Thanks ^_^ On a serious note, we both judged comparing to what I had written in the series thus far (ie were any of the entries up to the same standard?), and I was able to judge using my own ending. I believe I managed to be impartial in my judgement, and judged on the basis of rewarding what was good about people's entries, rather than focussing on what wasn't so good. During the process, it became apparent that one of the entries was exceptionally good, and though my inclination was not to award it the grand prize on the basis that it didn't quite cross the line into 'outstanding', I told loktinho that the decision was his to avoid possible bias; however, loktinho agreed with my inclination, and the grand prize wasn't awarded. I think that overall, the winners were fairly chosen and the judgement was quite accurate as a result.

As editor, it's his job to organise (and proofread) the newspaper. For example, you don't usually get articles written by the editor of a magazine in the real world, but sometimes they write forewords or important pieces of information, which is what Conan has done in the past.

Don't forget that 2500 years ago, the Chinese, Indians, South Americans and Africans had civilisation and even sewage systems when the Europeans and North Americans were living in caves... Considering these are some of the most developing areas in the world right now, maybe history is repeating itself already.

^Yes, I admit that to be true :lol: Well, in answer to the points that you have raised, I think that whilst we cannot achieve a perfect justice, we have the opportunity to come close to it - therefore, it would make sense for us to try and get better, as being flawed does not restrict us from lessening the effects of our flaws. Also, I'd like to counter your last question with questions of my own: Is flawed justice worse than no justice at all? Does the answer to that depend on the circumstances?

For example, 'practical' intelligence (which could include things like DIY skills) could be intelligence which comes from experience of the world around us, whereas theoretical intelligenxe (which could include the understanding of scientific concepts) might be that which is natural in origin?

Yes, but it's interesting how quickly one's opinion can change due to circumstance. A contest could seem really cool when you enter it, and then suddenly seem rubbish or unfair if you don't win, for example. Often, those who are most vocally critical have selfish reasons to be so.

Yeah, you're either smart or you're not. Experiences and influence are a factor, but I'm the sole voter for the first option here. If you're not naturally intelligent, you can still work hard to get to the position of someone who may be more naturally gifted than yourself, but that doesn't mean you gain in inherent intelligence. In other words, you don't have to be a genius to outwit a genius, but on the other hand, outwitting a genius doesn't automatically make you a genius. Sorry, but in my opinion, it'd be wishful thinking to suggest that the main factor for intelligence is experience (though of course, education is definitely important) - life isn't fair, deal with it and use your strengths to your advantage. I welcome any counter-arguments ^_^

My apologies, that was not the way my post was meant to be interpreted, though I see how it could have been - I was simply annoyed with your interrogation of my debating skills, which came across in a superior manner. Therefore, I wanted to display that I believe I know what I'm doing, and that I am ready to continue our debate in a sensible fashion.
