DBF for 24hrs + Sale on "Supplies 1500" and Shop kits
Pink_Legacy replied to theFiringHand in News Archive
How about pro-battles? People seem to forget that there is an option for pro-battles to drug even more than in normal battles. Also, how about being fair to people who like using supplies to some extent? Apparently, in Tanki there are only two kinds of players: those who loathe using one single supply ever, and those who like to use supplies non-stop. But, of course, that wouldn't work. Although I guess that there are some people who actually like playing in battles where everybody drugs as if there were no tomorrow, the crux of the supply issue is that the fun of it is in overpowering other players. Drugging is only fun if 1) you are in the winning team and 2) you drug more than the others. But if you are in the winning team and don't drug, or are in the losing team, then supplies suck. And if everyone in the battles drugs non-stop, then what is the point? You're only wasting supplies to score less points and get less crystals in the end. And that's why Tanki isn't going to do anything about supplies, because they fear that if they did, then druggers would stop having fun and buying the 1,500 supply kit. So it all goes back to poor management decisions. -
DBF for 24hrs + Sale on "Supplies 1500" and Shop kits

Today I tried to play with my brother. Silly me, I thought that DBF stood for "Double Battle Funds," instead of "Drug Battle Festival." Warrant Officer 3 was completely unplayable. We tried our lower rank accounts (some sergeant) and it was slightly better; not because people didn't use drugs but because they didn't know how to play. It seems that people learn how to drug before they learn how to play these days. I was considering to buy something for Tanki's birthday (most likely a paint, as I really don't need any more equipment for the time being), mainly because Tanki is (or was) overall a fun game and I really don't want it to go bankrupt and disappear. But the truth is that I hardly ever have fun with it anymore. I think that Tanki is a great game, but lately it has made several management mistakes, which have cost them players, and might end up costing them the whole game. The first mistake was to get so much money from supplies. And before you look any of my profiles and call me drugger, listen to what I have to say: I like supplies. They are cool and they make the game more interesting. The problem with supplies is that it is all fun and games until somebody starts using them non-stop. Then it stops being fun for everybody, those who use them and those who don't. The only way to have fun when people use supplies non-stop is if you are in the team with most druggers. I guess that some people might actually enjoy drug wars as well, but my hunch is that they are a minority. Tanki should not have made a system to get so much profit from selling supplies, because now the game is not fun and there seems to be no way to stop it. The second was all that stuff with battle creation. First they took away the player's ability to create normal battles. I still do not understand why, maybe it was to fight people who were "cheating the system" to do their missions. As far as I can recall, I was never explained other than being "a step toward the matchmaking system." But that was cool, they made pro-pass a lot cheaper for lower ranks and for a time pro-battles flourished and were sort of fun. Then, of course, they took the missions away from pro-battles. And now, good look trying to fill a pro-battle other than Noise CTF or Polygon CP. The third mistake was merging all the servers. My new pastime in Tanki is to start saying random stuff in Latin every time people write in Russian. All of a sudden, the chat has become useless, at least for me. Not that it was very useful before, but at least you could interact to some extent with other players. Yes, the chat was full of people trying to sell accounts, to trick others into getting their passwords, people asking for gold boxes and so on, but at least you could some times communicate meaningfully with others. Now it's just a foreign game. And it's a pity, because none of these has to do with the game itself, it's all a matter of bad management. The only problem that I see in the game itself is the mission system together with the battle fund distribution. As it is now, it highly encourages players to play in normal battles which they do not enjoy in order to maybe get some crystals. They would love to only play pro-battles, but if they do so, they will lag behind other players who do missions and not be able to buy the proper equipment for their rank. They aren't forced to do missions, but not doing them is almost suicidal. Moreover, if you're a free player, you had better play only to complete missions, and then create more accounts if you want to play more, but if you play much more after completing your missions, you'll be in trouble. This might be very good for the game economy (a phrase that Tanki likes to use a lot but that I still don't quite get), but it is rather bad for the game's life. It simply means that the system encourages you to play less instead of more. If you add the poorly distributed battle funds to that, it creates a system in which players simply abandon losing teams because once you've scored 200 points in a losing team, it is better for you to just leave the battle and score 200 points in a winning team than stay and score another 200 points in the losing team. And so, as soon as it is clear which side is going to win, people starts abandoning the losing team, which is fun for neither the guys in the losing team who stick 'til the bitter end nor for the guys in the winning team. I was really looking forward to the html5 version of the game, and the last livestream left me very excited about the matchmaking. Now, I'm not sure I'll keep playing much longer. Maybe I will, maybe I won't. Hazel said that they've got something big in store for this summer and that soon the number of players is going to increase a lot. I don't know if he truly believes that, or he is simply trying to encourage players to keep buying. Anyway, I'll stick around for the summer, and then we'll see, 'cause if I don't have fun, it's not fun to play.- 158 replies

lol, no need to add a bunch of extra cards and stuff; just give us the same prices that you give to the Russians, and we'll buy more, promise. (sorry I sound like a broken record, but I had to say it)

That's hardly a good deal...

Sales on Shop paints, servers merged, new paints, and more

I've been thinking the exact same thing for a long time. Tanky really needs to change the mindset of "It is our game, we can do as we please, you deal with it," and start dealing with players as if they were real people. I don't know about the Russian context, and maybe for Russia they are doing alright. But if they want to do business in the Western world, they had better hire somebody who knows about the market and can make a good marketing plan and set reasonable prices in the Shop, instead of keeping their attitude of "We want same money from American player than we get from Russian player; therefore American player plays double." Most of the items in the European shop are simply overpriced. €1 for 1,500 crystals? That's ridiculous. My hunch is that if they bothered to actually study the European market and price their items accordingly, they would get more money overall than what they get by sticking to the policy that Tanki needs to get the exact same money, so American player pays all the extra cost. After the livestream, I was really excited about the matchmaking system and Tanki's finally migrating to html5. I was even considering buying something for Tanki's birthday. After merging the servers I ask, why? 90% of the players that I will find on the battlefield can get the same thing twice as cheap, and I can't even communicate with them. You might as well get rid of the English community altogether. -

My only one question is this: After putting all the European players together with the Russian players, is Tanki going to reduce the prices in the Shop, so that European and North-American players can still compete with Russian buyers, or is Tanki going to keep scaring away international buyers? -

Please, enlighten me, what's the problem with this update? I kinda understood people's complaints when they changed premium (didn't agree with, but understood), but this update, mate, they are having sales on paints, for crying out loud. Besides, Hazel never said that they would remove pro battles. He said that eventually pro pass might not be necessary anymore, and that the battles that don't come from the matchmaking system would be customisable. According to Cedric's announcement, it seems to me that the paints are sold only in the shop, so there would be no rank limit. -
I'd like to know how the migration to html5 is going. I know that it will be finished when it is finished and that it is difficult to give dates. All I'm asking is if the developing team has started re-coding the game in html or not.
-
That's absolutely right. I was just simplifying to make the writing easier.
-
But, didn't they announce it on the past v-log?
-
Not quite. If the chance to drop a gold box is normally 1/10,000 (I think that's what it is), then x2 gold means that the chance is 1/5,000, so one gold box drops every 5,000 crystals in the battle fund. The multiplier on the battle funds only makes it faster to reach that amount, so it affects the chances indirectly, not directly.

The thing is that many of Tanki's problems (lag, hackers, et al) can't really be solved without migrating to another language. These are problems that come from flash itself, and therefore Tanki cannot solve them as long as they use flash. They can somewhat improve it to some extent, but not make it work smoothly.
-
Technically, as modifications go higher up, the relative difference of protection among hulls stays the same (that is, heavy hulls are always 100% tougher that light hulls) while medium and heavy hulls become comparatively faster. Therefore, at modifications above M1 light hulls are at disadvantage. He might be biased, but he is right.
-
Indeed, Tanki will be ruined, just as YouTube was completely ruined when they migrated from flash to html5. Oh, wait, most of the people didn't even notice the change... Now seriously, many of the issues that are a problem in Tanki, such as lag, low quality, issues that Linux users face, the fact that FPS can never go above 60, and so on, are much better handled by html5. Flash is an outdated language that is bound to disappear. Html is much better for this kind of thing.

I've been thinking that very same thing ever since I started playing.

Sometimes you want to buy more than one shop item at once. As far as I know, currently the only way to do it is doing a check-out for each item, which is a bore because you've got to do all the security steps and stuff. I think that it would be much more convenient if you could add all the items that you want to buy in a shopping basket and then do the check-out for all of them together, so that you would only need to do one transaction.
-
Okay, let's see how much we would pay for each item separately: 100,000 crystals: €29.99 for 105,000 crystals +1 day of premium 5 gold boxes: €5 3 days of premium + 60 of each supply: €3 if you buy 7 days of premium So, in total we've got 105,000 crystals, 5 gold boxes, and 8 days of premium. We'll receive 24 repair kits and 80 of each other supply instead of 69 repair kits and 90 of each other supply, but we've got 12,500 more crystals, more than enough to buy those supplies. We have spent exactly €37.99, which is far below €75. Oh, yeah, we forgot to add the paint. Let's average it to a €13.99 paint. The total cost is €51.98. So, in normal conditions, the price would be half of what the items would cost separately, great. But let's add one more consideration to the mix: I doubt that anybody would buy crystals unless they had a double crystal card, at least, I wouldn't. If we had it, we could buy 90,000 crystals for €14.99, which is only 15,000 less for half the price. So it would put the total amount that we are spending to €36.98. If we really want to make up for the difference in crystals, we can buy 15 days of premium instead of 7, which would cost €38.98. By the way, if we take the paint away, then the price goes down to €24.99. So, basically, the bundle is a free paint. All things considered, I do not think it's such a good deal. I would rather buy two months of premium and five gold boxes, and I would get 50% more crystals and ten times more supplies for the same price. I do get what you say about Tanki's business, though. It's an online gaming company, and that's how this kind of business works. I do not think that Tanki are a bunch of money-hungry people. Moreover, as far as I know, they do a lot of sales for an online game. They're cool people. But, honestly, the only reason that I can think of to buy the bundle is that you really want that paint. Otherwise, it's not worth it.

I don't think so. For Christmas and again for April's fools I got two special holiday missions on the same day.
-
No, but it said in the garage description that you could use it to trick people into thinking that your tank was a destroyed tank. Oh well, I guess my age is playing mind games with me.
-
When I started playing this game early last year, I seem to remember that there was a paint that looked a lot like a destroyed tank, I think that it was called 'Rust,' or 'Rusty' or something like that. But the last day I tried to find it in the garage and I couldn't. I also can't seem to find it in the Wiki, neither with the available paints nor with the retired paints. Does that sound familiar to anyone? Did that paint really exist or is my mind playing tricks with me? What happened to it?

No, I'm honestly trying to understand how your idea would apply to damage boost and how that would be qualitatively different from the current double damage.- 2,759 replies

I would still go for Hooligan. I have tried both in different accounts and I'm much happier with Hooligan's performance.

I'm sorry, when I read this I really thought that you meant that supplies should add a constant value. So, if it should add a different value to each turret, how exactly should that be different than adding X% to its damage?- 2,759 replies

But the game economy highly encourages it.
