Episode 169 of the V-LOG is live!

Ahhhh, reverse psychology...like with little children! Right. This update is AWFUL. I'm gonna quit Tanki and never play again. Who could possibly want to be able to play when they wished? Outrageous, I want to feel obligated to do my missions everyday and feel the pressure to keep my mission chain intact. If players can take a break with no punishment, what will be the motivation for players to even log in? It is the END of Tanki...Tanki in the tank...bye bye...so long.

The upcoming update could be called "The Mission Chain Un-Chained Change. Say that three time very fast...I think we have our first Tanki tongue-twister.

Why will there stay there for the full battle time. I would expect there will be lots and lots of very quick desertions as soon as the losing side is assumed. MM will send in other players that are in queue so the battle will remain full, but I'm pretty sure the losing team will consistently lose originally starting players. Actually, this is probably one of the two worst things about MM...when MM shoves you into a losing team half-way through a battle...little reward, little xp, little in time battle, little chance to complete a mission. Battles will be full, and MM may put you into the beginning of a battle, but it may throw you into an ongoing battle just as easily...and the winning team is just never going to have as many vacancies as the losing team. The other problem with MM will be in everything but peak play times, you may find yourself out ranked by many levels. MM is concerned with "balance" of teams not equality of individual players. In other words it will be OK with MM to send a rank 11 into a battle with mostly rank 19s and 20s as long as there is a rank 11 on each team. It will suck to be the lowest rank in any given battle...winning or losing team.

This is also a very very good point. Tanki might experience organic growth again! To be competitive as it is now you either have to be dedicated or spend real money....or even spend real money AND be dedicated. The new system may very well motivate new, more casual players to join. It may also attract some of the tens of thousands of players that liked playing Tanki but found it becoming too frustrating, or just quit playing after whatever nasty update broke the camel's back for them. PS >>> Since week 10 is four, week 9 must be three...that leaves weeks 8, 7, 6, 5, and 4 in question. I just gotta believe that they won't dial week 4 back to one container so I bet it is two. Week 10 gives an extra so that balances out week 9 at three each. So the max we could lose would be five containers even in this build up period. I would guess that week 8 and maybe 7 or even 6 might get three containers so, my guess is that we are looking at only losing out on 2 or 3 containers as we move from week 4 to week 10. And eventually, regardless of the actual number lost (2 to 5), we will be getting more containers...so, overall, even bigger chances of Eternity Paint...maybe just a bit of a delay.

I think this is a fair analysis. The two big points here are Tanki will become less stressful being freed up from the mission chain and thereby making it more enjoyable again. Another point that hasn't been mentioned is Pro-Battles. They may played more after this next update and Tanki has said that they plan to do away with the pay-pro-pass completely when MM hits. This basically means any player will be able to create battles on any map, in any mode they like...maybe even be able to adjust rank brackets and other criteria of each battle...in other words we may get to go back to mostly the GOOD OLD VERSION of Tanki because we don't have to complete daily missions! I think this is a brilliant possible outcome! Do your missions, don't do your missions, pick and choose, do 1, 3, or 0 a day, take a year or a few weeks to get to the top tier rewards, or make bank from the son of pro-battles. This new update sounds like it will give us back much of the freedom we have lost over the last year, and, promises to make Tanki GREAT AGAIN. Who would have thought the Devs could have actually pulled this off! Maybe they aren't the drooling morons I pegged them to be...could they be...well...crafty?

OP will be the norm. So Op will not be OP. One interesting eventual outcome to the new mission chain system is that almost ALL mid and high ranked players will have fully MUed equipment. Eventually (a few months from now), even very casual players will get to week 10 and will get high rewards every time they manage to complete seven more missions. This has to translate into upgrading/buying equipment. It won't take long to see the vast majority of players with fully MUed equipment. I actually foresee lots of fully MUed tanks at M1 ranks...many even in M0.

Episode 169 of the V-LOG is live!

I've been contemplating the new mission chain system. I am usually very negative about updates, but I think this will be a very good change in the long run. Most of the drama and trauma in Tanki is based around income in one way or another. I have been violently opposed to MatchMaking because I fear it will impact my income, thereby keeping me from upgrading as soon as possible and therefore wasting my time. The new mission chain system takes all the pressure off keeping the chain going. If there is no pressure to complete a mission or three each day, much of the problem I had with MatchMaking will disappear. If you get a junk mission after your one free change, let it slide...eventually you will get to week 10 anyway and your reward income becomes static (less container roulette :) ) MM doesn't seem nearly as evil and vile as it did when we were forced to keep up a daily mission chain (forced if you wish to remain competitive anyway). As I think about this it gets better and better. Hats off to you Tanki...I think you actually may be making the game better. Well, better after the horrors you have been inflicting on us poor downtrodden players for over a year. I still think Tanki was much better before the Paint Separation update, with diverse turrets and hulls, many and unique maps each with their own quirks and flavor, and lots of control over how we played the game. Now we will all play in a very uniform manor on the same old tired homogenized maps, but at least it promises not to be horrible. Tanki seems like it will still be playable after MM happens with this next update. I may have to pull a few pins out of my Tanki Voodoo Doll.

The downside to that may translate into a waiting period to join a battle...that has the potential to be annoying. It also means all standard battles will always be jam-packed...always. Homogenization again...all battles the same, only the players change...Agario

Episode 169 of the V-LOG is live!

Gosh, so cynical :), although by Tanki logic you may be right...hope not. It should be 4 in the 10th week though so that has to mean 3 for week 9, sure. Anyway, if we keep grinding missions like we have been for months and months, we are only 42 days away from that sweet extra 10th week container. We will probably lose few containers as we move towards week 10, but eventually we will come out to the good side of the container count...well, that is if Tanki doesn't go belly up from MatchMaking.

My take is that it will stay at the week 10 level indefinitely. Week 11; play six days the first week in June, play the seventh day the last week in August and you just completed week 11 and get the same reward you got for week 10. Complete another seven days of missions over "X" amount of time and get the same reward you got for week 10...ad infinitum

I think they need this for MM. Players are more likely to stay on a losing side if it is only getting slaughtered for five or six minutes of pain as opposed to mass exodus when they know there is ten or eleven minutes of the slaughter left to go until the blowout finishes. The shortened time also probably interfaces better with the assumed characteristics of the future "phone" player (I bet the mobile device players will be low hanging fruit).

    Just a guessing game, but here is my bet: Viking4s ByeByeBye Week 1 => 0 Container 0 Week 2 => 0 Container 1 Week 3 => 0 Container 1 > Week 4 => 1 Containers instead of 3 2 Week 5 => 1 Containers 2 Week 6 => 2 Containers 2 Week 7 => 2 Containers 3 Week 8 => 3 Containers 3 Week 9 => 3 Containers 3 Week 10 => 4 Containers 4

Another interesting outcome of this mission chain change will be that everyone will be at week ten eventually. It may take 70 days from the beginning point of no missions completed or completely open-ended...140 days, 365 days, three years (if MatchMaking doesn't kill Tanki in a few months). Eventually everyone that plays Tanki will get to week 10 and it sounds like we will all stay at week 10. OK, cool. I'm just very happy about being unchained from the mission chain...that goes a long way to offsetting some of the evil that I foresee coming from MatchMaking.

Episode 169 of the V-LOG is live!

It will be good to be unchained from the mission chain...very good. My greed has made me keep up with my chain everyday for months and months. The only break was the New Year debacle. For me, the ability to skip a day or a week is a great improvement, but I think it may have an impact on the number of players online. I can't be the only maniacally driven player to be religious about their mission chain. If we devotees can skip, with no downside, I bet we will...that has to equate to less players online....maybe not overall players of the game, but less players online at one time. That might even alleviate some of the constantly jam-packed battles...well, until the evil MatchMaking starts.
  18. Realistically the only way to just play pro battles is to be a buyer. Without the huge weekly mission reward (especially the 3 containers), it would very quickly become impossible to upgrade enough to stay competitive as you rank up. As it is now, you either pay real money to buy equipment and crystals or you must do daily missions to reap the crystal rewards to buy the equipment and upgrades.

    Cosmonautics Day has landed!

This is what I thought it was going to be initially. This would be fun...look up in the sky when you hear the siren and plot the trajectory. It should be a longer time between siren and landfall though. The marked drop site made the mechanic pointless...only swapped dictators for wasp/hornets...still terribly unbalanced. See a meteor trail across the sky and let all the catchers make a run for it instead of just finding the drop zone and camping. I didn't care for the meteor mechanic even slightly other than the cool graphic. I'm very happy it is finished.

    Cosmonautics Day has landed!

I don't like the gold box mechanic at all. The speed up of the drop pretty much gutted the fun of gold boxes...now they are just annoying because they really disrupt the game play. As far as I can see all it has done is trade Dictators for Wasps and Hornets...now there is no chance for large hulls and almost no chance for the medium hulls. I also noticed that CTF was much harder with all the speed hackers playing. Overall, the graphic is very cool, but the actual mechanic is absolutely terrible.

    Cosmonautics Day has landed!

Meteor golds...looks fun. 10X gold...great: Thank You Tanki. 50/70 MU/SU very nice. BUT why no discount on ALTERATIONS yet again? This is the 4th event in a row to not have any discount on alterations. Women's Day...no sale on Alterations Crazy Weekend...no sale on Alterations April Fools...no sale on Alterations Cosmonauts Day...no sale on Alterations Iron Days, back in Feb was the last time we saw a sale on Alterations. I guess I will wait until May Days...maybe then.
  22. The trouble here is "balanced battles" mean something completely different to Tanki than to us...or at least most of us. Balance to me is pretty much equal rank brackets or equal-ish "effectiveness ratings" and this is how Tanki originally pitched deciding on where you would be placed in a battle with MM. Recently they just said a "balanced battle" didn't mean close rank brackets or even close effectiveness ratings. All MM needs for balance is a balance of teams. So, it can place very low ranked (weak) players in with very high ranked (strong) players as long as there is the same amount of low ranked (weak) players on the other team...balance by Tanki standards. If you are one of those low ranked players you get slaughtered. I'm already preparing myself to lose my favorite game becasue I am 90% sure MM will pretty much be junk.
  23. Tanki is more fun to play now than in 2017, but it was much better in 2015 and earlier, so my vote is still a resounding NO. The Paint Separation marks the beginning of the downfall for me even thought that particular update was fairly benign...it was the start of a long string of ill conceived updates. The containers and recent ASL and RGB have made a big improvement. With the containers everyone has choke drugs so, even though drug use is greater and absolutely necessary in non-pro daily mission battles, they are only a distraction from game play as you decide which drug to use next. At least you don't have to worry much about your supply cache. The only real drug now is the repair kit...it still gives one pause as to whether it is time to use one or not...conservation is still present...DD is automatic either before clicking a S or just after, DA if there is time before you die, and then the actual contemplation...should I pull the pin on a repair kit? RGB is a great format although a real drug fest. ASL is interesting and fun as long as you can choose attack or defend based on the battle list. When MM enters the picture ASL will go to hell quickly since luck will be the controlling factor of team choice. At this point, both formats have freshened the game overall. Something I am starting to see recently is that all the crystals people are getting from the containers and high weekly rewards means there are more and more fully MUed turrets and hulls at all ranks. So again Tanki has found a way to homogenize the game. If everyone can quickly acquire a fully MUed tank, no one has an advantage...just like if everyone has tons of drugs, no one has an advantage. The gold box update was a shame. It's still nice to catch a gold box, but it is just luck now and being in the right place at the right time. The real fun of trying for golds has been gutted...just like all of Neo-Tanki...still fun, but not as much fun as it used to be. Oh well, I intend to enjoy what has been left to us while I still can. MatchMaking is looming on the horizon and that will remove the last vestiges of what made Tanki fun. With no choice or control in almost anything, Tanki will become just a casual diversion, a time waster type of game instead of a game where players are devoted to the game.

What to buy? Which is better?

I guess I worded my question wrong. This is EXACTLY the information I'm really looking for. Thank you for interrupting what I said into what you knew I meant.
  25. ByeByeBye

What to buy? Which is better?

That is really horrible news. I hate Magnums. I intend to hit the M3 scene at a full run. I have enough crystals saved to buy Taiga and MU it to 10, maybe even 15 as soon as time allows. The kit comes with a triple protection which I will do the 1st and maybe 2nd MU on, but I'd like to have another double or triple M2 protection fully MUed to 10 of my choice. At rnk #27 it will turn into M3 and I can start pushing it to M4 as crystals allow.
