The Newspaper's 4th Anniversary!
Lhamster replied to Lhamster in The Newspaper's 4th Anniversary! Newspaper Archive
Wow. The beginning of May marks four years since Issue 1 of the Newspaper was released. 53 issues later, here we are. It's kinda amazing it's been going so long, and I'm proud to have been involved for pretty much all of that. The last year has seen some big changes with the Newspaper changing to a twice monthly format and applications being permanently open. We've also seen some great writers join and leave. There are lots of potentially exciting things in the newspaper future, particularly with the recent launch of the Amateur Writing forum. Here's to another year of the newspaper! I'm also going to use this post to sadly announce that Conan will be stepping down from his role as admin. He's done so much for the paper, and was its backbone early on, so we want to thank him so much for everything. He will be staying on in a consultative capacity, so he'll still be around occasionally.- 23 replies

This survey is now closed. We have completed a detailed analysis of the results, and plan to make changes in response to all of your opinions. Thanks for your feedback! Hey guys, we'd love some feedback on the paper, so I've made a questionnaire, which you can access here. We'd be really grateful if you would spend some time answering the questions, all of which are optional, you can answer as many or as few as you like. Thanks!

Results [Issue 53] Describe this In 100 Words!
Lhamster replied to Lhamster in [Issue 53] Describe this In 100 Words! Newspaper Archive
Picture 1: 1st Place, winning 25000 crystals: @violins Pranksters. Hidden away from the chaos of the brawl mere buildings away, these two unlikely allies had conspired to join their forces and hide both team's respective flags, leaving the clueless tankers on either side without a clear objective. Naturally, this had quickly devolved the situation into an all-out melee across the entire map. "Psst", the Railgun whispered to the Thunder. "Do you think they'll find us?" Above the din of the battle, the Thunder had to raise his voice. "I'm not sure they-" The Thunder was suddenly interrupted by a destroyed Isida turret sailing gracefully over their heads. 2nd Place, winning 20000 crystals: @Jwimmer "Noooooooo, don't run over me!!!!" I thought, as the two tanks came raging straight towards me. I had always heard, from the stories coming back into the mine factory, that poofing out because your owner died is much less painless than the double whammy of being run over then having to violently blow up. I had been pooped out a few minutes ago, and since then have been sitting here, hoping to the mine gods that my owner would be courteous enough to die for me. 3rd Place, winning 15000 crystals: @Leaflet314 I'll tell a story 'bout two teams of tanks that were a-fightin' they fought for years 'n month 'n more 'till one of 'em made a sightin' He saw a person with their banner upon the other side just sittin' there, a mult, no manners going for a ride. He had their flag, but not, of course the decency to drop it when teammates tried to push him off the mult, of course, stopped it Enemy flag in hand a mine he laid adjacsent to push the mult right into and the battle he could hasten. And a consolation of 10000 crystals to @Blackdrakon30: The ground rumbles in anger, as if a blacksmith is forging a new sword. The shingles tremble upon the roof, and growls of weapon rotations sounds throughout the neighborhood. For this can only be one thing, the tanks have arrived. A mighty crocodile rolls through a thin street with a glaringly bright flag in tow, on a deadly mission to reap the magnificent reward of a flag capture. A roar of disapproval sounds from an approaching albino crocodile and a conflict is imminent. Bellowing at each other with all their fury, nobody knows which mighty beast will be victorious. Picture 2: 1st Place, winning 25000 crystals: @LaserShark Yup. That's a cheater. So, Mr.Lhamster, instead of doing the right thing and reporting him, you take a screenshot and make it a part of your contest. To make matters worse, you took out all the usernames so we can't even see who the cheater is. Shame upon you Lhamster. Shame upon you, your family, your house, your lawn, your chickens, your goats, your plants, your windows, your desktop wallpaper, even your toenail clippings. Shame! 2nd Place, winning 20000 crystals: Los Alamos Research Facility. Mission: Research tank flight. Report: We are one step closer to achieving tank flight. The elixir is near completion, and we have found a worthy volunteer. The lead scientist, whom I may describe as a dictatorial figure with a large hammer, is being congratulated at the moment by many of the junior scientists, who, for some reason, adore him and thus copy his hammer. But I digress. We are so very close to tank flight, it’s exhilarating. In several days, the mission will be complete! ... But for now, we’ll make-do with the catapult. 3rd Place, winning 15000 crystals with this very deep entry: @Blackdrakon30 People constantly try to reach new heights. We attempt to elevate ourselves above others, to be the one who's superior. Even when people protest and crowd the ground beneath us, telling us that what we are trying to do is impossible..... who cares? Nothing is impossible. We may feel we are in the midst of a desert, a cratered and demolished battlefield of our defeats, with walls blocking our ways in life. If you put in the effort, nothing will stop you. Grab a few trustworthy friends that won't shoot you or your dreams down, and you will soar. And a special shout out to @LegolasGreenleaf8 for the great idea of parodying 'I Believe I Can Fly'. There weren't so many entries this time, so it's great to still have some quality stuff submitted, congrats to the winners! Check out the rest of Issue 53 right here!- 19 replies

I wouldn't exactly call earning a living procrastination...

Just a heads up, I'm working today and tomorrow, so we'll be publishing this evening GMT at the earliest, and if we don't manage to get everything ready, it'll be Saturday afternoon when we publish.

Review [Issue 52] 10 Reasons Why Tanki is Good for You
Lhamster replied to GoldRock in Newspaper Archive
If you want, I can leave it there and have you banned? -
Results are out you know...
-
lol, after last time I was a little cynical, so I did some reverse image searching, results below: The rest of it is you taking backgrounds and added one or so things, so they're not exactly original too.
-
That's not a direct quote... Also 'similar to a meme' does not mean 'a meme'. Note "like" and mentioning captions. And there's enough info in the OP and comments in the topic + previous contests for you to figure it out. I mean, I explicitly say:
-
Yeah, sorting some stuff out behind the scenes atm, will all be revealed in due course.
-
Yeah, but unfortunately I ran out of pics + time to take more, so had to use them.
-
Oops, forgot to open the form, fixed now!
-
Devs can make battles for all ranks.
-
Nope. Trying to get that out asap too.
-
A few bits and pieces between official issues.
-
At the moment, just this one. If there's a particular contest(s) you want to see, and it's quick for me to set up, I might be able to do it too. (A max of 3 contests including this one)

'Caption This!' results and a new 'Describe This In 100 Words' are out.

Who is "tanki on line"? If it was an admin, then they've looked into it, and found the mod's judgement to be correct. Staff in the office (Employees, known as devs) don't take part in contests. Ideas should be posted over in the 'Ideas and Suggestions' section.
