy right now can have people raging if u camp ?

Hornet-Shaft main here and I can confirm that's how we do it. At the worst, I can inflict 2,062 damage if the defending tank has maxed Eagle (good enough to 2HKO medium/heavy tanks but takes longer). Dynamic HC is possible but... really risky (and fun maybe).

Do LH charge up damage or reload scope shots faster than stock? Either of them needs to be better than stock to justify using it

LC? It does charge up + recharges quicker than stock, except its final damage is 1/4 less.

HC charges up + recharges slower than stock, but with significantly more damage.

IDK even know why stock takes 14.5 seconds to reload @ M0 (10 seconds @ MK8), it should be flat 10 seconds across all modifications.

Is the 50% faster reload worth the 25% reduced damage though? I think it would be in close combat if you cant one-shot medium and light hulls anyway.

Try hornet/wasp with rail scout, its decent with crisis even in its current situation. 

The only issue sometimes is the absurd amount of rail protections people generally take in battle.

No things should be flat X across all modifications. Mk7 should be better than mk1 in every aspect even if it barely makes a difference.

I mained Shaft and Firebird since maybe 2013 here is my 2,1289 cents on Shaft.

1. If we're keeping the ABSURDLY LONG reload time after fully charged sniping shot Shaft HAS TO DEAL 4k damage to hull without prot without the need of damage augments. If you gate it behind a booster or MAXIMUM DAMAGE MODE Crisis then it's... Still ok i guess.

2.  If we're changing the reload time then it should be 5 seconds MAXIMUM instead of current 7. (10?? WHAT? WHEN DID THEY DO THAT?). bUt DoKaN 5 sEcOndS oN sHAft iS oP!!1!1 No it's not. 3300 damage every 5 seconds + what 2-3 seconds it takes to fully charge is NOT OP at all.

Compare this to Gauss. almost 7 seconds for easy 1700 damage + monster splash damage that you get most of the time. Also your screen doesn't get zoomed in WHICH IS A HUGE ADVANTAGE and if the enemy runs away you don't get stuck in sniping mode unless you want to waste 10 years of your life. 

Magnum 2800 per 6ish seconds + EXTREME magnum advantages that we all know and "love".

Shaft just makes sense with 5 second reload at Mk8. Extra charging time makes it 7-8 seconds that's without you finding an enemy to shoot and all the other things that people do when they don't have years of experience with it. 

I'm not being bias towards Shaft. Yeah I use it but I couldn't care less if it gets changed since I'm easily getting first place with it anyway. I'm talking about average Shaft users.

I remember getting into the match with x2 railgun prots so I equipped railgun just because it's been a minute since I used it. It jumped to x8 railgun prots in a single minute.

Railgun is not that OP people...

Booster/Crisis

Healing shaft/ Triplet shaft/ AP shaft.

Liked Stun Shaft before because it was very fun but for some reason i stopped using it lol i guess it got nerfed or something

you can use anything you want but these hulls give more advantages with shaft whether it be helpful OD or a lot of HP

healing shaft (or thunder) + paladin makes a pretty nice healer too

since we're talking about hulls /w shaft, i've been really enjoying using my light caps shaft with either medium hover hull rather than a tread hull cause i can start scoping while i drift to peek and already have some scope charged. also a pro tip: you can hold right click while scoped to look around a little without having to turn your turret :ph34r:

I use right click all the time to trick players into thinking im aiming somewhere else ?

ahh.... old times when i would need to trick people and sit in sniping mode for a long time.

Pro tip: squeeze as much damage as possible from shaft.

pro tip 2: don't even bother tricking or hiding your laser. You can literally just point it at a random place and wait for tanks to willingly drive into it and get killed because for some reason some people just don't care lol

 

I just realised i have 4.5 million XP with Shaft on this account which is enough to go from Recruit to LEGEND 14 and a HALF.

Btw, do how do you think Shaft LC compares in damage output per min to medium range turrets? Just a guesstimate, not asking you to calculate it or anything. Does it feel powerful compared?

LC shaft per minute with somewhat unrealistic conditions puts out 15k damage per minute. 

Smoky - 38k 

Striker - 33k

Vulcan - 48k

Thunder 27k

*no crit shots.

*VERY UNREALISTIC conditions you'd need aimbot and enemies showing up constantly.

*only sniping shots of shaft.

*no augments on turrets. all of them mk8.

*striker without lock on on the enemy.

*no damage boosts and enemies have no armor boosts

So LC shaft is pretty bad in terms of raw damage per minute but i'd imagine range compensates for the damage lost.
