[Issue 3] Smoky XT Chronicles: "Escape"

Smoky XT Chronicles: Escape The charge of the mammoth’s railgun freezes me. As the orb on the tip of the barrel grows larger, I can see my short-lived life pass before me. My first battle, kill, and death all seem to have occurred just a moment ago. Then finding my ultimate weapon, the mysterious Smoky XT, in that cabin house. Finally, getting the golden box, which in fact did happen just a moment ago. Funny though, how none of those accomplishments seem to matter anymore, with my impeding death and all… At the last possible moment, I shut my optical cameras, preparing for the worst. I hear a clap of thunder in the distance, but feel nothing. Again, another noise! It is many voices… yelling and shouting? I open my cameras, to see myself in the same place as I was before! The mammoth-railgun had missed me! His friends are twirling around every which-way, trying to find the one foolish enough to shoot at their leader. Another clap of thunder resounds throughout the map, and a shell explodes among the group of helpless attackers, destroying them all. Frightened, I wheel around the nearest corner, not wanting to be killed by the unseen assailant. I hit a wall almost instantly. Turning my unique turret toward the barrier, I realize that it is not a wall, but a tank! I note that it is a Thunder M3 – Viking M3, but those are hardly the attention grabbers. The magnificent paint that he wears, with its many sheets of golden splendor, astonish me. I have never seen a coat like this before! He is a massive, powerful, yet seemingly agile tank, with a disarming look about him. Though astonished beyond words, I am, for some reason, not afraid. I continue to awkwardly stare at his skin for what seems like hours. Eventually, he speaks. With a deep, yet gentle voice “What is a little one, like you, doing out here, in the middle of an immense battlefield, with only a Wasp and a Smo---.” His sentence is cut short. I note that he is observing my gun with an analytical demeanor, not all that different from mine when I first saw his remarkable coating. “Where did you get that weapon?” No emotion, no anger. Only a question. I begin to falter within myself, trying to decide on what to do next. A lie could be made rather easily, and he would never know the difference between it and the truth. But just as I am about to verbalize the fib, I stop myself. I take another good look at the stranger, and am miraculously compelled to tell him the full truth. I do just that. After I finish with story-time, the stranger just sits there. The diversity between the serious demeanor of his body and the confounded sound of his computers clicking away (trying to make sense of it all), was nearly humorous. It is like seeing a god behave like a child in the most serious of times. It ends quickly. And when his state returned to normal, I am told a story myself. “Seeing as how you told me of your story, it is only fair that I tell you of mine.” As it turns out, his name is Milan (Mee•lon). He is one of the oldest and most experienced tanks in the game. He has seen the introduction of many new weapons, tanks, and paints to this world. A time long ago, he and a group of his closest friends formed a team to battle against the other ‘clans’ that were around. The clan with the highest percentage of wins had each of its members receive a special gift from the Creators of the world: A golden paint, that had resistance against every weapon that would ever be instated on the battlefield. He and his team won the first and only championship of the type, and they were all given the glorious ‘Champion’ paints. A few years later, to celebrate their final battle of the championship, in which they were declared the winners, the team decided to return to the map. Mysteriously, each Champion-bearer disappeared during the reunion, when no one was looking. They did not leave the battle; they simply disappeared. Milan soon found himself alone in the field, and exited through the door in which he came into the map, in hope of finding his friends in the corridor of doors. Not a single of his companions were there, or in their garages. After searching through the map time and time again, he gave up all hope of finding his friends. ~ His first day with the Champion paint. That was many years ago. I was fortunate enough to join the first battlefield that Milan had entered in ages. He decided that he wanted to give the search another go. The two of us have been sitting here for quite some time. No noises or motions have been made. Wait! Weren’t there many more battlers in this region? I listen intently, searching for any noise indicative of battle. There is only silence. I point this out to Milan, who agrees that it is indeed peculiar. Together, we cruise along the perimeter of the field. I note that my elder is a bit faster than myself, but he compensates by taking an occasional break. Not another person comes into sight. As our route comes to an end, I decide to look up into the partly cloudy sky, for no particular reason. I freeze. I see something up in the clouds. A tank! No—it looks like two! One seems to be stuck to the undercarriage of the other, and is being pulled up by it. I announce my amazement, and Milan takes note. His cameras slide up to view the sky. Once I am certain that he too is watching the event happen, I return my gaze, just in time to see a black opening form in the top of the sky. The two tanks disappear through it, as does their gateway. Milan stared for a fair amount of time, before sighing and saying “They are back.” ____________________________________________________________ Next issue: The Journey ____________________________________________________________

    [Issue 3] Special Battles

~ Guys, tell me if I'm missing any other sorts of battles that you have seen around the servers. Special Battles Have you ever found yourself in a battle, where none of the players are shooting each other? Did they all have the same tank and weapon? What about protective paints? I doubt you saw any. These battles are created mostly by the nostalgic first generation of players, who lust for the old days where all the high-ranking players had M3 Dictators and M3 Railguns. (Thus leading to the battles’ typical titles such as ‘Dic+Rail-xxxx’, where the x’s represent the map’s name that the game is being played upon.) Of course, there are other ‘special’ battles with implied rules. Let’s see which ones you’ve seen before, and if you followed the rules. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 1. Island – Rail-Wasp, no paints • Due to Island’s small size and abundance of houses (all three of them. ), this map is ideal for testing a team of players’ skills in a battle where every shot is a kill. (Mostly, anyways.) Rules- The standard version of this game requires that each team has the same number of players, each with an M3 Wasp and M3 Railgun. (However, it can also be a deathmatch.)Paints with resistance to railgun are not allowed. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 2. Cross – Rail-Wasp, no paints • Another test of skill, but on a higher level. In these games, you have no allies to protect your rear. These games are normally found as Deathmatches, with the ability to use supplies. Rules- There can be as many players as the game can hold, with the provision that there are no railgun-resistant paints on any of the tanks. Though an M3-M3 tank is preferred, it is common to see players of lower upgrades to be wandering this battlefield. Drugging, or using supplies, is discouraged by most. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 3. Duel – Rail-Wasp, no paints • This type of battle is the classic example of a duel. Not only does it take place on the smallest map in the game, but only two players are allowed in it at the same time! This is the ultimate battlefield to show your “One-on-one,” skills. Rules- Railgun M3 and Wasp M3 are required. No resistant paints are allowed. Drugging is taboo in this map. The typical match here is set on either a timer or a given number of kills. *Note: There are variances of this type of battle. Some tankers may duel with other combinations of tanks, such as dictator – railgun and smoky – wasp.* ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 4. Tribute – No shafts or isidas. • Though not as strict as the previous battle styles, these Tribute battles are time-honored traditions that have been around as long as the game itself. Most players decide to exclude shafts and isidas from the game due to the following reasons. Isida can be used by amateur players who stay behind a higher-ranking player the entire game, healing him. While he may be getting himself a lot of points from his work, he is barely helping the team as a whole. Shafts are, in most people’s opinion, overpowered. According to some longtime tankers, they ruin a certain element of Tanki that makes the game fun. (Perhaps it is the one-shot kills. ) Rules- Obviously, do not come into the battle with a shaft or isida. If none of the players are wearing protective paints, I strongly advise that you do the same. Drugging is accepted, though it can be rather pointless. Once one players drugs to get a flag, another person follows suit. Then another, and another, until the game becomes a World Cup-style drugfest. At this point, every player has the same advantages and disadvantages that they had at the start of the game, since everybody is using supplies. It is the inescapable black hole of drugs. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 5. Solikamsk – 740 HP battles • Most players have no idea why 740 was the magic number, but somehow, it caught on. This more freestyle battle on a great, original map has only one constant limitation – the cumulative health points of all the tanks on one team must not exceed 740. Certain weapons can be banned, if noted in the battle’s name. Rules- Before starting the battle, make sure that each team has no more than 740 health points total. Protective paints make the counting of points too confusing, and are henceforth banned. Using drugs varies from game-to-game.

    Just a simple question:

If you give them shiny GIF's like that, they'll only dig up more graves. Conta, these simple creatures are attracted to attention. (and light  )
