    Let's discuss cars

The first car I purchased was a 1954 English Ford. It was a 3 speed stick and the transmission wasn't synchronized. It had a 4 banger aluminum engine. Top speed was 55 mph. Going up a steep hill would have been faster if I got out and pushed. With all its faults, I loved that little car. My Dad took the engine out to rebuild it. An arson set his shop on fire and part of the engine had begone to melt. Before the advent of on-board computers, I was a shade tree mechanic. I did all the repair work on my trucks. The only time any of my vehicles ended up in the shop was because of blown caskets, replenish the Freon (I didn't have the equipment to do that) and to grind down the disk brakes and replace the calipers. In one of the trucks, I managed to strip and bust up a couple spider gears. My brother accused me of hot rodding (fast starts, speed shifting, anything that puts undue stress on the gears). "Who ME!?. Not ME. I don't know how to do any of that stuff." His answer was, "Then you loaned it out to someone who did." He knew darn good and well that I would never loan my vehicle to anyone. B-U-S-T-E-D. We worked together on it. It took us an entire day (time wise) and 2 days of waiting for parts. Neither of us knew what we were doing. I had to buy a mechanic's manual. When vehicles came out with on-board computers, I began to hear some horrible stories from other shade tree mechanics about how they or someone they knew had ruined vehicles because they didn't understand how the computers worked. They worked on vehicles as they had always done, which did not agree with the computers. A friend of mine and I started up a business repairing and restoring antique and classic cars. If the mechanics was completely shot, we cannibalized the body and sold it at antique / classic swap meets. ;Two cars I had a lot of "fun" restoring was a 1929 Model T and a 1945 Jeep. Of course there were others we restored, but those two were a big challenge. A friend of ours completely rebuilt from the ground up a 193(2?) V-12 Cadillac. It took him a little over 3 years. Highly polished (lacquer?) black paint with real chrome accoutrements.

    Multwatch

Funny. When MM was implemented, we were told it would fix the mult problem. They still won't accept the idea of the game having mults. Some of the Mods have tried to make excuses for mults by saying the player is lagging or the player is in the garage and just looks like he's multing. Other Mods have said that one cannot tell if a player is multing or not. Another excuse is maybe he came in late. That's why no score. Well, I say, if a player has gone through at least half the battle (3 minutes at least) and has no score at all, then there is something wrong. One of the pictures above showed a player with no kills, but 2 deaths. Those 2 deaths were probably because he self destructed. Maybe the Powers to be would view those 2 deaths as proof that the player was not multing. With all this in mind, what is the definition of multing and what would be definitive proof a player is multing?
  3. Devs have to account for their time. Fixing bugs and glitches takes time and shows less time accountability, whereas, adding new features is more tangible in time management. If you had to show your Boss what you do in a week's time, would you rather show him something he can see and understand, or something you have to explain and hope he understands?
  4. Yes, you're right, if this was implemented, there should be a message stating why. There are times when I'm playing effectively and suddenly I see a black screen for a reason unbeknownst to me.

    Very Lucky moments we've had!

I use Vulcan 99.99% of the time with Titan. Otherwise, I use Viking, which can be a little tricky, too.

    Weird hobbies

I know most fanfiction can't be published because of copyright infringement. However, some original authors either grant permission or just don't care, while others will try to get a lawsuit against the fanfiction writer. Have you run into any of that, or do you write for your own pleasure and stash the story / book somewhere in a box?

    Mars Race

Yes, they are, but they will be doing the preliminary set ups for colonization and getting refueling areas set up. The fuel they'll be using will be made of Methane from Mars atmosphere and water (I don't understand the water part). The Mars One group will be launched by NASA in 2032. By that time, the first crews should have living facilities ready for them.
  8. That's true. Tanki was much more simpler back then and I had a new computer ("Hey Dude!! You're getting a Dell!) so I doubt it was me doing all the lagging. There were a lot of players complaining about lag, as there is now. The Mods were telling us to reduce the screen size. I was on Iran map and lagging terribly. I reduced my screen size to not much larger than a large postage stamp. Everyone looked like ants running around. Some laggers do have a problem driving. A few days ago, I saw a Wasp that would move forward and suddenly make a 90* right angle turn, turn around come back, make a sudden 90* left angle turn, then a 45* left turn all in about 1-1/2 seconds, very fast. Then he stopped completely for a second. He started up again and seemed alright. Next time I saw him, he was making those sharp quick turns again and ran under his teammate. After that, he logged out. He isn't the only one I've seen do that, but he's a prime example. On rare occasions, I see tanks turn into a building. Personally, I don't have a big problem with laggers like that. I know that in some areas of the globe, the players are very far away from a server, probably just on the edge of the signal. It's not their fault, so I try to be tolerant of them and kinda feel sorry for them. Yes, they have run into my tank and knocked my aim off, plus the other aforementioned problems. But there are players who are not lagging who do the same thing on purpose. Just another day on Tanki.
  9. You're right!! I forgot about those. I logged in each account just to get the daily rewards.

Best way to jump with a Titan is straight backwards. As soon as you land on your tailpipe, put the tracks in forward gear. Since the lightest part of the tank is in the rear, it seems the way to go is forward, but for some unknown reason, if you jump backwards, you're less likely to flip. But you have to make sure you land directly on your tailpipe. If you go off at an angle you'll land on your side.

Which one came first: Egg or Chicken?

    That topic makes more sense.

    Mars Race

I can't tell if you are serious or being sarcastic. Anyway, it's NASA that's going to sending the Mars One group to Mars. The private companies are planning to get there earlier and start setting up so the Mars One crew has someplace to live and fuel for the ships. Both groups will have ships going back and forth for needed supplies. A small colony on the Moon is still on the drawing board. The idea is to have the Moon as a way station for supplies so the ships won't have to make the long haul to Earth.
  13. I beg to differ with you about the crystals. The non-buying players had to choose between MUing the turret or the hull....or buying supplies. Most players chose to MU. You could always tell those who chose to buy supplies instead of MUs. They were easy kills and couldn't survive without supplies. Yes, some had a ton, but at the expense of their hull and turret. These players never bought an M1 of anything.
  14. What's so stupid, is my M2 10/10 Vulcan rarely kills a Wasp. What's worse is just milliseconds before I kill him he sets off the bomb. My Vulcan finally kills the Wasp and the Wasp kills me with the bomb.
  15. These are some of the thoughts I've had and have: Devs have a ring in our nose, they lead and we follow. Psychological warfare. Before the update actually occurs, they tell us how much it will benefit the players, how different it is, how much more fun Tanki will be, Tanki marches on with the new and improved. They try to set us up with all the positive aspects without telling us the downfalls. We get all pumped up, try it out and get POed when we find out all the negative aspects that were hidden from us. (It's called....Transparency) The Devs have to come up with something to account for their time. Someone comes up with an idea, everyone (or most everyone) agrees. The code is written and the idea is implemented without proper testing or to see how the codes affects other aspects of the game. Some may say, "They do test on the test servers." Yes, for somethings they do, but how many changes have you seen that was not tested on the test servers? (My Opinion Only) The CEO looks like Slave Driving Dictator. But as they say, "You can't judge a book by its cover." He may be the Cool Cat at work and a Party Hound after hours. I wonder how much of the Russian culture and idealism is reflected in the game. I'm a German Polak with a drop of Russian. All of it is reflected in my family. Very confusing, growing up. Instead of fixing a piece of code, they put a bandaid on it. Recently, we have been told that Tanki is outdated and not worth fixing because they are working on HTML5. Understandable, but how about before HTML5. Yes, may bugs and glitches seemingly have been fixed. If that be the case, then how come some of the old bugs and glitches come back to haunt us occasionally? The pat answer is all of our potato computers and no one knows how to dump a cache. Ok, ok, some don't. But every time I have a problem with Tanki, but not with any other multiplayer game from Europe, I get the links on how to dump my cache. I'm about to embark on a Stephen King novel, so I should stop here before I get into too much trouble. Some thoughts are better kept to oneself.

    Why doesn't anyone defend anymore?

30 seconds, huh. That long. Hummmm...I must be doing something wrong, like getting killed. Or maybe it's because the only decent weapon I have for DM is Firebird/Viking. I just recently purchased Gauss, but am not using it very often until I get some MUs behind it. I try to avoid DMs unless there are some good crystals to be had. If it's batteries and/or supplies, I'll change it. But if it's a mission like play 2 battles I'll do it. The others I'll change.
  17. Funds weren't very high and was difficult to save enough to have very many. Most players coveted their supplies and used them sparingly. At any given time, I never had any more than 10 of each supply and even that was rare. Most times I went into battle with no supplies because I was saving up for the next batch.
  18. I agree with you on all points. It may have been pay to win, but not at all like it is now. There weren't that many buyers, so the M3 Marshal wasn't such a big deal in every battle. Marshal was the highest rank. There weren't very many battle choices. I think it was DM then TDM and later CTF was introduced. In DM and TDM you were awarded crystals according to you kills. CTF was different. When it was first introduced, if a team didn't get a flag capped, they didn't get any crystals for their efforts. This was done to encourage players to fight for it. If your team managed to get a cap, then your efforts started counting, but crystal payout was very very low. Of course the winning team got the vast majority of the battle fund. I remember if I got more than 50 crystals, I was doing great. That's why the 10 crystal blue boxes were farmed so heavily and it was usually the Mammoths that won the sweet spot.

    Why doesn't anyone defend anymore?

This game used to have teamwork that worked, but the Devs have designed the game to discourage teamwork. It's all about me, me, me.
  20. There was a strategy that was a lot of fun. 3 or 4 tanks would ghost inside a Mammoth to get past enemy lines. The Mammoth would get the ghosting tanks into or near the enemy base, stop and distract them while the next tank would come out, materialize and keep going while the others kept ghosting. That one would get closer, stop and start shooting. The next take would materialize and grab the flag. Sometimes it worked out where a Hornet grabbing the flag would still have a Wasp ghosting inside. If the Hornet was killed, the Wasp would materialize and complete the journey to his base. This wasn't done very often because it took a lot of planning and players who know how it worked. But it sure came in handy when the enemy team OP the other. When battles were 30 minutes long, a lot of strategizing went on with both teams. Wasps and Hornets were used as scouts to report back to the team where the strongest tanks were or the largest group. Since the battles were so long and everyone spoke the same language, we got to know each others strong and weak points. In a short while, strategy wasn't always planned, but we thought like a team and could figure out the game plan without saying a word. At times there would be a player who seemed to have this strategy thing down pat and we dubbed him our Leader. We played as a team dong teamwork. Not as individuals on a team playing for themselves. No one cared who got the most kills or who got the cap. It was all a team effort working towards an objective. Because we could choose our battles, we were more apt to choose one where our strong points laid. We did a much better job at team balancing then the MM could only hope to have.
  21. I know this wasn't a MM match. So, if ODs weren't disabled, then all's fair in love and war.
  22. On 21 July 2019, I asked this question in conjunction with a comment I made, but it never got answered. http://en.tankiforum.com/index.php?showtopic=380245&page=3&do=findComment&comment=6724753 Is there a self-destruct mechanism in place to prevent Island jumping in parkour? There shouldn't be.
  23. Yes, that's the one. I don't remember that layout, but that was several years ago I played it and I was still a new kid on the block. I jumped down on that island to see if there was perhaps a tunnel or something. That map might have had possibilities for Last Man Standing. Thank you for finding that.

    Mars Race

I recently read another article that indicated the possibility have having a layover station on the moon and continuing from there. It has been discussed, but no concrete plans have been made. It also mentioned the possibility of launching a satellite similar to the Space Station, but only bigger. The Shuttle would have to be bigger than the ones we have seen thus far to accommodate the crews and equipment they would need to get started. I haven't found much on transportation, as yet, but I'm sure NASA and private companies are working on it.
  25. The timer is much too short for a JGR battle. I'm surprised anyone gets a chance to be at the controls.
