    Game spoilers: The inactive

It happens all the time. They usually fall into two groups. Mults working with the other team and gold box hunters lurking for a box to drop. Either way it has been going on for awhile now and it is safe to assume the devs do not care. Just try to form an organized team or only join winning teams in short matches.

Why is there a spam of maps

I've never understood the appeal to noise, it is one of my least favorite maps. I guess people tend to gravitate toward what is familiar and fits their play style. Plus larger maps tend to use many times more resources so users on older machines may have a harder timeplaying them. We should brainstorm a solution and post the best one in a suggestion thread. I'd like to see a map of the week, where an announcement is made each week that a certain map will get a bonus, such as 10% higher battlefund. This would encourage people to try more maps and once the community is familiar with them they'll be more likely to make them.

    Graphics bug

I frequently experience a graphics issue where opposing players, predominately ricochet, do not appear to move their turrets through an entire game. On my screen it shows the hull turning to make each shot. I thought this was intentional behavior at first but they always seem to place well on the scoreboard, It has persisted as I've slowly crawled up in ranks. Has anyone else noticed this bug?
  4. Great idea. Bans are more of a deterrent if other people know.

    Let's Discuss Thunder!

The higher damage per shot frees up a lot of rail tactics for using cover. Especially against smoky since you can absorb a crit easier even if they hit you each time you are exposed. Trading damage for reload time and splash makes you much more effective when hiding behind a strong team, but less effective on your own when things can get close. It feels different but it does serve to bridge the gap between long and mid range turrets.

    Fun, lost in Tanki...

I think the poll is bias. Prices aside lower ranks are terrible to play at. Complete noobs, hackers with throw away accounts, and those guys who for some reason feel compelled to buy every possible m1. The devs try to balance around m3 and scale down proportionally, which doesn't always work. Still if you do your research before hand and leave any losing battle to join a winning one you can afford a set of m3 by the time you unlock it. That is all I really ask before the game crosses the threshold of being too pay to win to be sustainable. Sure it is a trap for the unwary but as long as people read the forums to learn what they like, what the upgrade progression is, and how to earn crystals it is possible.

Open testing of changes in balance!

Not sure how I feel about the smoky changes. Critical damage and impact force are the fundamental character of smoky. Evening out the damage turns it into something else entirely. Glad vulcan and hammer got their respective nerfs. Rico really didn't need a buff. It was already overpowered, people can play effectively with it never moving their turret. I like the hull changes overall. Should shift people away from the overly popular hulls like hornet.

Hammer is far from game-breakingly OP

It is just the business model, not just for this game but all pay to win games, new items are overpowered when first introduced in order to encourage people to buy them and then over time they are nerfed.

Is Tanki really a fair game?

New equipment is always overpowered because otherwise no one would buy it. This is true of all pay to win games and is just the nature of the business model. Vulcan may be a bit overboard as it has no real counter. Everything else has some form of checks and balances in place to even it out. Chances are in the future they will reduce the damage significantly. Hammer worries me, while not as overpowered as vulcan and a bit more formidable at medium distance than it probably should be it seems like it completely replaces twins. Twins is already one of the most limited hulls in terms of maps it can be used on and roles it can fulfill. Hammer seems to narrow this even further. What can a twins do that a hammer can't do better?

    Sales

Neither. My understanding is that the price is first reduced by the microupgrades and then by the sale. So the 114,800 cost would first be reduced to 106190 and then to 54595 instead of 57400 or 49364. Somewhere around 53.5% but I could be mistaken.
  12. That is the entire point. The game is comprised of a system of checks an balances. Just because a specific style of gameplay is your favorite does not mean that it should be the most effective in ever single situation. It is more balanced for light hull players because it acts as a check to keep them from being overly advantaged. You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means. For dynamic the dictionary gives me "(of a process or system) characterized by constant change, activity, or progress." This requires different equipment and tactics that must be adapted to suit a particular need, not homogenized teams of light tanks attacking quickly monotonous repetition. There are only a handful of good sniping spots in each map. Most of which are checked frequently. Even while remaining stationary there is a lot more to using shaft than proper aim. Turret speed is slow so you have to be able to anticipate where and when your opponent will expose themselves, predicting the route they take, discerning priority targets, and concentrating fire effectively. From a distance a skilled shaft has to see you, recognize your objective, and determine how you are going to reach it. Then once under fire a shaft not only has to know instinctively the timing of his weapon relative to other turrets but the range, especially for smoky and thunder which grow weaker with increased distance but still hit. A simple strategy like coming out of sniping mode for quick subsequent shots is risky, not only does it require knowledge of paints and hull health but unknown unknowns such as whether the opponent had full health or microupgrades. Besides there are several shaft movement tactics, mostly involving moving when you are spotted or waiting for an opponent to reload or be distracted. I say this as someone who has never bought shaft. Not even m0. But there is a lot of strategy and skill involved in its proper use that may not be apparent when playing a build highly susceptible to burst damage.
  13. So you concede that there are already builds that serve as a balance to shaft?

Where is the Reload option for Smokey ?

Watching m2s it definitely seems faster but I have no up to date exact numbers are displayed anywhere. I'd try asking in the smoky thread for specifics.

    Mac computer goes black out

I don't know much about macs, but last I heard don't you have to manually enable hardware acceleration for flash? That could be it. I do know macs generally have a ton of cooling issues due to the lack of fans of aesthetic reasons, so it could be that as well. The fact you can hear the fans makes me think it is overheating. Here are some ideas to try. Try this in firefox, saw it in another thread and it might help minimize resources. Run through this guide. Make sure hardware acceleration is enabled. Otherwise your computer will be working much harder than it has to to use flash. Macs already handle flash far less efficiently than windows or linux (despite adobe dropping linux support awhile back) Try Chrome. Chrome uses it's own internal flash plugin. Probably not any more stable but it is different enough to be worth trying. Get a temperature monitor for OSX. There are several options, probably a built in one. This is the first one that turned up on google. This will help you troubleshoot if that is the problem. Try standalone flash Googling 2011 macbooks there are lots of hardware issues that can cause black screens. Ambient light sensor damage, water damage, heatsink damage. These are pretty unlikely and I wouldn't consider them until you've ruled everything else out. Especially since the problem only occurs when playing tanki. Make sure your ram is good. Tanki leaks ram like no flash game I have ever seen. It could be one of your ram sticks is bad, you have less than you used to, and tanki fills all available ram. This guide might be useful if nothing else works.

    shafts

Recording a shaft on your team intentionally flipping you is near impossible. Frequently they are outside of the range where you can see their name. Even if you know where they are ahead of time you have to stay in a precarious spot that is usually exposed to enemy fire. Not to mention the difficulty of controlling the camera angles involved since you tend to be off balance when susceptible to flipping. My advice is to play with a friend. Next time it happens have your friend sit in the middle and record events from a third party perspective. If you don't know anyone that can help try asking here.

    Killing Thunder

Thanks. Been trying that or circling around so I can hit the far end of their tank without taking damage but both of those are a bit situational.
  18. Meowmix56

    Killing Thunder

I wish this would get fixed. Thunder regularly takes a point penalty just for firing. No other turret has this problem. You have to be trying pretty hard to kill yourself with a ricochet. In TDM it hurts the entire team, but otherwise you are still losing points. The worst part is no one benefits. You lose points, a kill, and gain a death. The person who killed you is robbed of their kill and if they survive they are left with damaged health. If you are doing well and any short range tank chooses to focus on you by getting as close as possible this can happen almost non-stop over the course of a match. One thing that particularly bugs me is capture the flag games. It forces a rational self interested person to make a choice counter to the welfare of their team. It would be best for the team if a thunder were to damage the opponent and leave it as weakened as possible before dying. However you retain a higher point score and thus more crystals by sitting there and letting them kill you rather than self destructing. You guys must've seen this behavior a few times before. Or in the thunder discussion thread, look how many of them wear thunder resistant paint now for the sole purpose of reducing the frequency of the self destruct penalty.

Just : thanks ! for new cooldown !

I agree completely but what is your suggestion?

    funny things in tanki online

Maps that provide an incentive to jump through the air. Then you camp at the base and flip people trying to come at you.

    Weapons are Truly Balanced Now?

I wouldn't say the game is balanced completely nor should it be. Ricochet is really powerful, at certain ranks various weapons or hulls dominate. As long as it is not too egregious it adds variety. It is only maladaptive if you see the same exact tactics and combinations used too frequently. Tanki isn't a finished product and never should be, with equipment periodically rebalanced. Each time providing for slightly different checks and balances. That said smart cooldowns have been a huge improvement.

New campaign against Mults and Saboteurs.

Just a reminder that this thread is about player based actions. There are separate suggestion topics for changes to the game itself.

    Preventing adware from TO

Next time try posting in the problems and solution forum. Aside from reassuring you it isn't from tanki, that you should run a scan with one of the cleaner programs linked, and that dedicated av software is useless my only suggestion is to paste this list into your hosts file to keep this from happening next time: http://winhelp2002.mvps.org/hosts.txt

    Report

You can report people for abusive actions in tanki. It is just a cumbersome process. You need to install video capture software and record the abuse. Usually three instances of sabotage, or enough to prove hacking occurred. Here is the rule section for reporting players. Then post in the game violators section and the moderators will take swift action. Aside from that you might try the /vote command.
