    I Quit [Club Penguin]

(topic makes slight whistling noise as it flies over at least a few heads) Then again, I guess it was kinda obvious that some forumers here can't read, not naming any names (cough)LOLKILLERTOTHEDEATH(cough)RECHARGED_RAY(cough)all caps English ftw(cough), or that for others reading doesn't really make any difference to levels of understanding anyway (cough)werty8763(cough) - but this successfully portrays why I don't post on this forum very much anymore. Oh, and nice piece, made me smile ^_^

  6. Basically, he was pointing out you made an unfounded assumption rather than a founded presumption (based on likelihood) about what I meant by that reference. In other words, you assumed I meant something different to the actual apparent meaning of my words, to 'back up' the idea that there's some fundamental differences between our views on the matter in order to continue debating for the sake of it, when really it's clear there are none... Very eloquently phrased on his part, he's hit the nail on the head there as to why our debate was becoming unconstructive.
  7. Thanks for the feedback, guys! Fair enough, would be interested in continuing that discussion with you on Skype yeah - and I was referring to the 'intellectual minority' in more of a relative, general sense than an absolute one, it's not like the remaining majority are un-intellectual, I more meant the tastes of different readers and what they might find enjoyable reads.
  8. Note that I've been part of the newspaper for a long time, I've written articles right across the range of the 'seriousness' or 'intellectual' spectrum from complete joke pieces to detailed and complex analyses. I am not underestimating anything. I'm sure you're one of those readers who'd like being pushed, but this article was aimed at the general readership this time round, and I think it succeeded in connecting with a majority of the readership considering its reception. I also like to write articles that push readers' understanding, and have done so on numerous occasions in the past. This 8000+ word one on the subject of XP battles is probably a good example. I don't actually disagree with you, I just think you're nit-picking about the issue a bit... You can add me on Skype if you'd like to discuss it further, though. Thanks for your feedback!
  9. In the context of writing for a publication, writing suitable content for the target audience is very important. But yes, I see your point - this article was by no means 'forced' out of me just to suit the playerbase, it's very much the sort of light-hearted content I enjoy writing too. In that sense, maybe you misunderstood my response. As a writer, I can write as myself in an intellectual style or in a light-hearted style - and here I am, espousing my most natural words in my light-hearted form. I was wholly writing for and not down to the readers. I was not editing my style at all, I simply write in more than one natural style, very much like how a musician can express herself through more than one instrument. Again, I fear you misunderstood my previous response, I did try to make it clear I enjoy this writing style but maybe I gave off a misleading impression there. And actually, editing and tweaking my writing a touch for the benefit of my audience is something I love doing. Good musicians do it all the time. It's basically heeding feedback, where one takes into account the views of one's audience to perfect one's performance. Yes I agree that you shouldn't completely change your style for the sake of an audience, but that doesn't mean you should be dogmatically unadaptable. I never meant to say or imply that the audience dictated my writing - rather, I wrote how I wanted to write, with my audience in mind... so fundamentally, we agree on this matter.
  10. NOOB how to edit my post... I said make sure you vote BP and Pho -.-
  11. ***POLL ADDED*** Make sure you vote BP and Pho kk.
  12. In writing the article, we weren't looking to be super technical or serious or deep about the matter, we just wanted to converse as we would naturally about the issue (sorry if that's a bit too wacky, hh, we're kinda like that). I understand completely where you're coming from and I personally love a deeply critical, contemplating and powerful debate, but to be honest, I'm sure I would have bored Pho out of her mind eventually if I launched into it with that approach. I agree with you two exactly, I would even personally prefer to read a more intellectual debate myself; however, we're writing for the majority of readers here who Pho would represent in her more light-hearted viewpoint, to make the debate both substantial and easy to read, and I think we managed to achieve that. As far as I'm concerned, I appreciate your feedback but we were able to satisfy the majority of readers and provide them with an enjoyable read. If we were to have taken your approach, most readers would not have enjoyed this article as much, even if myself and yourselves may have found it much more rewarding. Sorry for being populist, but the duty of the newspaper is to write articles suited to our playerbase, and I hope you understand that. Thus, we tried to achieve a 'middle ground', where we did make some thoughtful points for the more critical reader to consider, but also didn't get overly involved in the intellectual side of things and kept it fun. So yeah, in short - don't be afraid to be light-hearted. The reason the newspaper uses humour is because our readers enjoy it. In fact, I keep on getting asked to put out more humour, not less. If you'd like an intellectual article, there are always detailed guides and the like targetted at that, but they inevitably are quite 'niche' articles. I would write intellectual for an intellectual newspaper - this is a gaming newspaper, so I write for the gaming playerbase. I take most joy and pride in being able to write for my audiences, something I personally find a valuable quality for any writer. Hope I've made at least some sense, and thanks for the feedback! (Just thought I'd edit and add this bit for clarity. In short, I'd personally very much enjoy an intellectual debate as you would, but I'm not writing for myself or the intellectual minority here, but for the majority of more light-hearted readers, if that makes sense. Oh, and I do also enjoy being light-hearted too :P)

I'm not denying that it's a good idea, I'm just saying you won't if you haven't done anything except entertain your immature fantasies over 115 pages of this topic. Oh sorry, I should've introduced myself. I'm @GoldRock. Your topic is most definitely pathetic, which is kinda unfortunate.
