Do the Devs even realize that their new "cool" ideas are ruining the game?
ThirdOnion replied to EmeraldCat in Archive
It is very strange to scrap a business venture you have sunk a lot of effort and money into, and to forgo a great opportunity to gain players and revenue into just because the controls are (ostensibly) not ideal. The jumps in power that the modification system offered were too great. Players only a few ranks higher had access to far better equipment. In addition, subsequent modifications were significantly more expensive than the ones before them, and there was a long gap in ranks between them. This was especially true with M2s, which cost three to four times as much as M1s. Players were required to save crystals for long periods of time, and not all players did so. It was common to see players with M1s at ranks when they should have had M2s because they had spent their crystals unwisely. With the Mk system, upgrades are incremental and less expensive. Coupled with the relatively recent increase to EXP gains, this allows players to keep their garage competitive without having to save crystals for long periods of time (and thus decreasing the possibility of wasting them). Because unlocking the next Mk is much faster than it was unlocking the next M, there is no reason in my opinion to micro-upgrade anything except for Mk7 and possibly Mk6, so I don't see how upgrades take longer. -
The developers have expressed interest in allowing players to customize their UI.

Hovering hulls were designed with mobile players in mind - standard hulls are more difficult to control for them. Why should the Mk system be reverted? Mks spread more upgrades across the ranks so that there is less of a power difference between similar ranks. -
How exactly does temperature neutralisation work in Tanki?

@TheCongoSpider In my understanding, yes. -

Temperature neutralization occurs at one second intervals. -

According to the Temperature wiki page: So your intuition was indeed correct. -

Replacing drop boxes with crystals is really lame, as the Engineer drone is rendered useless. Guess I will save on batteries for the next few days.

Perhaps it is possible that the delay in afterburn could just be caused by latency? -
MM places my Third Lieutenant account, with 3k GS, against players with 5k, 6k, and sometimes even 7k GS. Thanks TO, very cool.

The Flash version will be disabled on December 2nd.

I agree. But it is unlikely that IB will be modified so that this is the case, because then IB + HI would be useless and I imagine the devs would not want that. So I am proposing making IB + HI almost useless but not quite by introducing an upside that kicks in in very specific scenarios.

It is still an upgrade from stock Vulcan. One might argue that Adrenaline does nothing if the user is not affected by the enemy in some way. Besides, if the user does not equip Heat Immunity, they will be able to ignite enemies when overheating.
-
If the Vulcan is under influence of a status effect, it will inflict that status effect on any targets that it hits.
-
It means that Flash shutting down will not lead to a significant decrease of players in MM.
-
It is still possible to play MM in Flash, you just can't select a specific mode.
-
That's up to you. Round destabilization increases the average damage, but also increases the damage range. You will do a lot of damage on some shots and very little damage on others.

@DestrotankAI9 I agree that Heat Immunity is the main problem. But I highly doubt that it will be nerfed, ever. First, it is likely a decent source of revenue, being available for Tankoins only. Second, in the most recent livestream, the developers said that they believe being able to fire without overheating is the ideal way to play Vulcan (i.e. with Heat Immunity). I also considered an internal heating parameter, but again, the developers think you should be able to use Vulcan without overheating. I strongly disagree, but nonetheless I had to concede that stock Vulcan + Heat Immunity had to remain as it is. So this is the solution I came up with.

Something needs to be done about Incendiary Band + Heat Immunity. In my opinion the correct thing to do would be to disable the ignite targets feature if the Vulcan does not overheat. But then that would render the combo useless, which I guess is bad for business. Instead, I propose that instead of igniting targets, IB will inflict all status effects that currently affect the player (afterburn, freezing, AP) on enemies. That way, an Incendiary Band user will not be able to ignite targets if they have Heat Immunity equipped, but will be able to inflict freezing or AP if they are under their effect. If a player wants to ignite enemies, they will have unequip Heat Immunity. If a player has Cold Immunity equipped, they will not be able to freeze enemies. Such a mechanic would also be a decent counter to AP augments or Hornet ODs. Of course Incendiary Band will have to be renamed to something else.

The previous 50% sale was on Tanker's Day in the start of September, which was less than three months ago.

It seems that Shaft's controls in HTML5 have FINALLY been fixed. -

Incendiary Band allows Vulcan to ignite targets, but only when overheating. Heat Immunity cancels overheating entirely. But for some reason, Vulcan with Incendiary Band ignites targets even with Heat Immunity equipped. This ability not only does not make sense, but is also extremely overpowered. Vulcans with Incendiary Band not only get a significant damage boost (which bypasses protection modules), but they also can fire indefinitely. I cannot respect players who abuse this ridiculous combo. -
So I would like to buy a drone, since I have ~2000 batteries saved up and am willing to buy more. I have a few criteria: I would like a general-purpose drone that does well in standard gameplay, and not a drone that is mainly suitable for special events and the like. I would like to run it for as long as I can afford, and not use it intermittently. I do not have enough crystals for MUs, so the drone should perform well without many of them. The drone should preferably not consume supplies, or else have a relatively low cost of operation. I can't afford to run Defender or Booster. I tend to be very conservative with OD usage and so faster OD charge is not very important for me. Thus Driver is off the table. I play Smoky Viking at medium ranges. Camper is off the table. I have been leaning towards towards support / utility drones, and am considering Supplier, Engineer, and Assault. I would appreciate recommendations.

Hopper is a cheat but the literal exploit that is Incendiary Band + Heat Immunity is not. -
He said he bought those ultra containers on his "main account," which I am assuming is not this one.
