I had been thinking that Alterniva had been good to players in 2017 with lots of good sales. I just checked the News archive and confirmed what I thought I remembered. For all of you who just bought lots of new gear and are only a few steps into your Micro Upgrades, hear this. On January 20, 2017 there was a surprise 50/70 MU sale. On Valentine’s Day, there was another 50/70 MU sale. In years prior there were fewer sales between the New Year and the big May sale. I have no inside information, but my advice for folks is to start saving your crystals again and resist the temptation to perform any full price Micro-Upgrades. :D .

If there is time, and I earn enough crystals, I might get Thunder XT. My first priority is completing my M4 garage though. XT feels like one of many ‘abandoned’ ideas from the devs which taken together with Alterations and Hull Overdrives really make this game feel disjointed sometimes.

Lol, botched communication hiding in plain sight for a week and a half... Event and Discount calendars do not agree on the duration of supplies and gifts discounts. Only now can we see for ourselves that Discount calendar is correct, and the Event calendar is the victim or overzealous copy/paste.

You’re absolutely on the mark. Splash damage players just love a good gold box dogpile. I think I got a 5x kill yesterday with thunder and that is by no means a record.

I’ll repeat what I posted earlier about this. The upside of DM is that a lousy team can’t hurt you. And nothing makes for worse team battles than special events like double battle funds, container drops, and 10x golds. In DM you get rewarded exactly what you earn in battle. So, I agree with Alterniva that Holiday events should be DM only. Would have been nice to have some PRO Holoday map options though. They could have made team battles available in PRO too. Of course, all Holiday special events would have to take place in the non-Pro DM format for the reasons I stated above.

10x day is okay. Very difficult for any one tanker to catch a gold or container amidst the 15-20 tank dogpile with the rest of the players launching DD Magnum and Rail Fire into the mix. I only caught four across two battles, then had to spend time IRL. Thankfully they were all gold and no containers. Not interested in slogging it out for a most likely supplies box.

Looking forward to the 10x golds on Holiday map tomorrow, but will have to take care of mission stuff first. I’m also a bit brain-drained from executing my MU sale plan today. It was worth it though. Made the most of the 50% sale and now have 4 turrets just one step away from M4. That last step for each will wait for the next sale. I’m broke.

Anyone else have their missions changed last night? I think one of my pre-Holiday missions, which had been mistakenly changed, got reverted to its pre-Holiday state. It’s a completed mission which I’ve kept unclaimed in case of a day I can’t play, in service of keeping chains going.

What is the purpose of having a Blue team in Assault Mode? Defending the point. Their ability to do so should be the basis of their score. After some consideration, I’ve decided this change is not only counter to the mode’s basic theme, but moreover ineffective in changing battle outcomes. Why? Here’s a hint... Blue team does not care how it’s score is calculated. Blue team only cares about stopping red team from making it to the blue point with the flag. Isida trains, Twins, mines, and heavy hulls with Magnum, Rail, and Thunder protections are the way to go. The only place to make that work is at the point. Trying to turn the Blue team into a TDM format is just not well thought out. Red would just use fast hulls to speed past rushing Blues and attack the undefended point. Changing Assault Mode battle outcomes requires changing map dynamics. The Designers understand that, and the early Red favoring maps have largely been reworked, usually in favor of Blue. Changing the Blue scoring mechanism has had zero effect on outcomes.

Alterniva needs to address it’s quality control problems with Tanki Online. Having nearly every release botched in some way is absolutely unacceptable.

While Viking and maybe Hunter are the most versatile M3/M4 hulls, followed closely by Titan for endurance, Hornet can do well in high rank battles so long as you use that speed to your advantage. Hornet and Freeze is especially effective since your greater speed is magnified by the slowing effect of your weapon on the enemy.

There is also the dirty little secret that Premium lets you do missions way faster. :ph34r:

Assault Mode change sounds strange, but will have to try it out in battles. Lately it seems like Blue team defenders have the advantage in just about any map save for Polygon. All they have to do is camp at the Blue point. This change seems to attempt to address that by forcing Blue team to be more active. The trouble is Nives just compared it to TDM, which might be the kiss of death for this format. No one wants more TDM

My stock Viking is already M4, so the sooner the better. I’ll be MUing the XT version sparingly and probably won’t MU past 10/20. Edit - my other prediction is that XT Skins will be Shop-only. .

This Holiday might be the first time when it makes sense to pay crystals to change a mission. Your mileage may vary. Dear Diary - I bought three Modules today. I think of them as secondary since I already have protection from those turrets. Now I have them in different triple module combinations. That means I should have a decent module for just about any battle I land in :D

Just bought my first XT - Viking. Full price MUs really stink, but hey, it’s a status symbol, so I’ll do it. I’m only at about 3/20 right now, so I have to be careful which battles I equip XT in. Not sure what is going on with the conversion to Skins, but maybe designers are caught in a bind with how to reserve enough tank real estate for -M1, M2, M3 gray armor plating -paint -XT white/gold plating Right now, my M3 armor and XT design doesn’t leave a lot of room for visually complex paints. Also a lot of paints really clash with or obfuscate the XT designs. You’re almost better off wearing a basic paint so that the XT markings are clearly visible. RIP overpriced paints.

The Holiday DM Mode has grown on me. After all, DM is the only mode which compensates you in crystals directly in proportion to your performance on the battlefield. No windfalls for a team victory, but no loss of crystals due to lousy teammates either. For a Holiday, I think this was the right move. Since Halloween was this way too, I think Alterniva has figured out that this is how Holidays will be going forward. I’m okay with that. While the New Year’s map is decidedly underwhelming in terms of look, feel, and features compared to pretty much any of the previous year’s maps, the supply drops on the platform level do make those Supply missions a lot easier to complete. Even the ridiculous ‘collect 30 double armor boxes’ goes pretty quick when you can snag three to five at a time every few minutes.

I hadn’t thought about that. You are better off changing, since it is very likely that mission will be removed at the end of the Holiday. I think you have until January 8, but still not worth the risk. Like the baby with the dirty diaper said to his momma, “change it”

That’s still a good mission. Easier than getting kills. Go for it.

So long as you keep your mission chains going you will get your reward on Friday as you expect. The only temporary change is that since you skipped a day, you did not lose the entire week’s worth of progress.
