You can buy it for 500 000 crystals each item if you have a Premium Account and the required rank (Brigadier for Thunder XT, General for Railgun, etc.).

Micro-upgrading something fully (up to 50/50) is a LOT more expensive than the base item. You can upgrade the first 5-10 steps if you want a small improvement for little cost, but I strongly recommend that you do not waste too many crystals on MUs until you get at least M2. Answered. When you fully upgrade an item, you can get the next modification for free as soon as you get the required rank. After that you will need to MU the next modification as normal. And after that I decided to assign each gun and hull a sport that their characteristics most likely resemble. I call it M4, but when someone is asking me questions about MUs (and they clearly seem inexperienced) I use M3+ otherwise they get confused and think that M4 is an actual equipment grade.

Yeah, ads in a game always make the game look unprofessional and less attractive. The ads would make the game look so ugly, that I think it will actually be counterproductive as new players (potential buyers) will be repelled.

You got it right. With the current economics in the game you have a choice between having just one gun and hull and micro-upgrading it to be powerful in battles, or have numerous items with fewer or no MUs, so you won't be as powerful but you will have some variety. So you chose one or the other, or buy crystals to be able to afford both - variety and MUs.
