Creating the optimal team with a partner (Advice please!)

Thunder M1 isnt unlocked for a long time, neither is Cedar paint (Thunder protection for self-damage). I'm a mammoth, I cannot run away from people who want to ram my sides and cause me to hit myself. Also, I like to be an attacker, I use double armor's every so often, paired with mammoth, to cap flags while my friend heals me. Smoky's critical hits allow me to cap flags much more effectively, and save my friend during emergency situations as well due to critical hits killing enemies as soon as they spawn at their base. Please give a more well thought out reply next time, but thanks anyways~ Also, for you future repliers, the extra bit of HP on Mammoth seems to be pretty useful, since my friend is an Isida, if he dies, my little bit of HP leftover could provide him enough time to return and heal me back to full hp in an emergency situation. If you all agree that Mammy+Smoky is the best for me, I plan to increase Mammoths HP with microupgrades to 275 (75% of m2) But thinking about it further, considering the fact that we will never reach the Major+ ranks anyways, would it be better to get M1 titan and Microupgrade it? Since 292hp vs 300hp, but the titan has a bit more speed, so when I microupgrade its HP, it will be 272ish rather than 275, and have alot more speed... Yeah that seems like a better idea. So M1 titan M1 smoky, both MU'd - titan for HP and smoky for crit % / crit damage. Thoughts? -
I sometimes give flags to our defending freeze/mammoth players who load the place with mines. They really are the ones keeping us from losing, while the rest of us can freely attack. (But usually if they are placing like 50 mines, they're pretty high up in the charts anyways.) I coulda just +1'd the post above me though haha.

Creating the optimal team with a partner (Advice please!)

My friend and I play together as Sergeant-Major's. He uses M1 Hornet + M1 Isida quite effectively. I want to make the best possible team together with him. We play mostly small-medium maps, but sometimes enjoy medium-large sized maps as well. We usually play CTF matches since he shines best there as an Isida user. I can master any hull/turret, I have plenty of experience with all m1's and a few m2's as I own them on this account. I would appreciate experienced players opinions on creating the optimal team (theoretically) for us to dominate together. (We already come first place in 90% of the matches we join, with the exception of when we face WO3's -> Lieutenants or higher ranks, not only do they have M1/M2's but they drug more often) Currently, I've been using M1 Mammoth + M1 Smoky. It seems better that I use a hull with high HP since I always have an Isida friend by my side, yes? And with Mammoth, it allows me to get way more opportunities for Critical hits from my Smoky, since it takes forever to kill me in a mammoth, + Im being healed sometimes, so I can shoot away at enemies as long as I want, just waiting for that critical hit. I also can kill enemy mammoths/titans with ease - even higher ranked ones, cause my mammoth hull can tank their m1-m2 weapons for a bit longer, usually allowing me to get in a crit + a few shots and they are dead :) What improvements would you guys think that either my friend, or myself could make, to enhance our teamwork? Should I be using a different weapon or hull? Should he use Hunter rather than Hornet? Although I am concerned about what will happen when the new physics system is implemented. Do you pros think that Mammy/Smoky will still be a good combination later? And also, for my friend, should he continue using Hornet/Isida to work best with me? Please give a detailed and well-thought out reply, using reasoning to backup your opinions. -
Im curious to see how many people choose Wasp over Hornet in the near future with the new physics update coming...
-
FALSE. Tested numerous times, and proven otherwise. Smoky loses up to 50% of its damage from far distances. Critical hits also deal as much as 50% less.
-
Lol. Lol again. 10 times cheaper? Yeah, if you look at a single upgrade cost (which is 10x more likely to fail) More like 10x more expensive, cause we have to do it so many times. Lottery tickets are cheap, yeah they are. But when you have to buy 200 of them to win a small prize? This update and the word 'cheap' are in no way related whatsoever sorry lol.
-
Um... I think the times should be shortened by 50% on how long it takes to upgrade. If I played tanki online every single day, and wanted to upgrade something to max... those last few upgrades take like 3-5 days?! of not being able to use my equipment???? That or I can spend like 10k crystals. The speed up time price should be halved as well. Also the Success rate... Success rate should be higher... definitely. The last few upgrades, you have like a 1 in 4 chance, or less of success. When the idea was proposed of 'unsuccessful upgrades' weeks ago, I assumed this would happen only 1/4th of the time. But rather its the exact opposite. Success = 1/4th and Unsucess = 3/4th once you're nearing the end of an upgrade path. Tanki is going to make TONS and TONSSSSSS of money if someone wanted to fully micro upgrade something.... seriously it would cost like 150k crystals to fully microupgrade an M1 Smoky......................... due to the unsuccessful occurances + speed up time. Nobody is going to be able to wait without speeding it up, trust me. Unless they simply quit tanki for 5 months while they upgrade their stuff and come back to be OP.... Really, without speeding up the time... with 5 categories of upgrades, a total of 70-100 micro upgrades per item, if the last 75th percentile of upgrades takes 3-5 days...? then that means if 100 upgrades to fully upgrade, 25 of those are going to take 3-5 days.. so 75-125 days? 3-4 months basically? That is so lame. Not even cool. And if someone wanted to do only one category to fully upgrade, it would still take a whole month and a ton of crystals, which due to the unsuccess factor do not cover the cost of the '11% off M3' thing. You spent way more than '11%' of the m3 price just to get that. So this whole update is no no no no. Itll be for buyers mostly. And we talkin biiig buyers. ALso due to the fact that we must FULLY upgrade the category to get our 11% (or whatever %) discounted? It means we must put ourselves through the last couple upgrades if we want refunds. So Its my opinion that M2 upgrades will not be worth it, only M3, and only the beginning. Maybe we can upgrade the first quarter, possibly the second quarter of each category... but no further than that, for sure, unless we're rich + M3 already. Sorry if it sounds like im complaining... itsbecauseiam LOL I just.. sigh. Come on tanki, give your loyal customers a truly beneficial enjoyable update, that doesnt have to make you rich. I know you guys spend time in developing upgrades and keeping things up for us to enjoy.... but then you come bash us who have spent MORE time then you guys have on tanki. The players, the millions of players are the ones paying you not necessarily with their money (some are - actually alot are) but WE ARE GIVING YOU OUR LIVES (Or a good chunk of it) And you hit us with updates like 123 where we have a much harder time earning crystals, and then this now where we have a huge punishment if we dont buy (cause micro-upgrades are very enticing but cost tons of money to speed up, or months of our time) I think I'll be done very soon if something isnt done about this. And btw, to be completely honest, I planned on spending 50 dollars, for like 300k crystals, in hopes of microupgrading my m1 smoky + wasp + m2 rail + m1 firebird to full. And I expected to have at LEAST 200k leftover after fully micro-upgrading all of those hulls/turrets. Now I find out itll cost me 500k crystals to do this? Forget it. You're not getting any of my money tanki. If you would simply be REASONABLE. We would all buy from you if you made it cheaper! Imagine the millions of customers all paying you 10-20 dollars, and only have to do so once a year to get EVERYTHING they wanted?!?!? Basically a 15$ subscription fee to play per year? Think how much money you would make, and we would all be happy. But noooooo! You make that 'subscription' fee cost like 300$ if we wanted to purchase everything we wanted in a year. (including microupgrades) You realize thats more than half the cost of a PS4? Think about what you're doing. Just look at all the comments above mine? And the comments that will start to flood in more and more as other players test out your new 'update.' Arent updates supposed to be positive? Until then, our time is much better spent on other games or hobbies where their developers are considerate of their customers.

Interview [Issue 13] Semyon Talks: More on Micro-Upgrades
r_brandybabyxx0 replied to hogree in Newspaper Archive
Micro-upgrades have become pointless due to the fact that there is no limit on how many micro-upgrades you can do............... I initially fell in love with the idea that we would have more techniques and tactics in order to defeat our opponents.... but since ALL characteristics can be upgraded to MAX .. it defeats any variation. IF ONLY we were allowed a maximum of 5-10 upgrade points to be put in to each piece of our equipment, it would force us to CHOOSE ONLY ONE OR TWO characteristics, meaning all of us could be different. The way it has been done, soon or later, everyones hulls will be no different because they will all be fully upgraded in every category. What SHOULD have been done is this: Wasp has 5 characteristics to upgrade. Each characteristic has a 0/10 (So total of 50) BUT YOU ONLY GET 20 UPGRADE POINTS. Therefore, you have the option of choosing speed + power OR protection + weight. This would have two outcomes. The first, a faster lightweight (easy to flip) hull. The latter, a slower but heavier wasp. A railgun has 5 characteristics to upgrade. Each characteristic has a 0/10 (So a total of 50) BUT YOU ONLY GET 20 UPGRADE POINTS. Therefore, one can make a higher damage + penetrating power OR one can make a railgun to be all about impact force, causing other hulls (like the first wasp example) to be flipped really easy. Further, Isida could be made to strictly heal his allies, by maxing out teammate healing ability + reload time rather than damage + self heal ability. So isidas could be made for distinct purposes. A railgun who upgraded damage rather than reload rate would likely lose against a railgun with the faster reload. Why? Because of railguns strong impact force, it would turn the enemies railgun in another direction, causing him to miss. Think about it. An M3 railgun with 160 damage but only 8.0 reload speed, vs an M3 railgun with 130 damage, but 9.5 reload speed. Choice #2 wins. It would truly be customization. But since everyone can upgrade 50/50 then there is no point in only upgrading your desired characteristic. You have to do them ALL to keep up with your opponents. Therefore this whole update is of no aid in making more gameplay tactics. The only new thing that could be done probably is to make a parkour set-up where you have a wasp with no upgraded weight, and a rico/railgun with extra impact force. -
It will have different gameplay, due to different equipment being used. At our ranks, the best equipment are the items unlocked earliest, with the furthest away upgrade. (Smoky m1 -> m2) a microupgraded Smoky m1 will be easily competing against thunder M2's since its Smoky M1.75. Wasp M1.75 will be faster than Hornet M3 and possibly faster than Hornet M3.75. It means that there will be a big change in the types of guns and hulls you see roaming around. Therefore, different protections may be used more frequently, and this will alter gameplay quite a bit IMO.
-
I'm holding on to this hope that soon, ricochet + shaft will receive small buffs in order to balance them better with the other weapons. Ricochet should get a few more charges, hopefully 13-14 instead of 10, and shaft should get a tiny damage buff, especially at M3 of +20-30 extra damage at full charge. Also, your scores in DM shouldnt determine which weapon you choose. Each weapon has its place in different game modes and maps. Rico can be epic in certain maps. Same for firebird and shaft.
-
I doubt even the mods thought about it. Make sure everyone reads my last two posts lol. I love the idea of faster gameplay though. The faster the hulls move, and the more damage the guns do, the more skill it requires to aim and stay alive! Meaning the game requires more time to master.
-
ALSO --- IMPORTANT Take this into consideration!!!!!! If (as the above comments state) we can upgrade our equipment 75% OF THE NEXT MODIFICATION.... Look at these specific upgrades.... dictator for example? M2-M3 the jump is HUGE. So is the level required! That means a M2 dictator unlocked at first lieutenant can be 75% as good as a Generalissimo item? Therefore at first lieutenant we are essentially getting a much higher ranked item? And think about thunder! M2-M3 is so minimal. If you get 75% of upgrades on an M2 thunder, you pay for basically nothing. But on a wasp?!? M1-M2 difference is HUGE again. That means you can have super low ranks running around with (lets do the math) (m1wasp - 8.0 speed -> m2 wasp 10.1speed .. 75% of 2.1 = 1.5 SO 9.5 SPEED ON A M1 WASP?! At a suuuuper low rank?!?! THIS CHANGES EVERYTHING GUYS. This means M1 Wasp micro-upgraded for speed (75% of M2) makes M1 WASP FASTER THAN M3 HORNET?! Prepare to say hello to more wasps, and goodbye to hornets! It also means M1 Mammoth can in theory have 275 HP at Staff Sergeant. SAY GOODBYE TO BALANCE.

FALSE. Micro-upgrades allow us to alter specific characteristics of our equipment. Some of us may choose to increase our hulls health, while others may stick with speed. Therefore, our equipment will be able to further enhance our play styles. It allows tanks to be tankier, and speedy wasps to be even faster. It means more variety in game, and the ability to make the most of tactical play styles. A smoky for example can ignore his damage output, but focus on his fire rate, therefore allowing for more critical hit opportunities. An isida can decide to increase his teammate healing ability, or he can simply focus on his own damage. If he chooses the former, he is able to focus his playstyle on being a medic rather than a vampire. A railgun vs railgun fight, if one upgraded their damage while the other upgraded their firing speed, and both shoot each other at the exact same time the first shot, in the second shot, the railgun who chose firing speed should in theory shoot the enemy first before the railgun with damage upgrades can fully charge his weapon. If a firebird wants to play a peek-a-boo playstyle, he can raise his afterburn effect damage so that he can pop in and out from behind walls, allowing him to avoid being out in the open receiving damage, while hurting his opponent. There are so many more options now, hopefully the examples I listed above will allow you all to think more tactically with this update just around the corner. (This is correct, yes? We are allowed specific characteristics of upgrades, microupgrades are NOT overall equipment upgrades. They are certain aspects.)

You sir, deserve much respect. +1000000

LOOL. 'but probably all of them' is basically what you said. ty i needed that laugh.
-
I heard that Freeze got a nerf. Is this true? Can we have proof? As a CTF player, using Isida/Hunter which paint would be best at my rank? Electra, Tundra, or Python?
-
What about at my stage? I can get M2 dictator + Railgun M2. Is that better than M2 Hunter + Rail M2? I currently use my rail with M1 Hunter/M1 wasp with much success.
-
Best paint to use with Freeze + Hunter setup? Kungur, Farm, Silence, and Combe are my favorite maps. (Electra or lower please thanks) Reply soon! Paint sale almost over!
-
Thanks. :)
-
I use Isida M2 and Hunter M1. M2 Hunter soon! But I would like to know which paint I should use for CTF games. I enjoy attacking with Isida. What paint shall I use? I'm tied between Python and Electra. Electra is sexy and has +10% smoky/twins protection along with 30% Isida protection Python has 32% Freeze protection and 14% useless shaft protection. Help please! I enjoy medium-small maps

You are an exception. Majority of people are pressed for crystals. They can't afford to make a bunch of purchases to in the end, have similar hulls. Most people want different experiences, when they get bored of one setup, they switch to another one which requires a different play style or suits a different game mode or map. If you were bored of Tanki with your Wasp M1 and Railgun, you're not going to invest in a Hornet M1 and expect to be cured of your boredom. With that said, there is nothing wrong with investing in similar hulls if you fancy the idea. If you have the crystals to do so, after buying everything else you want, go ahead and do your thing. Hornet is a little less stable, a little faster, and has a little less health. It's also smaller and can fit into tight spaces that the Hunter simply cannot. The hornet can turn a little sharper as well. Hornet is available at M2 before Hunter is. Also Hunter M3 is unlocked much later than the Hornet M3.

Freeze at M0+M1. Firebird at M2-M3 Hulls depend on the roll you wish to play. It also depends on which map you're playing in. CTF Defender = Freeze M0-M3 + Mammoth. CTF Attacker = Freeze or Firebird + Heavy hull if using drugs, Light hull if not using drugs. You can go for the blitz straight forward heavy attack vs 6 enemies and fight your way through to the flag with your drugging mammoth, or you can use your light fast hull to slip in when nobody is looking, catching them off gaurd and sneaking away with the flag. Small maps = Heavy Hulls. Medium = Both Big maps = Mostly light hulls. TDM/DM = Firebird. Remember though - Firebird isnt good until M2. But at M2-M3 it is amazing.
