Viking's damage with Firebird, Freeze. Isida seems less now than with just a Double Damage and lasts a fraction of the time...in other words Viking pretty much gets a free DD every battle. It is now the weakest OD. Typical Tanki nerf from OP to zip. Wasp doesn't kill itself anymore (that is fair in my opinion), but it is now the quickest recharge....faster than Hunter or Hornet by 5 seconds (no score...kills, caps, etc) Wasp is now the quickest charge: 1 minute 45 seconds. Hunter and Hornet are 1:50. Personally, I found the bazillion Wasp/Firebirds a total joy killer. There was always a bomb going off and no protection against them...now Wasp charges and re-charges much faster. You can kill so many so quickly that your Wasp can recharge in about half a minute...10 to 12 bombs per battle if you are on a roll and drugged up. I think the speed demons previously preferred Hornet over Wasp...it seems like there were quite a few more Honets pre-OD update. So Tanki makes Wasp the darling speed hull...many many players equip Wasps and start MUing. A few weeks or maybe even a couple of months down the road...nerf It's was pretty much a joke in the lower ranks already with all the bombs going off all over the field. Now with the Wasp buff there is nothing left of a strategy game. There are devastating undefeatable bombs everywhere all the time.

Viking is a very popular hull because it is offered in kits at low ranks....people get used to it. Also Hunter is not offered in a kit until a much much higher rank and they are in very expensive kits. this makes everybody and his dog use Viking. It is not as good a hull as Hunter now, but it is a matter of economics...you got the Viking and MUed it some, so now you buy a Hunter with no MUs and start over? Anyway, this is why there are so many Vikings out there...and it's still a decent hull even though it gets knocked around like a rag doll now. This and people just got used to playing with it from when it was a superior hull. Enter ODs. All the Viking drivers are pleased because their hull makes their turret shred...maybe it was a good idea to stick with the Viking. One week; nerf...why? Because there are too many Vikings already...gotta get people to buy other hulls and MU them. I just timed Viking's OD. Tanki added almost a full minute to the charge time. It now takes 4 minutes and 10 seconds to charge when no score has been generated (no kills, caps, points, etc). This is almost a full minute longer than previously!...it's 50 seconds longer and the O's effect seems to last much less time...seems like about half to me. It now takes longer for Viking to charge than the original OD iteration (like Dictator's now). nerf-buff-nerf-buff-nerf-buff Tanki's own version of the worm ouroboros.

The ODs are terrible and were another awful idea from Tanki...do they care?...not even a itsy bitsy teeny weeny bit. They are losing players at an alarming rate an they don't care because they still have lots of buyers...I would guess even more actual buyers now than when there were 200,000 players. They are going to let Tanki run it's course on the same path they have been on for over two years because they are probably making a bigger bottom line. As player numbers dwindle, they will shut down servers, which will cut overhead. When they get to a point where there are not enough players to justify a server, they shut the game down and start another...oh wait AP has already started a new game....hmmmmm. It's no biggie if they lose Tanki....it may be todays' cash cow and there has been lots of work put into creating and maintaining it, but now it's just a money grab. If tanki goes kaplooey, the AP facilities and resources are still intact, so they just do another game, hell they could even re-introduce a retro version of Tanki to see if it made any money for them. Our concerns are of no consequence to Tanki.. We might as well discuss OD balance....because there zero chance they will get rid of these idiotic ODs.

Tanki has made hulls into the same buff/nerf mold as turrets. My guess is they will also release Alterations for hull ODs, Protections from hull ODs, and maybe even an OD drone/drones to mitigate or enhance (like speed up) ODs. All this will make all the equipment in Tanki completely fluid so it will be impossible to wield a truly dangerous piece of equipment for any significant length of time. This is not balance, it's chaos. What is good today in hulls or turrets will most likely be crap in the future. Buy hull X, MU it as much as you can then Tanki guts it with an OD nerf....buy a different hull, MU...on and on...just like they do with turrets now. I think my time with Tanki is just about over. There is nothing from when Tanki was really fun.

Playing is just trash now...even in the lower ranks. It's only a time waster. You can't fight against Wasp's bomb. A three year old with an M0-MU0 Wasp can now kill anything on the field except a Mammoth on OD or a Titian in it's dome. There are so many FireWasps that you are going to get killed by bombs over and over...every bloody game. I spent so much time in this game, and for what, this garbage? I am pretty sure that these same style battles over and over and over is the end of Tanki for me. I'll give it a tad longer but I'm bored from the tedium already. I see noting that is going to make this exciting to play again...it's the same old battle on every map in every mode at every rank. What a shame they have totally destroyed this game.
-
That is very interesting and I hadn't considered exclusivity a factor before...clothes, cars. dinning, but games? Interesting...Tanki for the wealthy...could be. I really do think they are making more money now. Look at how many paint bundles they sell. It's in the tens of thousands of dollars...for paint! How much are they flogging on crystals...or kits...yikes! off topic: Do you sail?

Generally, your bottom line is increased by having bigger numbers....bigger player base, more sales. The most recent drop from 35000 to 23000, if looked at in pre-mission update terms, would mean there are only about 15000 players at peak times...as seen through pre-mission eyes. My point is there are way less players now than pre-mission update and the 23000 is a tad misleading because many of us were used to player numbers before the mission update. It's just another way of looking at statistics. So, I agree that the punching bags will still get punched, but overall there are significantly less punching bags than pre-OD and pre-mission updates (and pre-MM an their ancillary updates). And you are correct, selling more hulls and MUs for them is good for Tanki's bottom line. But, if player numbers drop too much it will impact that bottom line. We will never know unless we try to login one day and Tanki is no longer online. I think Tanki has done a great job in converting Freebie to Buyers or getting Buyers to invest more. In fact I think they are probably making lot more money than when the game was fun to play before MM/ODs/harsh missions...sad for us, but good for them. I think the question is whether that can continue if there are fewer and fewer punching bags. ...maybe; probably...but maybe not.

I think the numbers are even worse than what the actual number is. Here's why: Before the difficulty of the daily missions was increased so dramatically (what ever happened to the greater rewards incidently?) Tanki was getting about 23,000 at peak times. I was astonished that players numbers went up a lot after the difficulty of the missions increased. Harder missions, why MORE players. Someone in the forum hit the nail on the head....not more players, but players grinding at their PCs longer to complete the evil missions regime. Previously you could usually knock out three daily missions in three or four battles. After the update, it became more like eight to ten battles (on occasion the rewards are greater, but usually rewards are the same or even less). So it stands to reason that players stayed online twice as long to three times as long to complete daily missions...numbers went up to around 35000 from the 23000 (peak times) representing about a 50% increase...or players being online twice as long. Now after the OD update (and the laundry list of misguided updates in the past) we are seeing that 22000/23000 at peak times again representing a 35% drop from the 35000. But this actually means there are far less players because those 23000 are still having to stay online twice as long to complete missions. If you use a pre-mission update metric, you actually get about 15000 players online at peak times now. That's the 23000 we currently have minus the 35% recent post-OD update drop. This is all very word-wallish...sorry. More simply, numbers went up a lot because players stayed online longer. Now they have dropped back down showing that Tanki has dramatically less players now than before the mission update. (the equivalent of about 15000 based on old timey pre-mission update values) This seems to have been caused by the OD update. Storming the battlefield in support of the OD update?...I think not. Obviously Tanki is not going to get rid of the toxic MM or the myriad of trash updates that were implemented to accommodate MM. The ODs are here to stay because they can sell more hulls and hull MUs (future hull alterations and OD protections). But Tanki could and should re-think the difficult mission update that has cost them so many players and made it very difficult for Freebie players to stay competitive.

The new ODs make it even harder to complete inflated missions. I just played an alt account that is of higher rank...rank 10 and above are when the abusive missions start. If you wanted to complete the three missions I had today, it would take HOURS..like at least three maybe five. Without the ODs these overbearing abusive missions stopped me from playing on this account and another alt acct that is past rank 11...they were just too time consuming for such itsy bitsy reward. Now, with ODs it is much much harder to complete some of these outrageous missions. But you cowboy-up and spend the time to finally complete 10/10 and get that container ...it has 125 MORE mines...or paint, or even something kinda decent like 30 DD. If you don't get a boatload of crystals, how are you supposed to be able to buy MUs enough to keep up and be slightly competitive? I guess you don't and are supposed to send in cash...the problem is that it is Tanki...and Tanki will consistantly change whatever you buy at their pleasure. I spend about $2000 US on games a year (kinda embarrassing but true) for me and my kids. ZERO goes to Tanki, my ex-favorite game, because you never really know what you will get for the crystals you spend (Trashed Twins, Gutted Vulcan). The ODs are here to stay based on Tanki's track record of fixing mis-guided updates and the ODs are not the very worst thing they have ever done. ODs have made it a completely new game, but the new OD version of Tanki isn't any worse than it's most recent predecessor version. But the daily missions need to become more reasonable by either becoming easier or having greater rewards (5 DA and 5 mines is not enough compensation for generating 1000 crystals in battles). If they don't get better, and as soon as the OD novelty wears off, there is going to be another huge drop in player numbers. Freebie players have to advance or there won't be any freebie players for buyers to slaughter.

UTC clock on login page It would be very helpful to add a small clock showing current UTC time and day of the week on the login page or even the lobby page. The login page currently uses a countdown timer for events/promotions so it just couldn't be that hard to add a simple UTC clock that shows the UTC date also. As it is now, it is always a bit confusing to jump to a different website and try to convert times of Tanki events. Like the live stream today at 17:00 UTC; if I could see a UTC clock embedded within Tanki I could look at it and immediately see that the live stream would be in x amount of hours and easily calculate my local time. With websites that show UTC there is always a question of the day of the week and even a simple conversion of 12 or 24 hour time. It is not a terribly difficult process but it is prone to mistakes. An embedded official Tanki UTC clock with day of the week would cure most of the confusion.

Nephew update: He is already bored with Tanki and the ODs. Quote: "All you do is blow up tanks." The ODs held his attention for less than a week. If I were Tanki I might be a bit concerned...when you rely on "the next new thing" to sell your product, you always have to have a next new thing. I wonder if the ADHD market Tanki seems to be going for now will be as lucrative as the tried and true old guard strategy players that have carried Tanki for ten years.

Wasp's bomb needs to be red or blue...the color of the team that dropped it When a Wasp activates its OD bomb, it's very difficult to tell which team the bomb is from. The makings on the bomb itself are not bright or big enough. Make the bomb itself red or blue.

Brilliant...soo funny and perfectly written!

? ? ? ...Where are all these players that are saying they like the update? Are we reading the same forum? 95% of what I read is negative. Chat is packed with hate for the update. You must be talking about mods and Tanki lackeys that like the update (or at least feel obliged to say they like it).

I bet I've gained 20 pounds sitting on my butt playing Tanki over the last few years...and for what? This piece of crap game we have now? I stopped playing on this account ages ago since higher rank game-play is totally devoid of any fun what so ever. I keep slugging away in the lower ranks with alt accounts and I've been asking myself WHY? What is the point and where is the result/payoff? Now maybe with this garbage update, even the lower ranks will become worthless and I will quit Tanki altogether. It's a pointless game now...not much fun, no social contact, no teamwork, no camaraderie, just hack and bash and really no skill required. This forum is the best part about Tanki now....and it is is really onlya place to vent frustration with the ruined game.

The number shows how much protection that Mammoth has against your turret...he's got a fully MUed M2 protection against you. 3. Very good advice. Hull ODs are going to join the nerf-buff-nerf-buff-nerf-buff cycle that we now have with turrets...Tanki gotta make a buck (at our expense) :)

It is just so very frantic now. It is only reaction and reaction at break-neck speed. Not fun at all anymore. My 4th grade nephew has been visiting us for the past couple of weeks. I tried to introducing him to Tanki and he didn't care for it. He told me he got killed too much and it was too hard. I let him play on my account with high MUs and several different turrets. We also started his own account so he saw the Recruit rank. I told him to try again today with the new ODs and he likes it. He likes playing his own account but loves playing on my MUed account becasue he is now competitive. He even got first place several times. So a total newbie can now thrash veteran players with the new OD system...this is like rank 17 (2nd Lieutenant) and he shreds where last week, before the update, all he did was get killed. He can also do well with his own low rank account where as last week he was getting slaughtered. My point here is that Tanki is now a kid's game that takes no practiced skill....a newbie can now be competitive at any level (up to mid-ranks for sure). That means there is no real skill required anymore...hack and bash works just as well as practiced mastery. Too bad you (and I) spent all that time and effort to get good at this game...because it's all luck and grind now ($$$ with MUs and drugs of course $$$).

ODs are by far the stupidest thing I've seen in Tanki today.
-
When a Wasp activates its OD bomb, it's very difficult to tell which team the bomb is from. The makings on the bomb itself are not bright or big enough. Make the bomb itself red or blue...duh.

I am 100% convinced that these new ODs are just a way to bring in more cash. Tanki does not want you to have free OD supplies...they sell supplies and want you to buy. The original ODs and the choke supplies in all those containers we used to get got us hooked on using supplies...a summer or so ago there was even 3X rewards with massive amounts of supplies. They changed the way we play Tanki. Previously you were slammed if you popped a repair kit, "drugger noob" was bounced about a lot. Now it is the norm. Drug wars were in the high ranks and the lower ranks almost never saw a drug war, just an occasional buyer drugger. Now drug wars are the norm...everyone drugs all the time. Tanki changed the way we play by giving us free drugs, now they are cutting our supply so we have to buy the drugs to support our "habit" or the way we now play. Tanki continues to rein in on the freebie supplies...fewer containers and now no all-supply-ODs in EVERY single battle. The amount of supplies we use from our own stores is going to go up dramatically so their sales of supply kits will skyrocket very soon. I would guess that crystal packs are the major cash cow for Tanki, but after these new ODs, I bet supply kits will be a close second.
-
Nah, not so harsh brah...MM was the worst...this is only second worst :)
-
It strikes me that there is another pretty big payoff for Tanki with these ODs besides all the "darling" hulls of the month and their MUs. Supplies. Yep, think about it...with the previous OD, everyone got a big free supply injection every single game..sometimes two, three, and occasionally four times....DD, DA, S, M, and that all important Repair. Now with these new ODs that is all gone. That is a ton of drugs out of the game. So you have an OD cued up and ready to rock...will you pop it when you are just about to die? ...or will many players pop a repair kit to accompany the OD? I think supply usage is going to at least double if not triple. Tanki sells more drug bundles...lots more, especially since container numbers have been reduced. Drones, batteries, paints, golds, passes, containers, pre-rank early kits, lots of crystal packs, and now hulls with all their MUs along with tons more supply kits...it's a money making machine!
-
Tanki has introduced these "magic hull" features to be able to do with hulls what they have been doing with turrets for a coupe of years. Hulls can now join the endless buff-nerf-buff-nerf-buff-nerf cycle that has sold so many turrets and those costly MUs for Tanki. In fact, I will make a guess that in a few months there will be a new protection-type module introduced for hulls that will minimize their ODs effects...similar to turret protections now. (Remember, you heard it here first). So a darling hull will emerge out of this current chaos and reign supreme. Players will all gravitate towards that OP-ish hull along with it's MUs. Buyers will just buy one and upgrade the snot out of it. After sales start to drop off, Tanki will "re-balance" some or even all of the hull ODs under the guise of making the game more "balanced". A new darling hull will emerge, buyers buy and the cycle continues...ad infinitum...just like the constant upheaval we currently see in turrets. It has NOTHING to do with trying to make a better (more fun) game..it is ONLY a money grab. If Tanki loses another 30% or 40% of their player base, they don't care...as long as they increase their bottom line with the cash buyers that remain.
-
So far all I see is chaos. These ODs might have been pretty cool in a 15 minute or 30 minute battle but for MM and the 7 minute battle they recharge too fast and the maps are too crowded.
-
I'm so grateful for these OverDrives. Now there is NOTHING left of Tanki and I'm pretty sure my addiction is cured...what a garbage game. I will give it a couple more weeks since it's free, but I'm pretty sure Tanki will become part of my past.
