Does anyone else wish that Tanki's maps looked like the background of the maps?

What do you mean ? I'm confused ?

oh of course you are.

let the Wise Man shine some light into your thick headed skull.

the gentleman by the name of demon09 says that it would be cool if the outer unplayable parts of the map would be the actual playable parts.
Now would this be a good idea? NO. these areas of the maps should be left "unplayable" because they are not intended to be playable besides parkour. while it would make for a very unique gameplay experience probably the players would quickly realise how trash the map is due to how much chaos these areas have. chaos that should be left untouched by the greasy tracks of a tanki player. look at massacre barely any chaos and how hated the map is

I extend my heartfelt gratitude, noble sir! The profound depth of your sagacious insight was precisely the illumination required to unravel the intricacies of this perplexing and enigmatic text.

Ohhhh, now I get it, but that doesn't seem much fruitful.

Correct, those textures and extra areas are only for visual improvement in the maps for players to not think they are playing in a box. It's a plus point that all maps do not have the same playing area, and thus we have small, medium and large maps to inculcate different amount of players every single time.

Those areas are allowed to look cooler because their design doesn't affect the map's gameplay. Unfortunately, it's a lot more complicated to have a playable area that plays well AND looks good, because whenever a map designer wants to place an object in the playable area (let's say, the giant crawler machine), the level designer needs to study how that object will interact with every single game mechanic, asking questions like:

  • Will tanks get stuck when they bump into it?
  • Will it block important line of sight?
  • Will it block Magnum/Scorpion projectiles too much?
  • Will Hopper be able to jump on top of it?
  • Will Ricochet shots bounce off its surfaces correctly?
  • Will explosive shots deal splash damage off it correctly?
  • Will Shaft be able to snipe through the gaps?
  • Will rugby balls get stuck on it if thrown?
  • etc.

Since all of these questions (and more) need to be anwered for every fancy new prop that gets added to the playable area, at some point the map designers just draw a line and stick to the same set of simpler props in the playable area, while keeping all the fancy decorations in the out-of-bounds zones. Much simpler that way.

I don't mean that I want the unplayable parts of the maps to be playable, obviously that would make that the map design doesn't make sense. I mean that Tanki's maps would be more interesting if the playable parts of the maps looked like the unpalayable parts: the unevenly shaped, realistic terrain, interesting objects (new houses, vehicles and other things), huge trees and bushes, etc.

These parts of the maps reminds me of War Thunder's maps and look like actual landscapes and cityscapes, and it looks like it would be so much fun to have a battle on that kind of map.

I understand, but what about having more realistic terrain? The landscapes of the unplayable areas reminds me of miniature versions of War Thunder maps, with the realistic landscapes, the hills, large trees, etc, and looks like it would be so much fun to have a Tanki battle in that kind of realistic map, as long as there was plenty of cover, like trees and rocks.

Would this be possible?

That would be nice, but I'm afraid realistic terrain would result in another Massascre map, which everyone would hate.

I hate Massacre, and if many other people feel the same, I wish Tanki would scrap this map. They have so many good maps I remember from when you could choose your map that I never see anymore...

I'd love if the Tanki devs would let us vore for our favorite maps so they can update the matchmaker with more maps.
