I think that, besides player numbers dropping, a lot of this is due to the fact that Tanki's playerbase and internet communities in general have changed a lot. Forums are just not as popular as they used to be, and it's all about instant messaging now, most notably — Discord. Even I, one of the most tryhard forum users, find myself preferring to use Discord for most things, like sharing Tanki screenshots or looking for advice.

I imagine that most young users find forums to be a boring and outdated method of online socialisation, and I don't blame them. But yeah, I do miss the times when there were 200-400 people on the forum at the same time. And that's "in the past 5 minutes", mind you. Now that's set to "in the past 30 minutes".

Like 2 to three years ago, my younger brother and I had two separate e-readers using the same account. There was this option to add a ‘note’ to a certain book, and the ‘note’ would be added on all devices using the same account. The two of us decided to start a ‘chatroom’ where we use a ‘note’ and write ‘chat’ stuff. A few minutes later the stuff we wrote would be added to the other e-reader. It was like magic. That was what I like about the forum. I would check the ‘all activity’ page of the forum and see that (for example) Riddler_8 has posted some 12 minutes ago, and I would be so awed that we were online at the same time. It was awesome :D It was a feeling i can’t quite describe. Discord took the magic out of it :(. That is why the forum is still me favourite chatting place in tanki :D

one of the reasons anyways. Another is of course the community. The guys in discord seems to all me trolling, but the forum is a really friendly place which I really appreciate. Not many this kind of place exists online IMO

Whew, haven’t been online here for quite a while! Glad to see tanki still (kinda) thriving. 
one of the reason i haven’t been online was because the forum (or maybe it was my browser?) got a bit buggy and when I tried to sign in the captcha check was nowhere to be found. Jumped in today and happily it worked.

 

btw I know back then I’ve been pushing to get the newspaper and all that restarted and I even wanted to write a few articles myslef for the WC but cuz of procrastination i never got to it. I now realise I might have Ben quite annoying to some of you guys, though I’m not sure if that’s how y’all would feel. Thinking back i think I’d have been pretty annoyed myself if someone kept telling others to stay active etc and post compositions without doing anything himself. So just wanna apologise if any of y’all got annoyed by me.

The thing i liked best about the forum is how it emphasised that people all over the world are online at the same moment. Back then I was really small, and the idea that other people exists and carry out actions at the other end of the world was huge. I get excited sometimes just to see someone on the forum online at the same time as me. When someone posted 5 minutes ago, I feel like I know for a fact 5 minutes ago someoen on the other side of the world had just used the forum. It’s really awesome. Still is tbh. Discord removes all of the magic because there is no time delay.

Did i really won the day on July 13 by posting one comment in a parkour club topic? I got a grand total of 3 likes and that was enough to win... a few years back, it took like 15 reaction points to win, everyday was a real battle. When i got 10 days won i resolved to never win again cuz 10 is a nice round number. Now its 1 ;-; ah well. #roadto15dayswon
