Contest [Issue 34] Continue the Story... Returns! [Chapter 1]
Raredust replied to Pathfinder in Newspaper Archive
Chapter 1 - Preparation I gazed upon our city; Verthaven. Nobody was happy. Nobody was laughing or conversing joyfully. The city was downcast. I couldn't blame them. I felt the exact same way inside. I showed bravery and a strong heart, but I was scared and depressed. The city of Dragonbrook had attacked us twice in one week. We had barely successfully defended, and the fear of their aggression lingered in our minds. We all admitted in our hearts, we were lucky. "Hey daydreamer, we're changing shifts." I swiftly glanced to my left to see Felix, a rough, tired archer whom I usually worked with for some reason. "It's your turn." He continued. I gave a slow nod as he yawned and walked away. I strolled across the wall, and viewed the wild earth that lie outside our city. I stared, pondering our future. Verthaven was so small, yet fervent and unique. It was special. Its citizens looked to one another for comfort, and not to themselves. We were a family. We deserved peace. I sighed, lowering and shaking my head, trying desperately not to doubt our king's defense strategies and propositions. After attaining the courage to stabilize myself, I glared into the undomesticated land. The moon threw a bluish-white color at the earth. I somehow fell into a deep train of thought. I was exhausted and completely lost sense of time. It was midnight, and I hadn't acquired enough sleep. I persistently caught myself trying to allow my eyelids to meet. Suddenly, something happened within me; I was no longer exhausted. I felt more than alive. I rubbed my eyes vigorously, but the hope of removing what was before me would not be fulfilled. "The enemy is coming!" Instinctively, these words slipped from my mouth. Within seconds, the words were relayed throughout the city. I looked about to see women and children scattering throughout Verthaven, of whom some were fortunate enough to have "secret safe zones", as we called them, in their houses. I saw men, whose ages varied substantially, running to their defensive positions. Verthaven didn't deserve this. I didn't deserve this. As I stared at the small city, yells and cries seemed to gradually become faint, and then mute. If only to myself, I muttered, "God be with you." I seemed to have forgotten who and where I was, and then reality hit me as an archer brushed past me, running across the defensive wall. "Go, go, take your position!" He yelled at me in fear and irritation. Realizing my faults, I gasped and sprinted to my designated area. Out of the corner of my eye, I noticed Felix, who looked drunk from exhaustion, situating himself beside me. We clumsily made eye contact, and I gave him an undefined nod. Archers were lined across the wall, while warriors were positioned throughout the city. As the enemy approached nearer, I smoothly grabbed an arrow, fit it in my bow, and firmly pulled back. I completed these actions countless times in my life, and it was moments like these when I thoroughly understood that my training and perseverance was worth it. While concentrating, yet deep in thought, I suddenly heard the anticipated words; "Pick your target!" I focused intensely, knowing that my mere decisions and actions could determine the consequences of Verthaven. I involuntarily twitched multiple times, awaiting the command to shoot. This instruction would be shouted spontaneously, and would deserve immediate action. My face depicted a mixture of determination, fear, and zeal. I glanced to my right at Felix. He didn't make eye contact with me, but somehow detected my feelings. "Don't worry, we've done this before." He said confidently, with a crooked smile. I quickly deposited my attention back to the enemy. I watched as their army, containing more warriors and horses than ever previously, proceeded toward us. Then I peered, and perceived what the enemy almost seemed to have prioritized; catapults. I couldn't help but softly mutter, "No, Felix, this battle won't be like the others." -
My guess is May 1st, but I'm not sure.

I was one of the first to see this topic. When fighter566 commented, that spoiler wasn't there.

That moment when you join a battle and immediately see orange words, making you excited. But then you realize it's because somebody just took the Gold box.

- Rodhlann 1. Anyone can write an editorial. You just write your own article and send it to Editorials via PM. A Press member, however, is an official Tanki Online reporter. He/she writes articles, along with other reporters, and they're published in the Tanki Online Newspaper. The Press is not currently accepting applications right now. 2. Yes, you can.
