Go for Thunder M3. Then when the next sale rolls around, buy Smoky M2 and M3. Don't. You need to save for M2's. What other hulls/turrets do you have? If anything, don't MU M2's. M3's are the stuff you need to MU. Smoky M3, and Thunder M3. They're great. Though as stated earlier, Smoky's not as great as it used to be.

Fire requires less skill IMO.
