Go on guys, send those song parodies! If you're finding it so difficult, why not submit an entry for fun? A nursery rhyme parody, perhaps?

    A Lost Cause

Approved! Wow, another wonderfully written short story. You've written the whole story in dialogue, with minimal description, and yet it makes complete sense. That is commendable, and I really admire the way you wrote this story. Nothing much to say as far as grammar is concerned, but I do have a few tips on writing even better next time. Make use of italics for stressing on certain words in a sentence - you will find that the meaning of the sentence changes significantly. For example, in "I don't want to jump. I have to jump", you could italicize "want" and "have". So it becomes "I don't want to jump. I have to jump." Notice the change (albeit a subtle one) in the meaning. Adding a dash between the two sentences also works well. While writing phrases like "start new", it's always better to write "start anew" instead. Similarly, "start afresh" is better than "start fresh". Well, I really hope you're okay, because you've been acing the "depression genre" for almost a year now. ? Edits: Just the ones I explained above. :)

    A comedy.

Totally up to you! ? You could even write a story, to be honest... let your creativity flow!

    A comedy.

Approved! First of all, extremely sorry for the late approval - life has been busy, and Mr. Procrastination didn't help make matters better. On to your article. Your English is great - good vocabulary and grammar - but there are a few issues as far as the content is concerned. When your English is above par, what you write comes in the spotlight. I'll be honest here - you seem to be writing whatever comes to your mind, without actual planning. You are also making a large number of assumptions throughout the article. This is a major problem, because any reader who does not react to your article in the way you've expected him/her to, will not find this piece enjoyable, simply because your comedy is heavily dependent on those assumptions. What you need to understand here is that you cannot force a reader to think in a certain way (well, technically you can, but the execution is extremely difficult - only the best authors can pull off such a feat). I liked the way you provided some background material so that your jokes would make more sense, and I encourage this in case you intend to narrate comedic incidents (which only you have experienced) in the future, but doing this repeatedly is exhausting. I'd recommend you to actually plan out your article properly. Do not just write what comes to your mind. Let the plot simmer in your mind for a good while, then type out an overall article structure in a Word document (or a GDoc). The draft you type will form the foundation of the final article. Go through your piece over and over again, and make any necessary changes. Well, I wish you all the best for your next article! You're bound to become better with each article - and that is all that matters. Edits:

    [Results] Start the Story!

I received your entry, don't worry. However, since you copy-pasted the story in the Google Form, the overall presentation got destroyed. I still judged on the basis of your overall writing and grammar, ignoring the lack of proper spacing or line breaks. The Google Doc link which you provided did not grant me access to your story. Next time, please remember to allow anyone with the link to at least view the document, if not edit.

The results are out! Find out who won right here! I'd like to add that whenever you share a Google Drive (GDocs) link, please remember to grant at least viewing permission to whoever gets the link. If we are unable to open your story in GDocs simply because we do not have access to the document, we will be forced to disqualify your entry. (Don't worry, we'll try to reach out to you and get access to the document before taking any extreme action)

    Writers' Corner Discussion

@a1653 well the thing is, posting in the AWS after becoming a Reporter doesn't make much sense because no can really "approve" our articles - the article gets posted automatically, skipping the approval queue. Also, we can post articles here but we could spend that time in creating a new and fun contest or writing a snazzy article, so we tend to avoid posting here lol. If you wish to read the Reporters' AWS articles (the ones we wrote before becoming Reporters), then they are available in the "Graduates" section of the AWS Article Archive.

  15. Approved! a1653 has written a nice and neat little humor piece for the AWS readers, and has managed to annihilate three specific Helpers of the game, including me. We therefore ban player a1653 from posting in the AWS for the next thirty-six centuries. A well-written piece, albeit a short one, which does make one chuckle now and then. As far as the overall presentation is concerned, the article could have been formatted better, for reading a text wall without paragraphs and appropriate spacing is difficult. I did not find any major grammar or spelling mistakes, so that's a good thing. Always remember that while writing a humor piece, never assume that the reader will laugh. Humor should flow naturally and not be forced. You began quite well, but the "plot" became slightly repetitive towards the end. I would have loved a bit more for each Helper, as every "picking" episode seemed a bit short and left me longing for more. Great first article, and we warmly welcome you to the AWS! Looking forward to your future works! Edits:

A Thought: Why does this hurt so much?

Let's see this from a different point of view - what is the practical way to deal with such a situation? You see a hateful comment, you feel hurt, and yes, not everyone can filter the hurt out and work on the criticism. What next? Yes, let your feelings out, but you do need to stop at one point. You have to emerge stronger from this episode. Once all your emotions are safely out of the way, your mind will automatically start thinking logically. And in that calm and composed state, you will be able to respond to the comments appropriately. Or not acknowledge them at all. Your discretion will play its part. Also, fighting fire with fire isn't always the right option. If someone posts hateful and toxic comments, you do not need to do so in response - just staying calm and true to your character is more than enough and does the trick, more often than not. And we're here to help. (Psst... eSports players shouldn't be taken seriously... they're there for our entertainment. Especially my entertainment. :x)

Serious Discussion on a Non-Serious Topic

Bruh. This serious discussion is on a non-serious topic. Now, the non-serious topic is the "declining sense of humor and diminishing respect for well-known and archaic trolls". Take it easy! LOL
