Its very important to spend crystals wisely, and not just chase all the different turrets and hulls. Investing in turrets is fun, but in terms of crystal payoff for me at least hull upgrades have been a lot more important. You need to practice too - battles start to get a lot tougher in the WO ranks as people start to upgrade...

But the OP wanted to get to WO4 to buy a Shaft back in October '12, which was before the rebalance when such things mattered. They were a WO2 back then, and they are Captain now; they probably have that pretty much covered.

You have to seek out the things your country can offer that are special and different; but do something new every year. Even lying out in the country, away from city lights on a clear, moonless night I would count as an amazing thing to do.

I tend to bail from any DM where there are a lot of folk playing the self-destruct game to boost their D/L, as I do from drug wars. Its not really a good Raigun tactic in my opinion, although clearly it works for Twins and Thunder (which have their own threads, of course....)

Lived a bit than many people here, it would seem. Every year brings something new. Thing I laughed at the most was swimming with Dusky dolphins in the deep, deep waters off Kaikoura. Doing a tandem skydive from 12,000' over Wanaka was pretty cool too. Skiing next week will be awesome...

I've had this too - used drugs and could see they were not showing up over my tank at all. Went away next time I entered a battle.

For example - on Stadium, for the most part you'd be chewed up by Shaft, Smokey and Railgun sniper fire before you reached the flag. Plenty of other maps where Hornet/Railguns diving in and out of cover would rip you up as well, all the way there. Either way - as players rank and upgrade their weapons/hulls/pains, so tactics will evolve and spread to bring the challenge back..

I disagree. You saw very little variation in hulls/turrets; now there are many more different Tank combinations at every level. As people rank up, the balance of the game shifts and you have learn new things. It is much more challenging - and so for me, more interesting.
