[Issue 42] [Story] Warphare: Interpersonal
MandolinMarc replied to sonofchrysalis3 in Newspaper Archive
Whoa there chrysalis... I'm quite lost on that ending. Help? :P -
Congrats to @FederalBureauFBI, forum admin and leader of the EN Facebook moderator team, on his 4 year forum anniversary! :)

I couldn't agree more Semyon! Players and helpers have historically been very close, which is one of the things which makes the Tanki project such a unique one. I feel that a bit of distance has been growing in between these two parties recently, and I'm glad you feel the same way.

"Generalissimo Federalissimo"... try saying that 10 times fast!

^ I enjoyed that video quite a bit :D

I suspected just as much. Freedom of speech doesn't mean freedom to swear and insult.

If an object weighing 300 kilograms is released between two planetary objects of the same density, one of which is 20% more massive, does anybody care?
-
Sorry, honorable staff member!

, I can't thank you enough for making this topic. Your words are very genuine, and your voice of reason is exactly what the community needs in this moment of turmoil. As a soon-to-be Tanki staff member myself, I'd like to pitch in by saying that I'm not at all frustrated or worried by the recent turbulence in the community caused by the announcement of Premium accounts and by Sami's recent videos. On the contrary, I believe that it's causing some much needed discussion between players and staff members. One of the many things that makes Tanki a unique game is how close players and staff members have always been. Players themselves run a huge portion of the Tanki project, from directing tournaments to running social media pages. I've recently felt a bit of tension and distance growing between players and staff members, and I feel that the discussion caused by this recent turbulence is greatly helping to mend this gap.

The majority of posts disagreeing with this update are hastily written and not too thoroughly worked out The majority of posts in favor of this update are much longer and much more elaborate. Just noticing ;)

While I agree that it would be nice to see more diversity in the maps played by high rankers, there is definitely value in having certain maps be more commonly played than others. Players get to know the ins and outs of these maps, leading to more interesting, tactical gameplay.

What did any mods do wrong in the first place? Yes, one wrongly thought Sami was hacking, but it's not like mods are flawless human beings... DJax claims that a Russian mod banned and unbanned his friend just to get crystals, but he provides absolutely no evidence for this.
-
That's a fair point, but then again, Premium subscriptions aren't going to be cheap (at least, I hope not!), so its owner is making a substantial contribution to the Tanki project, which I'd say deserves something special.
-
It's funny how the masses are saying how horrible Premium Accounts are, and yet nobody is providing any alternate solutions that will similarly increase Tanki's income. I once heard a quote that went something like, if you haven't got a solution, don't bring up the problem.
-
@canadarules has a good point -- we're exaggerating the effect that the Premium paint will have on gameplay. It's not like a battle is ruined when a couple players have Helper paint.
-
Exactly! We must extinguish all salty hater rage.

Wow, what a post! I would bring up a couple of points. First, just a factual thing -- it's been officially announced on the forum that the protection of Premium paint has been changed to 15% against all turrets and mines, instead of 20%, based on player feedback. Second, you draw a sharp distinction between "free-to-play tankers" and "buyers,' which I find a bit odd. You say that the game's decline in players is due to "free to play tankers leaving," which doesn't make much sense. Just because you've yet to purchase crystals doesn't mean that you never can. You seem to take a harsh tone towards "buyers", as if they're responsible for all the flawed bits of Tanki. It only makes sense that those who financially support Tanki Online should be rewarded, which inevitably involves gaining some sort of advantage over other players. Third, you keep saying the developers don't listen to players, as if the players are all united behind one opinion. Fourth, you have to realize that forum mods, and all mods for that matter, are just players like me and you who have volunteered to help the community in one of many ways. He just got flustered and over-reacted to some negative comments. So what? And fifth, you say that the aspect of drugs in Tanki gives some players unfair advantages, as if only a select few players are allowed to use drugs. Drugs are a part of the game, and they aren't unfair to anyone -- anyone can use them, and anyone can buy them with crystals. Yes, they can be frustrating, but they can also make gameplay more interesting.

As much of a forum troll as you typically are, sometimes you're just plain right.
-
Tanki needs to make money? I thought it grew on their two-dimensional trees!
-
That's a good point -- you could think of this paint as a reward for those who financially support Tanki Online. Premium Accounts aren't going to be cheap.
-
Great! I think this is a fair compromise between rewarding those who financially support the game and listening to players' input.
-
That was a purely heartwarming final post.
-
What it all comes down to is that players are too cut off from staff & administration. That explains why Sami's recent videos revealing some of the inner workings of Tanki have enjoyed so much success.
-
This is nothing short of a genius solution to the problem of no-shows in tournaments. , you're an incredibly dedicated, creative tournament organizer.
-
The point of a tournament isn't necessarily to judge the best clans.
